CJ, best of luck to you and thanks as you were a class act. Neil should have traded you long ago because of the bad fit with Dame, but that's not on you

Lets hope the Blazers don't overpay for Grant, I like the flexibility we now have, Do not want that NO pick (possible lotto) traded for Grant. We have that TPE now at about 20 mil, maybe someone wants to get under the tax badly next few days? Lets bargain shop now and see if something good (cheap) might come our way.

Zeller has been waived so Portland can complete this deal.

Re: CJ traded to the Pels!
Can somebody please refresh my memory on the Play-in tournament outcomes on the Draft.
If by the end of the regular season, New Orleans had the 9th worst record in the NBA, however finished in the 7th - 10th play-in bracket of the table, and then proceeded to make the Western Conference playoffs, would they still be in the 9th position for the Draft lottery? I believe the answer is yes.

They wouldn't get a lottery pick if they make the playoffs. Even if they were the 9th or 10th seed going into the playing tourny. Playoff teams don't get lottery picks.

The whole thing is predicated on Lillard being IN 100%, which makes me a bit nervous...but I'll just have to trust.

Great article with his thoughts on CJ leaving.

"For me, my heart is Portland Trail Blazer. I want to win it. I know that I have a plan that’s going to put me on my best level when I come back to play. And I want our team to fit that. I’m a huge fan of Chauncey Billups. I love Chauncey, we’ve got a great relationship and I think he’ll continue to grow into the head coach that he wants to be. And I’m a Joe Cronin fan. In his position I think it takes being bold and doing bold things, doing what you see fit and standing on it. He’s told me that our plan is to build a winning team, not to rebuild. Because we had a prior relationship to him becoming GM, I trust his word.
I’m at peace, I’m doing what I’ve got to do to get myself right and being at home with my family. I’m just waiting patiently to let things unfold and allow him to execute his plan. Once we get there and we see what that looks like and what that is, then I’ll have, I guess, more feelings than I have now but you’ve got to allow him to do his job and see what that finished product is. That’s just where I am."

Hopefully we don't extend Dame this offseason though. That'd be a questionable move imo.
Obviously this puts to rest any rumours of Dame being unhappy. Clearly he was ok with these trades.

I haven't been on this board in a long time. However I am thrilled that trading cj has finally happened! I've been wanting this for man a very long time. I'm just happy we're finally making moves and not just sticking with the status quo. Will gone fully be interesting tonsee what happens next.

it was either going to be Zeller waived and Snell traded or Snell waived and Zeller traded

great interview, thanks for the link
one thing though, I'm not sure labeling what Cronin has done as "bold" is accurate. Trading starting level players for tables scraps, scrubs and too-little draft assets is easy. And in Portland's case, it's a lot more 'too-little-too-late' than bold. Trading CJ 5 years ago when he was MIP would have been bold; trading him 5 years later when it was obvious to the world that is was a long time coming isn't
and no matter what track and motivation you assign to the situation and Cronin, there is still not excuse for the losuy return on that Clippers trade

Re: CJ traded to the Pels!
I'm starting to think that Winslow may make Hart expendable. Would Hart for Bagley and 2 seconds be terrible? What do you all think of Precious Achiuwa? Would you send NAW to TOR to acquire a big, athletic, switchable front court player?
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

I would easily move NAW for Precious, and I am not big on Precious. Just not a NAW guy at all.
As for Winslow making Hart expendable, I dont agree. Hart, Little, Winslow (If playing well + healthy) and even Brown are the types of big, blue collar defensive forwards we have lacked for ages. Keep them all. And Hart at 12M is a good deal.

Re: CJ traded to the Pels!
Using our picks and young players to acquire a legit all-star player to pair Dame with should be the real priority for Blazers right now.
I can't see any reason why we should throw away draft considerations for role players/reclamation projects in the way Olshey did it in previous off-seasons.
This team needs a talent upgrade first and foremost right now. Or, FO must simply trade Dame away if they are unable to pair this dude with the legit sidekick.

I think that guy becomes avaliable in the offseason. Ideally we could do something like:
TPE, 2022 PDX SRP, 2 NO SRP for Grant
NAW for Josh Jackson
Keon for Lyles
Then if we end up with something like pick 5 + 10:
Bledsoe, Hart, picks for Pascal
G - Damian Lillard / MLE
G - Anfernee Simons / MLE
F - Jerami Grant / Nassir Little
F - Pascal Siakiam / Justice Winslow
C - Jusuf Nurkic / BAE

Re: CJ traded to the Pels!
I like this but am not a NAW guy.
Get Ingles in the building and hope we can make some big moves this offseason while retaining him on the BAE. I like him in a 15mpg role if we are trying to win games, assuming he rehabs well.
Joe is the type of guy Dame will love be have on the squad. If we are trying to retool, you cant just bring in guys seen as salary ballast and youngsters. Ingles is a gem in the locker room.

Re: CJ traded to the Pels!
Ingles is down with ACL surgery and he is going to turn 35 by the beginning of this season. He's no factor here from the basketball standpoint.
Although his contract might be if it was insured.
The bottom line, FO simply flipped NAW for a second-round pick and some immediate salary relief. That sucks again. Ughhhh..
