Totally disagree. We have Bird rights and he's playing well. Only reason to deal him is if we think someone will give him a 3rd year. 20M/2 years is fine. We're better with him on the court, stats are pretty clear.

I don't see why someone wouldn't give him a 3rd year. I'm fairly certain that's a forgone conclusion at this point.

As far as being better with him on the court, I agree but as I often say - we need to have our eyes on the future. If Boucher can bring back a reasonably valuable piece for the future, I expect Masai to pull the trigger.

I dunno, it's possible his play this year has changed things, but we were probably selling last year and it doesn't seem like there was no decent offer for Boucher out there.

He'll be 32 in his final season if he gets a 3 year deal. Hopefully that scares teams off.

The last year is a team option, so it fits perfectly for when the Raptors need financial flexibility. And it's not too big a contract to fit under the tax next season either.

The other deal I was looking at was Dragic to Orlando for Ross and Lopez, but Rose is probably the better fit due to his ballhandling ability.

It's potentially going to be a Dragic situation all over again. I wouldn't risk it with Glass (I mean Rose). Ross I don't mind. He's exactly what this team needs off the bench and Lopez is a 7 footer that can defend somewhat.

Those are two terrible, terrible players. I'd rather Cory and Kelly.

Rose is not terrible. Cory + Kelly would cost additional assets, this is a deal we could do for nothing but Dragic's expiring.

Learn from the Leafs. Learn what trading kids and picks gets you: Expensive torn ACLs. No thanks!
Acknowledge this fact: We must pay a massive Milwaukee (Clevland? Memphis? New Orleans? What is the biggest dump town in the NBA, least desirable spot- could it be Toronto?) tax to get free agents, and even then, they are lousy and no good, and now, gravely overpaid.
We can get star players by:
1, drafting them;
2, trading for them; or
3, Getting those stupid Europeans with their stupid fundamentals and all that stuff Don Cherry hates about talent- Toronto is just as far from the wine, women, and song Medeterianin lifestyle as the next major city in North America,

Once they are here we have a chance to re-sign them! KNOW SOMETHING AND GET BIRTD RIGHTS_ so we can sign them to a max deal etc.
So, we must only get a star player with years left, not a rental!

bad knees and now bad ankle. No thanks to Rose, he's a ticking time bomb ready to have a career ending injury with the way we play defense. I wouldn't want to witness it happening to him as a Raptor.

If we somehow end up as a top 2 team by mid March, could we sign Marc Gasol for the rest of the season and playoffs? Just need him against the sixers and bucks.

Nurkic looks pretty damn good covering AD and managing to score despite the Blazers playing non-shooters in Smith Jr and Winslow and a meh one in Elleby with him.

He's in a relegation battle with the team he owns and their team and is by far their best player. Season ends May 30th. So he'd miss 8 games if he signed the last day possible and came over for the play-ins, which I don't imagine they'll have clinched safety by then. Not sure he'll come over, but yeah he'd be nice to have for 10-15 minutes in those series, maybe against Vucevic too.

He's pretty unrefined too with his decision making, so I think he's still got a lot of potential.

ciueli wrote:If New York is looking to shed salary Raptors should consider Dragic for Derrick Rose and Taj Gibson. It wouldn't free up a ton of cap space for the Knicks (depends on where their draft pick lands) but it would likely give them more in cap space than the MLE and save them a lot of money next season.

For the Raptors, this fills a desperate need for a backup guard who can handle the ball and shoot 3s, Rose is actually having a pretty nice season in spite of the Knicks lacklustre performance. Gibson is washed up at 36 but he's actually still a decent defender at C in spot minutes and his contract is non-guaranteed next season.

I had the same idea. Rose only has one year at $14.5M after this season so hardly a big financial commitment or hardship. He is exactly the type scorer we could use off the bench; the fact he has PG skills would be very valuable since he could create for himself and others. Defensively I think he would be fine in our system since he still has pretty good lateral quickness for his age. That being said, the ankle surgery puts all of this into question. I would think that the Knicks would have to give us at least one second round pick with that uncertainty and the cap space they clear with Dragic.

Taj is a smart player who can give us a few minutes and fouls defending opposing centres. He is a solid vet that wouldn’t cause problems joining the team and his contract expires at the end of the season.

If Rose, Taj, and a 2nd is the best offer on the table for Dragic I would easily take it. Worse case we have to move Rose next year. Best case we have a backup PG who can score so Fred and our starters aren’t run into the ground.

Rose and Gibson are both Thibs guys.
I would be surprised if they are moved ahead of guys like Burks or Noel.

What does this have to do with the situation at hand though?

The Raps aren't trading any of their core pieces and they arent looking to trade for a star. The goal is just to trade Dragic's expiring contract for a serviceable player or two to help reduce the load on the starting 5.

Nurkic is a guy that I would have no qualms about giving up a 1st round pick for.

The Raps future might be small ball but they'll need a situational big for certain matchups. Nurkic is still relatively young, great size and wingspan, great on pick and roll, high IQ, good D, good passer....kind of like Gasol. He's a free agent after this season but I dont think his contract demands are going to be exorbitant. I have no idea what the Blazers plans are though.

Young bigs have gone for far less in free agency over the last few years than I would have imagined.
Even some of the extensions for some of the older guys have been pretty meh.

I would think Nurkic doesn't see north of 14m? Or am I just an idiot?

Honestly I think nurkic/Holmes are gonna be available for 1/2 2nds because Holmes barely played last night and Portland has gave everyone else away for cap space so I don’t see them holding onto nurkic just to pay him in the summer

Dallas would require a lot more than Goran Dragic and picks for Porzingis.

They would also require Masai to be certifiably insane.
