lol to Sabonis as a 'All Star'. maybe on the poor (for the bigs) East. He is the king of the empty stats, who doesn't play defense. Kings are laughing stock for 15 yr and counting.

Best defensive rating on the team by anyone with any significant minutes. Net positive on 13th seed playing 35mpg, has insane advanced stats. His box score stats underrepresented him if anything, and u r a lakers fan so u probably don't watch Indiana.

BrianInPhilly wrote:Tyrese Haliburton is a better player than Sabonis Right now. Yeah I said it.

Just tired of seeing the Sabonis love & saying he's all "great" when it's incredibly difficult to build a winning team around a guy with his skillset ... In other words, a big that can't defend the paint, is not quick enough to defend the perimeter, and can't shoot from outside. I'm sorry, that player is not "Great" by any stretch of the imagination. Basketball is not a 1 on 1 game - If it was Sabonis would be a Top 25 player in the league. But it's 5 on 5. Haliburton's combination of shooting, basketball IQ, playmaking, great passing is way more valuable to a team than Sabonis's offensive skillset in 2022. This isn't 2008 anymore - the game is spaced out & speed is more important than ever. Teams don't need to game-plan against Sobonis much - if you've got a guy like Ayton or Jarret Allen as most contenders do, you can go 1 on 1 with him and keep him in check while attacking him on defense. Unlike Jokic & Embiid who require double teams and have the size to defend the paint.

But hey continue posting Sabonis' stats and keep on saying he's an "all-star". That mean literally nothing when you're talking about winning basketball games. I'd love for someone to form a hypothetical starting 5 with Sabonis in it that's a contender. In my opinion you can only do that with practically perfect fits at every other position and him being the 3rd or 4th best player on the team. In my opinion, you can very easily create a team with Haliburton as a Top 2 or 3 guy on it (case in point - add him to the Sixers).
Thaaaaaank you. I am not the only one seeing the obvious.

I am pretty sure the Kings will have a worse record and the pacers a better one after the trade.

Sabonis is one of the most overrated player in the League imo.

I mean, this is YEARS ahead from trading Stauskas, Thompson and landry with a swap and unprotected pick for cap space, only to sign Rondo, Belinelli and Koufos. I just remembered this one and had to laugh a bit here

But again, Sabonis is good and has talent. I think his fit with Fox is... not amazing, he is not Kanter, but Sabonis spacing is not amazing, nor is his defense.

Hali showed glimpses of being a Start someday, but maybe he never will be. But the upside and his traits being so easy to build around makes this exciting if you are a Pacers fan. Shoots 3, can pass, can defend, plays off the ball.

The thing that get's me is, didn't feel like the kings were 1 piece away from making some noise, and this move sounds like that...

Sabonis is easily the best player in the deal, but the fit with Fox is not good at all. Indiana was not gonna trade Sabonis if Haliburton is not in the deal though.

He is terrible pnr defender and cant protect the rim. Also a tweener. ...You are delusional if you think he is better defensively than Turner.

I assume Kings tried like heck to move Fox and just couldn't but how do you go from that to then switching gears and pairing him with a post big who needs the ball?

The only way to win with Fox is to play up tempo. The only way to win with Sabonis is protect him with defense and slower pace. The basketball fit here is off. What makes Sac think they can move off Fox in the offseason if they couldn't now?

Hali/Duarte/Brogdon/Jackson/Turner ..... I actually am kind of interested in seeing that lineup. I know most here won't know Isiah Jackson, but he's looked very good so far. Even shooting the 3. Looking forward to some Hali-Jackson lobs.

Would love Brogdon in NY, what do you think your FO would look for if they decide to move him this offseason?

Would something like Quickley / Grimes / Reddish + our FRP this year (assuming the lotto gods don't smile on us) + whichever of our 2023 FRPs is higher, be in the ballpark?

Ok that was an honest question though did not mean to troll.

I just find it weird that you do not see sabonis as a negative defensive player.

I was pretty nervous ahead of the trade deadline because i was scared the pacers were going to trade players in order to fit his style of play.

I am relieved tbh he got traded.

He's not a terrible pnr defender. I am not saying he's better defensively than Turner. He's not a rim protector sure, but overall he's a decent defender. Doesn't get lost as much as Turner, is not soft like Turner. And on the offensive end, he's a star player.

https://www.theringer.com/nba/2022/1/28/22905555/nikola-jokic-giannis-antetokounmpo-mvp-points-created
He would be even higher on this list if someone in Indiana could make a 3 pointer on his kick outs, but Indiana has 0 players in the top 100 3pt fg%.

Great, now they have no shooting, defense and a clogged paint
