I said it yesterday. Maybe its an 11:59am deal.
Charlotte trying to get a bigger name (Turner, Poeltl) but if price can't be agreed on then Holmes is the fall back guy?

his conversation eventually turned into a tangent about the five worst cities in the NBA. Lyles, who grew up in Indianapolis after moving from Canada as a 7-year-old, rattled off four cities: Detroit, Memphis, Milwaukee and Sacramento (“It’s horrible,” he said).

Yeah, I dont forget stuff like that
Having grown up in Sacramento--and since moved away ~20 years ago--I don't necessarily disagree with him. Sacramento has decent weather and is sort of close to other stuff. But that's really it. It doesn't have a plethora of art/history/culture like many other cities do (particularly the larger CA cities and most of the east coast); it doesn't have a large Black population (that I'd imagine young, black NBA players would be drawn too) like so many cities in the South; and doesn't have much "hipness" to it. The thing with Sac is that it doesn't have anything extremely bad... it just doesn't have anything all that great either.

For starters DiVincenzo has been really bad since returning from injury (he's only played 17 games so far). He's also a (restricted) free agent this summer.
Second Jackson is just a filler.
Lyles has been OK and could be a decent 4th or 5th big I guess.
That could be a blessing in disguise.
We may be able to resign him for a cheaper 3 year deal because of the injury. And hes definitely young enough to bounce back.
Lyles can play. At worst an upgrade over Metu and great contract with a team option for next season
Monte gets credit. He didn't make that next big splash but he quietly upgraded the players he needed to.

They really could let them share the floor together for about 10 minutes a game and it wouldn’t hurt anything. Get him around 25mpg and then look to move on in the summer. Sabonis made 2 All Star teams next another center if they can’t get this done in the next 9 minutes.

not happy with this, but you can only work with what the market gives you I guess
Hawks/Pistons probably wanted too much, and the market too little for Holmes
I guess we need to see if Holmes can play with Domas

Ya I'm a little disappointed. But I think some of the urgency to sell was gone when we got DDV today.
Still a big hole at PF, but we accomplished a lot this deadline. And we still have the summer to use our pick + Holmes for a true impact player. I'm going to guess Mitchell stays off the bench and closes games, although id prefer he started and we shifted Barnes/Holiday up a spot.
Sabonis (35) / Holmes (13)
Metu (18) / Barnes (18)
Barnes (16) / Lamb (18) / Holiday (14)
Holiday ( 16) / Fox (16) / DDV (16)
Fox (18) / Mitchell (30)
Kinda a complicated way to view the rotation. But how I envision minute break down for the 9 guys. With Lyles/Harkless/Jones as situational guys.

Charlotte is going to regret this. Harrell is not nearly as good as Holmes. And if they do make the playoffs, Harrell is basically unplayable.
I think we will absolutely revisit a Holmes trade in the summer. If we can get by at the 3-4 with the guys we have, its fine. Id rather make a better trade in the offseason than force a deal today.

Lyles is likely gonna play a lot of 4. He is averaging double figures this year and defends and though not a great 3 point shooter, he’s good from mid range.

Well it looks like Holmes and Sabonis are going to play a bit together (watch the high low lob) and I don't mind seeing if they can work it out.

At this point I think Monte's love affair with DDV is bordering on Morey/Harden.
If DDV can get back to where he was pre injury this is a great deadline for the Kings. Check the age profile of these guys. All mid 20s.
Hopefully DDV gets a new deal at a cheap rate.
Look at the D off the bench and also situationally. Davion/DDV off the bench and then add Holiday/Barnes in and that is enough to cover Sabonis for a decent amount of time.

Maybe its just hard to find minutes. Unless they value Lyles size over playing Lamb?

Sabonis being a bad defender is overstated. I thought he was fine against KAT the majority of last night. And that was his first game here??
Hes not a rim protector, not question about that. But in terms of man defense, he seemed just fine.
Also the Kings defense in general got so much damn better. I know Hali got steals, but he was not a good defender. He constantly gave up back doors and jumped at pump fakes and wasn't strong enough.
Holiday and DDV are both really good defenders.
Buddy and Bagley were horrendous defenders. Hali was a bad one imo as well.
Sabonis coming in as a rebounder stops teams from so many 2nd chance points. We won the rebound battle 51 to 34 last night. The night before we lost it 49 to 38.
Holmes isn't really the best defender, kinda small. But against backups? He should be an above average defender.
Now 3/4 of our guards are above average to elite defenders.

Agree 100%. I think for the most part Sabonis' D on KAT last night was excellent. I mean you're not going to stop KAT completely anyway, but he made things difficult on occasion and he had to give the ball up as well.
I think it's going to be important though that guards aren't driving the lane at will like they do just to give Sabonis a breather.
I look at what we did at the deadline and think about Vlade and Luke.
Vlade would be going, hey I wanted to replicate the Kings of yesteryear and they just got the upgraded version of me!
Luke would be telling everyone, why couldn't I get some guys that know how to play D?
I will say this right now. Vivek needs to stay the F away from this team and don't even look at the standings or W column. The absolute worst thing that could happen now is the Kings go on a run, get in the play in and Gentry gets hired.

Ya I said that yesterday to my Uncle lol. Somewhere Vlade is smiling at the Kings getting Sabonis. I have no ill will against Vlade. I think he was more ambitious than the rest of us, and probably a little to green. He thought he could convince players to come to Sac, but he didn't realize the stink this team had on it from the time he left. He thought Fox was a superstar and chose to not take Luka. Those were his 2 big mistakes.
But he also was under pressure from Vivek to win now. He wanted a culture change in Sacramento. That 18-19 team in theory had the "Culture" and talent to grow into something. Firing Joerger IMO was the right call, but hiring Walton wasn't. How much of that was Vivek wanting to be the Warriors? I guess we will never know.

Richaun shot 35.1% from three on 77 attempts in his second season. The following five seasons he attempted only 47 total threes, of that only 16 attempts in Sac. The numbers arent pretty. This season he is shooting 40% on just five attempts
Maybe Richaun can find that corner 3 magic again?
