Re: Welcome James Harden!
Long time Rockets and Harden fan here. Congratulations on getting The Beard! Hopefully he can tap into his play last year again. He is on the back end of his career sadly to say. But there is no reason he can’t consistently be a 23PPg, 7 Rebound 8-10 assist a game player ( which is still elite ) I’m not to sure how Doc is doing as a coach but if you want to maximize Harden he needs to be at no more than 32-33 MPG. He always does well with more rest at this point in his career. His injury is a big deal and he will need time to recover from this as Nash drove him into the ground with heavy minutes and usage while hurt.
I would expect much from Milsap he was awful in Brooklyn. They also waived Brembry I would go hard after him IMO. Very good 3-D player with nothing but hustle. He was always a positive for Brooklyn.
Good like guys I’m pulling for you!

We need him playing sooner rather than later. I legit think there will be some growing pains after we had Embiid playing PG for the last 2 months to then let James run the show. I hope he plays tomorrow in what should be a cupcake. I'd be fine if he took a few games here and there to rest the hamstring leading up to the playoffs.
Mercifully, Harden and Embiid play the complete opposite positions and don't occupy the same places on the court. I also think the PnR or DHO situation needs to be figured out between them.
Yes, need to get Harden out there assuming he's healthy to build chemistry w/the team.
That said, we need to load manage instead of running him into the ground like Nash did.
Thankfully we have the depth to do that.

I'm hoping Springer is ready to make the jump and add 5-10mpg for us. Between Shake, Kork, Maxey, Green, I feel we can win most games from here on out with Harden taking a few nights off for his hamstring. I'm just hoping he was over-exaggerating the effects of that injury in the name of getting traded. If it's truly a lingering issue, we might as well shut him down for a few weeks.

List of 11 comparable all-time NBA great shooting guards/small forwards and after what age () they fell off:
-Russell Westbrook (31)
-Dwyane Wade (32)
-Kevin Durant (33 and counting)
-Kobe Bryant (34, Achilles injury)
-Michael Jordan (34, retired)
-Julius Erving (34)
-Paul Pierce (35)
-Clyde Drexler (35, retired)
-Larry Bird (35, retired)
-Manu Ginobili (36)
-LeBron James (36 and counting)
Average age = 34.1, with 2 players still active.
Notable players excluded: Magic (AIDS), Melo (tier below), Steph/Stockton/Nash/Kidd/AI/CP3 (size). Anyone else I'm missing or see any ages that look off?
Based on *averages*, Harden (32) may have roughly 3 high-level season/playoff runs left (including this year). Here's to hoping he beats the average by a year or two.

What? Where did you hear that? I thought Bembry played very well for them. Very active. A perfect 3&D player if you need depth on the bench

I guess I have to change my avatar to a 76ers logo now lol. I followed Harden from the HOU to BKN, and now PHI.
I don't know a lot about the 76ers tbh, but I have seen JH play in over 1,000 games. Will be nice to see a team that actually has some support around him, where he isn't double teamed every other possession. Looking forward to seeing what the best duo in the NBA has to offer going forward. GL!

You are not alone my friend. You are not alone. Been a Houston Rockets fan for almost 20 years. In love with Harden and followed him to Nets and now Philly. Here's hoping he can finally get his ring paired with Embiid. He deserves it.

They reported it not long ago. He was great with Brooklyn. He was always a plus on the court and I feel like JH got a long very well with him. Morey should be on the phone now. He would be a great addition!

Welcome aboard Harden fans. Just know that the Sixers have some sort of blood curse against the franchise (RIP Hinkie) so strap in for a bumpy ride.

Question, on a team with Durant and Irving (I understand they were rarely all together), why was he doubled every other possession with that kind of fire power?

Exactly, that's what I too was writing about a few days ago when I was expressing my nervousness about a long-term supermax. And it's why I was so relieved to hear that Harden had opted in to his 2022-23 contract as part of the trade, so there's now a 2-year title window with a chance to part ways in summer 2023 if things haven't worked out well (or if they have, and Philly is title-town, but if Harden's performance has tailed off a lot).
But a little while ago a friend texted me to say that according to what she'd read, the Sixers can still negotiate a long-term extension with Harden this summer and she thought he would be petulant if it doesn't happen. I hadn't heard anything like that. So I searched around to see what I could find. Please tell me that Justin Grasso is simply describing the situation in a confusing way? Please, I'd like some reassurance.
Justin Grasso wrote:Therefore, he's locked into next season and will receive $47.3 million for 2022-2023. And when the offseason rolls around, the Sixers' front office can begin discussing a long-term extension beyond next year if both parties are interested.

I think my friend might have read this to mean that when THIS (2022) offseason rolls around the Sixers can discuss a long-term extension, and possibly other people read it that way too and ran with it, but (I'm hoping) that by "the offseason" Grasso actually meant the 2023 offseason.
I either need some people to agree with my reading or for someone to hold me.

Unless something catastrophic happens to Harden, I'm all for giving him a 4-year extension this summer. His contract would expire at the same time as Embiid's. He'll probably be great for 4 out of 6 total years with us, but closer to trash the last 2 years. That's worth the first 4 years though IMO.
Who knows, maybe he'll play great through his age 36 season (year 5/6 with us). Smaller guys, such as Stockton, Nash, and Kidd all played great through their age 37 season. CP3 is still doing it at 36 and Curry has shown no signs of slowing down at his age 33 season. Regardless, with all the talk of him being a risk, I think there's infinitely more reward for us.

Re: Welcome James Harden!
So excited to have Harden. Prior to the pandemic, Harden is the player I like to watch the most.
He was one of the faces of the league before he got traded to the Nets. He is the face of Adidas Basketball with his ugly shoe line design but it sells, because he is James Harden. When he played for the Nets, he suddenly look like his popularity and brand fall off the cliff. He isn’t getting recognized in stripclubs. I believe he asked for a trade because he wants it back.
Yes, Harden’s age is a concern. But I think we can structure a roster for both Harden and Embiid to age gracefully. And when Harden gets to 35 and beyond, I’d expect him to score less and play more of a pure point guard like CP3 right now (not saying he’ll be as good).
Handing out picks in 2025 and 2027 is also a concern. But we still have picks in between those years, with assets like Maxey, Thybulle and Springer when we need upgrades in the future.

Yeah I think they only had the big 3 for a few games lol. They didn't double team him when Durant was playing, but anyone outside of him wasn't good enough to punish the defense enough on a 4 on 3 to justify not throwing a quick double to get the ball out of Harden's hands.

Re: Welcome James Harden!
Welcome James!!! Fear the Beard!! Although there is some obvious risk the potential here is absolutely exciting. I’m most surprised we were able to keep both Thybulle/Maxey, I was really coming to terms with letting go of Thybulle to make sure we didn’t waste Embiid’s MVP year. The fans calling this is an overpay are truly mind boggling to me — you must give to receive. Harden is an upgrade over Curry, Drummond is easily replaceable in the buyout market and two picks seem more than fair. Drummond had a good bounce back year but his IQ, touch always drove me nuts. Not too long ago was Drummond one of the most overpaid players in the league lol. We had no leverage with Ben as he was refusing to play. Nets gave up Levert, Allen and 5 firsts for Harden.
Tldr- Harden makes us title contenders today, as yesterday we were hoping Embiid could carry us to the ECF. We kept our young assets. We now have an elite duo. It’s a good freaking day. Go Sixers!
