Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
In my standard where scoring and shooting is the most important skills for a guard, Maxey is in general better than Ben Simmons. In the regular season and specially in the playoffs.
And im not even that high on Maxey.
Im not saying Ben is a bad player, both players are really good players but again I have scoring and shooting as most important skills for a guard.
But context matters (this is why I say “in general”), for instance if you are the Brooklyn Nets with Kyrie, KD and maybe even Harden, I would value Ben Simmons more than Maxey where you’re sacrificing high points per shot on 3s if Maxey turns to be a spot up shooter that takes shots away from Joe Harris or you’re sacrificing points per possession on PnR if you sacrifice PnR possessions of Kyrie or KD to Maxey. While Ben may provide you more possessions with his deflections, more opportunistic baskets with his transition game and may take advantage of the gravity of Nets star players kind of how Wiggins took advantage of the Warriors system and shooters.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
I am King Maxey stan but yeah naw. Not yet at least.
The best thing Maxey has going for him is that he is young, cheap and seems to love basketball. The team is also bereft of people who can dribble the ball. If say Springer was further ahead and Glenn knew who he was, Maxey loses some luster and his flaws stand out more. But as is the team can't afford to trade for Harden, Beal or Dame...guys who are aging, injured, or flight risks at the expense of Maxey IMO but that is more due to the lack of other creators and guards on the roster.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
Hes a good young player and was a great pickup late in the 1st round.
But games like yesterday shows that's hes still a few years away from being a 2 or even 3rd scoring option on a championship team, and that would be the best case scenario.

We don’t need him to be 2nd or 3rd option.
We need Harden and Maxey to learn from him. In this case, Maxey can be real good in 2-4 years.

Thats' exactly what im saying, we are lacking an elite perimeter scorer.
Maxey wont be ready to carry that load for another season or two at least, if he ever is.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
Maxey won’t ever be a primary scoring option on a good team. But I think he will eventually provide an efficient source of 18-20 points with floor spacing and end of shot clock ability along with low turnover rate. That’s pretty valuable.
Size, lack of defense and low FTr keep him out of star class.

What do you mean "eventually" - like next month? He's basically there already.
Really surprised how many fans think he's peaked at age 21.
To me it's obvious he's going to be a 22+ ppg scorer on good efficiency very soon. 3-level scorer. Perhaps by next season.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
I just went through some game logs because I was curious about his with and without Embiid splits and he scores 23.3 PPG in 12 games without Embiid and 14.6 in 35 games with him. That's a huge gap. I think there a lot of big numbers on a bad team effect with Maxey, right now. I need to see him really elevate his game sharing the floor with Embiid before I'd make the claim he can be an efficient scorer on a good team. And as long as he's a Sixer he needs to figure out a way to do it playing with Embiid.

In the NBA, nearly everyone can score. In the NBA, even the bad teams score 100, and someone has to make up those points. The 76ers are a bad team when Embiid is not playing. It shouldn't be a surprise that on a bad team, the guy with the ball in his hands the most (who isn't a PG) scores 20+ points per game.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

All throughout this season when Maxey has hit a clutch shot in the 4th or gone to the free throw line in the 4th I have wondered what would BS have done in that situation.....could you have even played BS in that situation ? It's nice to have a guard that is not afraid to shoot a FT or take a big shot when it counts. Maxey is only getting better.
But with that being said BS is the better overall talented player. But he can't be counted on.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Tyrese is a better offensive player than Ben and I'm not sure it's even close. But Ben is a far better defender.

Tyrese will get a lot of corner 3s now with Harden. Hope he can up his volume.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
Maxey showed signs last night of going further into a shell as a function of Harden's arrival. Now he's not only yielding to Embiid and others as opposed to putting pressure on the opposing defense and trying to create his own shot, but he's responding to Harden's arrival and becoming even more invisible. Maxey needs to start having the self-image of a player if this team is going to succeed.

It was an awful night for everyone. He's f***king 21 years old. Chill.

Maxey's level of development has nothing to do with what this team needs to be successful. Maxey needs to be a threat with the ball in his hands for this team to be competitive with the best teams in the league. If that's a ways off because of his development, well then so will their competitiveness with the best teams in the league be a ways off.
