They're trying to compete and have full bird rights on Brunson. They're not limited in what they can offer him in FA. They were limited on the extension.

THJ trade has nothing to do with re-signing Brunson.

The way Brunson contract is constructed...they can't stop him from going anywhere. They have no RFA rights over him.

Their issue isn't him in isolation. It's the tax when they already have KP, THJ, and Luka on big deals.

Why would the Pacers be interested in Hardaway? The guy has 3 more years remaining on his contract and was having a terrible season anyways. On top they have Haliburton, Duarte, Hield and Brogdon---none of which is suited to play the 3 really. Kind of baffling.

You'd think that if this rumor is true you could talk them into considering Fournier who is better across the board and has a shorter deal on the same money. But what would they be giving up?

I think Cam has a ton of potential

But he's still very raw in year 3, which means we'd really only have next year to evaluate him before deciding on retaining him, and some team can bid up the price on him

Which is to say, I'm not in favor of trading him just to trade him or to get out of bad deals, but I'm not against it so long as we get value back

I mostly just think it'd be hilarious if we traded a 1st for him, then turned around and traded him for a 1st, especially after all the threads we made about him.
