The decision to tear down or not is determined by ownership. Once Bill Davidson died, we effectively had no owner to approve a teardown. And Gores, as an egotistical guy, was not willing to tear down when he got here. He's only willing to now after going for it failed spectacularly.

Weaver has reset the Pistons. How he did it is useless to debate. It's done. It ended with Cade Cunningham, Bey, Stewart, Hayes. Diallo as assets moving forward.

Now begins the process of actually building a team, and this is where his legacy is going to be formed.

As someone else stated, "Anyone can do what Weaver has done"(tearing down a team)well of thats the case, why did it take 3 GM's and 13 years to do?

Point is,

1.)Weaver has put the Pistons in a great spot.

2.)The real work begins now.
It took 13 years because the owner ship wanted to compete obviously. SVG never would have been considered if that wasn't the case he was anti tank more than anyone.

Ingles and his expiring contract to Portland. That signals to me that they're looking to make a splash in the offseason when cap space opens up and not now so likely means that any Grant trade will have to wait until then, as has been speculated already.

Holy cap space, my god. They must have their eye on someone big. I can see them building a nice team. Nice retool.

Still not sure what benefit there is to waiting until the offseason for a Grant trade. Can someone explain that?

We could just do Grant for TPE/pick right now

well somebody needs to actually offer a 1st round pick for Grant, we don't really know what is being offered.

Im not sure what Portland is thinking. A quick retool around Lillard just doesn't seem logical in a competing sense. Don't even know who would willingly sign there for them to compete in his window.

They need to tank a few years now

Draft position. Grant could make them better right now. They are tanking now with Dame shutdown. Which ever pick is better they'll probably keep or use to trade. We'll probably get the lesser. They gotta get the big fish max contract player first too or they'll probably rebuild.

I guess that makes sense…..unless we deal him elsewhere before then.

Its gotta be Beal or Irving. Hmm interesting. Sounds like Harden and Simmons is near done so not sure who else.

Portland has certainly positioned themselves to be major players in free agency now.

Harden, Beal. LaVine, Bridges, Ayton, etc. They'll get to spend a ton of money and have Simons on a small cap hold and then go well over the cap to resign Simons due to his small cap hold.

Very smart way for them to retool the entire lineup, and get to keep their lottery pick this season.

This has to be what they’re thinking.

They jettisoned their expensive undersized guards and are looking to build a more balanced roster.

Portland always failed to attract free agents. They'll end up overpaying for mediocre players like they always do.
