Nothing in my soul tells me they are trading Joe. They didn’t want to trade him for James Harden. They certainly not trading him with Ben on the roster. I know your beliefs on spacing but no.

Cam, Nic, Brown, Carter are the pieces that are likely to paired to get someone and hopefully it’s a god damn 3&D wing. Patty, Curry, Joe, Kessler, LMA is great that’s a huge plus. A wing now allows for Ben to Draymond the backend while that person that’s on the backcourt threat.

So I assume you hate this deal?

No not really.
I wanted Simmons.
I wanted Drummond on the buyout.
I think they are quality players who both would’ve worked wonders when we had the 3. They always provided what the core 3 was missing. Defense. Size/length. Rebounding.
No I think this could work. I don’t think we are naturally as gifted offensively. I don’t think anyone here appreciates the threat Harden was and how well he ran our offense. Without him we HAVE to be better defensively. Possible tho. Now I’m waiting for the Klay clone to be brought in. Dillon Brooks immediately comes to mind considering the assets we would trade. Currently injured but the fit works.
The heights we can reach have been lowered and I feel moves to improve the team could’ve been made but certain non stars were prioritized but it’s not the worst trade.

On what planet is dillon brooks a klay thompson clone.

Klay is one of the greatest shooters ever... Dillon brooks is shooting worse then Jevon Carter (this year and career).

Also, Woj says Nets ain't done, I smell a Joe Harris/Clax/Pics trade coming very soon for a J.Grant type of player. Nets will be formidable.

Did harden decline or did he actually stop trying? I watched the kings game and he look like he quit. He needs to lose weight for sure.

He's not in the best shape and his game has declined in terms of his shooting and finishing at the rim. He also played really slow and turned the ball over like crazy.

I'd honestly be a little unnerved by this trade if I was a Sixers fan.

Harden clearly isn't the iron man he once was, and with his average NBA athleticism, aging out of his prime, and new rules about fouling, IMO it would take a miracle for him not to keep declining from here on out, possibly piling up more injuries too.

I don't doubt he'll look real good for stretches with shooting and defense around him, but the Sixers may be eating a huge salary for little result not so long from now. *phew*

Stop defending harden. From the start of the season he has not been here mentally or physically. He has played like garbage. I’ve said it all season. And now we know why. So it wasn’t the dream team he thought it would be. He’s in win for me mode. I wonder if this would be the case if Durant weren’t injured and they didn’t take this 9 game slide

Now we have some future. Try to imagine these months if the trade hasn’t been made. And we sucked this season much before all the Kyrie stuff and the injuries. Now we can look ahead and try to build something. Good luck with the 37 yr old Harden max extension.

Sharcm1 wrote:So the nets basically traded 7 first round picks, levert and Allen for Simmons and Seth curry. Yeah that makes sense. Never should have done that harden trade last year. I didn’t like it from the get go. Now we trade him to an eastern conference rival so they can go win a chip. Simmons better come in and be the player they all hype him to be. This was a huge fail

to the bold, while I understand the principle of the comment, it's Simmons, Curry plus two firsts(i guess Drummond too). So if you want cancel out the first, then its 5 firsts plus Levert and Allen for Simmons and Curry... which still doesn't make it that much better LOL

From a philly perspective they got one of the premiere offensive initiators of all time for a guy who (limitations aside) was never going to play for them again, a couple first Rd picks that may or may not be worth much and Seth Curry.

Seth will help as long as he's hitting shots. Got to keep hitting shots because he doesn't bring much else.

Drummond is a decent get but would've been better paired with Harden.

But Simmons is obviously what is going to make this trade a hit or miss.
Hopefully he's been working on his game because of he still can't shoot threes it simply limits the offense. Because that means he is going to struggle playing with bigs that aren't great beyond the arc or any other player that can't hit threes.

Regarding Harden, it sucks for Next fans. He didn't really owe KD or especially Kyrie anything though. KD had opportunities to join him in Houston to help him win a ring and he didn't. Instead he went to a rival and played a part in keeping him from getting rings. Harden probably hasn't totally forgotten about that.

Anyways...only time will tell how it all works out.

I think if the nets surround Simmons with shooters it could be great.

On the planet that he shoots 3’s and play defense. Obviously how many god damn screen runners do you think is in the league? He obviously doesn’t have that play style. I’m clearly god damn clearly just talking about having a 3&D player in the backcourt next to Kyrie. What is wrong with you?

Wow. The trade went down eventually. Knew it was coming. That locker room issue was indeed there.

Anyways, this trade just made both teams better. 76ers basically swapped Curry for Harden in that lineup given Simmons hasnot played all season at all.Phew..

Nets on the other hand did well too. A more balanced team if Kyrie plays.

I expect both teams to add more pieces via buyouts and trade.

If anything, Bucks may not be comfortable right now.

Simmons was never going to play for the Sixers again, so giving them Harden strengthens a division rival tremendously. They'll have elite offense in Harden and Embiid and their team defense should be great with Embiid and Thybulle. We all know that Harden is a good post defender as well.

This is a head scratcher for me.

Harden (per Woj) clearly preferred a trade. It was going to happen at some point. Accommodating stars/players is good business and how we got to a place were stars want to come here. There are some fringe benefits as well:

1) Short term, we can win some games, maybe crawl out of the play-in. Harden wasnt going to play and is hurt anyhow
2) We are much more likely to financially keep the team together. What Simmons is owed 40% less then what harden would have gotten
3) While id rather play it out and settle for less, we would always get a better return now then the offseason... i dont buy there was a real risk we lose him for nothing, but it would have been closer to just simmons.

I didn't have an issue in principle with trading Harden and I don't disagree with any of your points (especially #2 considering that Harden hasn't played anywhere close to a $50mil/season player and he's only getting older.)

My issues are:

1) Harden is worth more, especially when considering that Simmons was never going to play for the Sixers again;
2) we strengthened a neighboring (at least for fans in NJ) division rival by giving them a superstar talent.

I think there was a greater chance of the mandate getting lifted and Kyrie playing home games in the postseason than Simmons playing for the Sixers again. Therefore, if we got healthy, we'd still be unbelievably talented and favorites to win it all, while Philly remains a pretty good team but not great enough to win a title this season without Simmons. With Harden, I'd definitely put the Sixers as a firm contender this season and going forward. A 2-man game between Embiid and (healthy) Harden is elite and they'll still have elite wing defense with Thybulle and paint protection with Embiid.

IMO, if you're going to make this trade with a division rival, you need to get tremendous value and I don't think Marks got that.

I'm not part of this discussion but wanted to share.

I too have the similar concerns as you do Nyce, especially seeing that niether Maxey or Thybulle came over. We got firsts in return for one of them so Idk where to balance that out but I'll eat it. Be nice to throw Fork in there but oh well!

We definitely gave Philly much needed firepower as they remained largely intact.

We landed a superstar talent(like him or hate him) with a flaw in shooting at such a young age under contract for the now and future years to come. He also, by the attributes should gel in quite well to the high usage players such as KD and Ky(assuming he plays).

Now 30 mins left so we'll see if we're truly done in trade market. Maybe an additional piece can help?

Yeah, that's another reason why I am not broken up by it. Harden seems to be declining and is having a hard time with his conditioning.

All in all not the worst thing in the world, the Harden I've been seeing this season didn't give me full confidence he'd live up to a $200m contract for years to come, and I certainly won't miss his defense. But given this is Harden, I'd guess he'd come out for Philly playing like MVP Harden.

This whole timeline has been weird. No one can talk about "unrealistic 2K trades" anymore, since they're actually happening in real life.

We didn't really have a choice with Green. We couldn't offer him the multi-year deal he wanted.

If Harden returns to MVP form, I'll laugh and cry.
