At this point, I would be a little surprised at a straight Donte/Schroder swap (plus whatever salary filler we need to include of course). I think Horst was trying to use that framework as a means to get Grant Williams in the deal which the Celtics aren't dumb enough to do.

Think I’d rather hold onto Donte than trade him straight up for KCP or Dennis, unless we are getting something else in return.

Not really even a big Donte guy and I too would rather just hold onto him if we're just getting KCP or Dennis.

We could have gotten Schroder for free in the offseason with the MLE so yeah, trading our only young player asset for him would be annoying. No thanks.

Agreed. I like KCP, but I thought he was a better shooter than he actually is. Donte still does some nice things defensively, is a pretty good passer, provides energy, and still has upside if he can stay healthy. A straight-up trade for either guy doesn't make much sense. Plus, whether it matters or not, I get the sense that Donte is very well-liked by his teammates (seems to be a theme with this team).

G.Hill & Semi.O for R.Gay

Jazz gain a fairly sold vet backup PG on a reasonable short-term contract. And a guy who may need new scenery to find any confidence. If they don’t believe in him he’s an easy buyout; plus, I think the Jazz will be targeting an upgrade at PF/C. It also frees the Jazz from dealing with Gay’s contract going forward. Anyways, I think the Jazz might be looking to upgrade their backup PG & C/PF positions.

Milwaukee losses PG depth, but gains depth in the swing-man position that has the size to defend up in the front court. Give Donte more run at backup PG and look to scoop-up another guard vet (Satoransky? Bledsoe? Etc.) that’s able to handle the ball — sure to be some buyouts. And resign L.Kornet to the 10-day over G.Monroe.

I actually think KCP is a better player than Donte, but he's also making like 10m more. His contract is medium at best imo. Feel like we can do better for Donte in terms of value. Obviously value goes out of the way if it means winning a championship or not.

Josh Hart should be the target today.

Bulls get: Donte
Bucks get Josh Hart, 2nd from Bulls
Pelicans get: Jordan Nwora
Blazers get: Troy Brown, Rodney Hood, Semi Ojeleye, 2nd from NO, 2nd from Bulls

Hart gives us a rebounder and playmaker as an undersized defensive combo forward.

Would the Bucks gain Hart’s bird rights?

Just wait until SAS buys out Tomas Santoransky. He can be a useful combo guard and we won’t have to trade an asset.

DDV Nwora and a 2nd for Derrick White and Thad Young?

Unfortunately the money on that doesn't even work for one of those guys much less both.

White and Young almost make $30M combined, so that isn’t happening.

Alright, I'm sold on the OKC trade:

Problem is, how much value do you add? Is the 2025 Indy 2nd-rounder enough?

I don't think it'd be dumb, frankly. If Donte gets his feet back under him, he's easily twice the player Williams is. Just a calculated risk. I get that they don't want to do it but I don't see why it should be exciting to us.

I'm not sure. He's in the 1st year of a 3 year deal. So if traded to Mil he would spend 2.5 seasons with us, theoretically. Idk if that partial year counts as one year. What's also unclear to me is whether a player has to be one one team for 3 seasons or one contract for three seasons. After all, it's not his choice to be traded. To me, if a player has a three year contract and gets traded at any point, the team that has him at the end of those three seasons should have his bird rights. However, at the very least, we would for sure have his early bird rights as he would have two full seasons in Mil just as Bobby will have going into next offseason.

Player option on 3rd. Likely to walk for a bigger contract if playing really well. So, is 1.5 years enough to ensure even early bird rights for Bucks?
