Love this trade. We get a young player with upside in NAW whom I liked since he was drafted, got some more depth with Hernangomez, and also saved about $11M, all for an injured player (who happens to be my favorite Jazz player) who won't be able to play this season and who was on an expiring contract. What's not to like? Great job by Ainge and Zanik, I hope DL is taking notes somewhere about how to use your assets before they expire.

As for worrying that Snyder won't play NAW, I somehow don't think we have to worry about it beyond this season, as I think Snyder's time with the Jazz is....how should I say it... closer to its ending than it is to its beginning.

Well he's been here 8 years so him leaving before year 16 does seem plausible

I'm just trying to be diplomatic and nice. I think if we get ousted in the first or second round again, he's very likely to be fired. We have a new ownership + Ainge and neither of them hired him, so they are likely to want to put in their own coach.

NAW can play in pick-and-roll, he could be a long-term fit next to Mitchell, his measurables are virtually the same as Dante Exum's, and we got him for Joe Ingles' Bird rights. I approve.

The more I look at NAW the more I like. The Jazz really weren't in a good trade position after Ingles' injury and I think NAW was a non-risky gamble. He actually looks like a smoother Clarkson at the same age. I guarantee he won't spend much time on the floor (for better or worse) if he doesn't buy-in to the Jazz need for defense - but hopefully the Jazz development culture plus good player mentors will light a fire on that. No doubt this guys is a natural scorer. I'm intrigued.

We can use them. IIRC, we got Al Jefferson by using a TPE.

Ok, Here's a "Hmmm..." thought.

Ingles has said several times that he expected to be traded after the injury, he was hopeful they would trade him for a player that would be a positive for the team. Not sure NAW is all that, but given his raw talents as a first round pick, it's possible he could be a net positive by seasons end. Ingles said he understood the business, but was still a bit emotional when it actually happened. He then indicated that he was committed to returning "Better than ever" and would be staying in Utah to rehab, to allow his kids to stay in their schools and not uproot his family. Although he is now officially a member of the Blazers, are there rules that don't allow players to use other teams facilities for rehab etc.? While it's no big news to state Ingles has lost a step this year, what he brought to the team, that maybe is more important is his leadership, his ability to be a mediator, and a glue guy in the locker room.

Let's just say he is allowed to use the Jazz rehab facilities since he is living in SLC. I believe he, and the Jazz, have a mutual loyalty and he has personal relationships with the main players, that he, as their friend, would continue to cultivate. Maybe the team still can keep that aspect of having Ingles around as he rehabs. He continues to lead and mentor through "Casual contact and/or interaction" while rehabbing even though he is technically not a member of the team. Then, after his contract expires and he heals, he returns as either a bench playing vet, or some sort of assistant coach, all while never really leaving...

Probably dreaming, but best of two worlds: With the injury and Joe not Abel to contribute at all for the duration of this season, we get a payer who will not have a significant drop-off in game contributions, and we still maintain the other important intangibles that makes Ingles very valuable.

The Jazz need a guard who can both defend well enough not to be a loophole on defense and shoot well enough not to be a loophole on offense. I think NAW fits that role. The problem is that Clarkson can't guard, so teams can attack through him on offense. The other problem is that Forrest can't shoot, so teams won't bother to guard him on the perimeter. NAW is the guy who can fill those gaps.

His shooting numbers are down this year, but I attribute part of that to the Pels being a complete mess this year, with very limited talent and very little structure. Basically, they're a mismash of Ingram, Valanciunas, Herb Jones, Devonte Graham and guards like NAW, Hart and Kira Lewis. They started the year losing 16 of their first 20 games. NAW will be better with the Jazz's spacing and ball movement. He'll be able to get to the rim, create in pick-and-roll, and make enough open shots. He's a good pickup.

No, not unless you guarantee the next year. CBA was changed so that when you trade them after the trade deadline in the interim period they count as whatever their next year guarantee is.

I think the Jazz fleeced the Blazers for NAW. I'm honestly confused why they'd give him to us for Hughes and Ingles' expiring deal.

What I'm not sure is if you could buy out Jugancho.
I don't know if you want to bring someone else before March the 1st so need as free spot at the roster.

If you keep it, he might make himself useful.
