He's not a particularly good defender and he can't shoot. Not to mention we already have a few guys like this on the team and what we really needed was a guard or a C.

Seeing as how the Celtics got Derrick White, this trade hurts even more.

Why is everyone ignoring they traded Richardson (who was putting up 14/4/2 per36 on 57 TS%), Langford (#14 pick on 2019; played in 44 of Boston's 56 games averaging 5 PPG on 52 TS% in 17 MPG) and their 1st pick this season for a nearly 28-year-old White (who was putting up 17/4/7 per36 on 55 TS%) that is injury prone and making 18M/year until 2024/25?

Boston paid a steep price for White. They essentially made a small improvement over Richardson while giving up a 22-year-old former lottery pick and a 1st this season that could also end up in the lottery or late teens.

Not a big fan of the pick swap, but Thad Young is good. Don't particularily like his age or contract situation, but if he returns next year on a vet min or something, I'd consider that a win for us and worth the pick price. Having him off the bench for 1.5 years is probably worth that 10-15 pick drop. I would've figured we could've got this deal done for Dragic and a straight up 2nd, but maybe the Raptors preferred a swap instead? It helps with some salary cap too moving forward, as the 2nd rounder is a lot less $$ than a guaranteed 1st.

Yeah I agree. I’m not sure he’s going to come back on a vet min, but we do have the MLE and the raps might actually get some flexibility with the 2nd, which is effectively a late 1st. Also, I’m replying to this to say that I stand corrected on what Ben ended up fetching. It’s a good spot for him in Brooklyn because both Kyrie and KD scan shoot, and they have Joe Harris and Seth Curry who can space the floor too.

hurts why, they gave up 1.5 rotation player (richardson + langford) and a top4 protected pick this year and a 2028 swap for white.

Yes as they got a much better PG/lead guard about to enter his prime on a reasonable deal. They needed addressed a need that the desperately require and a guy who is currently averaging a career high 5.6ast who is a huge defensive presence as well.

They actually filled a hole with some redundancy in Rich/Langford.

Some of you are underestimating what Thad will provide for this team. He averaged 12/6/4 and 1 steal shooting 56% with good defense last seas. He wasn't playing much this year because the Spurs had no incentive to do so. Having him and Barnes on the court at the same time will open up the offense even more with their ability to pass.

Definitely thought he was staying as an insurance policy if Birch/Achiuwa go down. I guess this means we'll potentially be players in the buyout market now? We have the money and roster spot now after the trade and waiving Eubanks.

1. Thad helps us win some extra regular season games and maybe we keep moving up the standings for a 1st round matchup against either of the Cavs/Bulls... which I think we can take. Valuable playoff experience and an exciting season for a team that most on here expected to win ~30 games.

2. We sign someone via the buyout market to help us in our playoff push and/or acquire a rotation player via the TPE in the offseason.

3. Eubanks shows us something and we bring him back as a back-up/3rd C for 2M next season.

Now what is the worst-case scenario for this trade? We miss out on an all-star/superstar that ~20 other teams also missed out on.

1. HC will be difficult, especially as Miami/Chicago get healthier, Milwaukee rounds into form and Philly just added a star. They're at least in the play-in if they continue current trend. To me, a top-6 finish and a few more guaranteed playoff games is not worth sacrificing long-term goals.

2. They could've done that anyway, and nobody is coming here on account of Thad Young - who they could've also signed for free in the off-season.

3. I mean, I'm hoping they can add those kinds of guys through free agency without giving up any assets, that's why I'm so disappointed without even going to that worst-case. They miss the chance for a better draft-day deal to package the pick. They could've used it to select a decent young rotation-level player with moderate upside. You don't need a superstar to lift the long-term upside so much more than what you received today.

Eubanks... I'm not sure of all the positivity, I expect he's either waived or doesn't really play. He's not fully guaranteed, this year or next (might be this year by now, not sure).

Well that answers that about his guarantee I guess. Or did they just waive the whole small amount?
