My expectation is that Minnesota offers Nathan Knight a deal to lock him up long-term and obtain RFA rights in a couple seasons.

Pretty sure if we sign anyone we enter the luxury tax.. There's no way in hell we trigger that tax just so we can pick up Enes Freedom as a third Center

aren't the Wolves a tiny bit into the lux? Seems like they could have done something to get under.

Hopefully they waive EKF and we sign him. Dude might be nuts, but he is better than Knight.

I don't think we have the flexibility to do much of anything and is EKF even 2W eligible?

I am saying as a vet minimum using our 15 roster spot. Otherwise we need to upgrade Knight to make him playoff eligible.

It would cause us to go into the LUX. NOT HAPPENING.

Too scared to try to impresses his new bosses. Cya, trade machine guy.

I am incredibly thankful that Sachin Gupta didn't ham-fist a trade to "impress" the new owners.

Exactly.

Gupta has his dream job now, but it has that “interim” tag attached. ARod and Lore have been stressing how important it is to get the very best people at their jobs. No matter how well this team does, it was entirely constructed by Rosas. I was also very concerned Gupta would try to make a big deal to get his signature on a good playoffs, even if it handicapped the team in the future.

We are the second youngest team, and we are developing so well right under Finch with great chemistry. Every fan sees areas where his team could get better, but I’m happy with this inactive deadline.

When Rosas (and his lieutenant Gupta) came in all the talk was about how they were big time wheelers and dealers and there would be constant roster churn. Since the 2019-20 trade deadline I have to imagine that the Wolves have had the least amount of roster turnover in the NBA. While I think keeping continuity is a good thing, being unable to address glaringly obvious holes in the roster construction over multiple years is concerning.

Three trades of significance done today.
Harden for Simmons and change
White for a FRP and a swap
Porizingis for a salary dump.

How much room do we have under the tax? Reid is on one leg and sooner or later will miss time to heal. For now we have Knight, but come playoff time we must convert or he is unavailable. How much would EKF cost on a minimum?

IIRC we can sign someone and remain below the lux but it will depend on the timing. Something like the lux is actually based on salary paid, so someone signed with less games remaining won't contribute as much to the lux.

I think it came up when everyone wanted to convert McLaughlin originally.

Disappointing that we couldn't do something with Layman. Create a little cap room or find a C. Time to scour the buyout market. Any interest in Enes or Moses Brown?

Have some thoughts on this chemistry stuff....

I have a hunch about Prince, and I think it is pretty dumb of our FO if this true, but I think that Prince and D'Lo are super tight and since Kat's happiness is dependent on D'Lo, making D'Lo happy is a priority and so Prince is a priority (there's a math equation in here somewhere).

It just so happens that Prince provides a lot of what the Wolves value from their 3/4 positions, mostly length, and so it's easier for the Wolves to stomach his salary hit this year, with the assumption that they can resign Prince at a reasonable, team-friendly deal (like a little better than V8's contract) this offseason..

If it works out that way then I won't complain, but his cap hold this year was a real trade asset. We could have easily dumped him somewhere like Houston for a future 2nd and then used our 1st or Washington's second this year to go after someone that's Derrick White level...

When the media talks about not wanting to mess with the chemistry, I think that has to be part of it. I think Beasely's liked in the locker room, but I can't imagine anyone on the team would blame the FO for trading him for a solid player in return.. That type of trade doesn't damage a locker room as much, but I imagine it was hard for Gupta to get the value he wanted in return for Beasely.

After that, Josh Okogie is the only player that's not in the rotation that has an important presence in the locker room, him being the longest tenured Timberwolf and all. It might have been tough for the FO to justify shipping Josh to a tanking team where he will get little to no playing time and miss out on a fun playoff run with the team that drafted him..

Spotrac has us at $872,920 under the luxury threshold.

The future belongs to the bold.

Not to an organization that is congratulating themselves on having good chemistry.
