Yes! Coupled with the Harrell move this is about as good as it could have gotten for Washington.

No. No no. The smartest thing now is to let Porzingis rest, tank for a top pick and build around that. Extend Beal in the summer, just don't give him a supermax.
This is the best strategy by far, considering where this roster is. Hope for a top-5 pick and hope that Beal and Zinger come back healthy next season.

This was a helluva deal, honestly stunning. You know Ernie would've been the one to give up the draft pick, but instead we actually got one back.

This is a good deal. We got a useful player and a pick for players who couldn’t perform for our team. Really like this!

I’m so confused as to why Dallas would do that.

Calculus changes a bit. Now they are PG away from being pretty solid. They would be smart to rest Porzingis as much as possible and tank for a high pick.
Counting Carey, Todd, and our lotto pick, and with Beal on a max, that's a payroll of about $126M. That gives us the full MLE to go after a PG.

I thought Porzingis was an expiring after next season, lukewarm on his player option, but good riddance, Dinwiddie was just awful.

Amazing deal by Tommy all things considered. Porzingis is often injured and lacks mobility but he is still an impact player when he plays. Below is a comparison of his stats this season to Sabonis. To get him for the corpses of Dinwiddie and Bertans is a major win.

I'm not a fan of Porzingis, but factoring in our having dealt Bertans' terrible contract, this is a terrific deal. Not to mention that everyone can stop complaining about Spencer Dinwiddie.

How much of Porzingis' "poor play", if you wanna call it that, can be attributed to Luca Doncic and the way he plays?

Re: Porzingis + 2nd round pick for Dinwiddie, Bertans
I want to believe that Porzingis will be a valuable player, certainly he has great size and is willing to shoot from range. On the other hand, that we were able to pick him up for two contracts widely seen as strong overpays is a huge red flag. I hope like hell he's a good player for us but wouldn't be shocked if we end up regretting the deal. Still one I am glad the team rolled the dice on; we weren't going anywhere as we were.

He didn't play poorly, he's a great rim protector, OK shooter, great finisher and moves well w/o the ball.
His shortcomings:
Thinks he can create offense, but he really can't.
Soft.
Always injured.
He's actually better off playing next to Gafford, not instead of him, KP gueards the lesser offensive players and provides great help defense, the center bangs with the big guys.
This was a steal for the Wizards, Mavs FO were either under duress or under the influence.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

FBI needs to get involved. Robbery committed under duress, blackmail perhaps?
Psychotic. It didn’t make sense. I don’t know how you make it make sense

I really don't see how it's possible to regret the deal. In a worst case scenario, we traded two useless players for one useless player, but we got off the final year of Bertans' contract and we freed up a roster spot.

I’m having trouble keeping track.
Who’s left on our team?
What’s the depth chart?
And why oh why oh did we trade down to get Holiday then literally gave him away?

Mavs fan here. Im pretty sure the medical staff finally redflagged KP the same way they did it with Parsons when he opted out. Dirk still had something left in the talk but they let him walk in FA without even offering a contract and Stein etc confirmed it was because of his knees.
I think the medical staff told the FO that KP is going full Parsons...

I don't think either Dinwiddie or Bertans is useless. I think they are rotation players who got overpaid but can still be solid players in the right situation. I think there is a very good chance that Porzingis will never be a guy that is a positive on the floor again. If he is playable going forward, then it's a good deal but if not, then we gave up two guys that could have been rehabbed for a huge bad contract and a 2nd.
And of course, we gave away Harrell in the process, a player I know we differed on.

Well, time will tell, let’s hope you are wrong. What is clear is that your front office got fleeced: two bad contracts from us that would have required hefty draft compensation to get moved. So regardless of what we get from KP good job by our GM.
