I dont understand how Philly has any leverage here. How can they just magically sign Harden this offseason when they are already projected to be 30m over the cap? They'd need to move Simmons and Tobias for essentially nothing...

- Philly can trade Harris for expirings or to OKC for a TPE before deadline..
- In offseason all they have to do is trade Simmons+Korkmaz into capsapce for picks and they have enough cap space of their own to sign Harden outright. At that point they have Nets over a barrel where they lose Harden for nothing and Philly end up with Harden, a big TPE and a load of picks.
The only way Nets can get good value for Harden is if they trade him before deadline. It's a choice between competing this season with Harden and then having little chance to compete in future versus trading Harden now for assets that allow nets to compete in future but they've made a rival stronger.

Either way Philly end up with Harden, a big TPE and a load of picks.
I mean you gotta know that involves several unprotected picks to move Harris to OKC

How much would it take for you to eat Westbrook?

To what extent they have leverage begins and mostly, but not completely, ends with what Harden wants.
If, as some reports suggest, he really wants Harden then as always he's likely to end up there.
The other bit of leverage though I hate that term is that Simmons is still locked up 3 years after this one and he's not going to sit out 4 years.
Now I am not saying Philly has a leverage edge here. I refuse to twist narratives to my side and claim leverage. That's pointless. I don't know and don't claim to. But I do know if Harden wants Philly, they are likely to get him one way or the other.

Yeah it would take at least two FRPs or maybe Springer, Reed instead of an FRP.
But they can then trade Simmons+Furkan for 4 FRPs and swaps.. Plus they will be better picks than what Philly give up to move Harris.
Philly also don't have to be the one giving up the FRPs. Harris could go to Lakers and Lakers give an FRP with Russ to OKC. So Philly give up one FRP or just Springer+Reed.

If OKC is sending nothing out? The LAL 27 1st and another pick they pull out of their assets

read my mind
OKC get Westbrook+LAL27FRP+PHI22FRP
LAL get Harris+Favors
PHI get TPE

That's where I'm coming from. Get the Lakers to pay a big chunk of the costs for moving off Harris. Simmons you can trade for a pure pick package and then sign Harden. Only issue that we wouldn't really have much moveable salary to turn those picks into players who could help now.

OKC get Westbrook+LAL27FRP+PHI22FRP
LAL get Harris+Favors
PHI get TPE
If the plan is to create cap space for Harden, this is the most obvious and sensible first move.

Agreed. I think Morey has presented the threat of this one trade alone to Marks and that's what's triggered the motive for Nets to want to move Harden now.

I think LA should probably kick in more, but absent that I’m going to Philly for more. Like the 2026 1st is top 6 then 2 2nds, and send that 2028 1st. You can have Kenrich too. I just really hate the optics of OKC buying out Russ and we’re locked in a race for a good pick so he can’t raise the floor if we play him. At the end of the day Philly shouldn’t do that and should instead look to improve the package to BKN now.

No way OKC should do this. That's 68 millions for 2 FRPs, put us over the tax next season and we can't do it wrong with Westbrook and not play him.

It's $52m if you count Favors leaving.. You took on more with Kemba.

Anybody else see Marc Spears tweeting the eyes and rockets emoji as a quote tweet to this news then immediately deleted? Lolzimpy27 wrote:Westbrook is not playing tonight....

Haha I did not.. Wall for Westbrook swap is the simplest move.
Rockets either know Westbrook is easier to buyout or they are getting a asset to help.

I don't think it's actually happening, I think the tweet was supposed to be speculation then he deleted it once he realized that's not how people would take it tbhzimpy27 wrote:K_chile22 wrote:Anybody else see Marc Spears tweeting the eyes and rockets emoji as a quote tweet to this news then immediately deleted? Wow, Westbrook being bought out is so interesting. Who even signs him?
