Solid trade considering we gave up next to nothing. Does anyone know exactly which 2nd rounder we gave up?

Pros
Significantly improved our post and pick & roll scoring
Slightly improved rebounding
Opens up a roster spot
We get out of 2-3 years of Vernon's (small) guaranteed salary. He wasn't going to work out here. EDIT last year is team option 1-2 years
Expiring contract - slightly improved roster flexibility for next year (VCJ)

Cons (very few)
We take on $3.7 million in salary this year (only affects MJ's wallet)
We badly need a backup PG now but should be able to find a buyout or give Crutcher a chance - No way Bouknight can play backup PG
The trade does nothing to address our defensive and rim protection needs
Not a long term fix

Definite talent upgrade and they didn't give anything up worth caring about, but Harrell seems like a really bad fit for what this team needs. The offense will be more resilient and the rebounding is nice, but adding him to the rotation might make the defense even worse (I think hes worse on that end than Plumlee and PJ) unless moving PJ to PF more pays off. He also has a history of locker room issues. Its kind of hard to say if this will pay off imo, but I could see it going either way.

Well, Harrell as a plus athlete at the 5, and that seems like just what the Hornets need. And he's a dog. Charlotte needed that.

How different are Harrell and Holmes, honestly? Harrell has a 7' 4" wing span and 9' 1" standing reach, hustles like a demon and scores efficiently inside and has playoff experience.

And I can't imagine what the Kings asked for Holmes but I'm 100% confident it was more than Ish Smith + Carey Jr. I saw Kings fans asking for PJ + Pelicans pick.

Difference being a likely half season rental of Harrell vs 3 years of Holmes on a solid deal

This is the bull you want roughing up Kai Jones and Nick Richards in practice. He's not an easy match-up for anyone soft. They need to learn NBA toughness as they train on weights and add bulk. Between Harrell - Kai - Richards - PJ you get a little bit of everything. You can return to any Poetl deal in the offseason. He will have one year left on his contract and we will know where the Pelicans pick stands. Most teams are running centers by committee and ours just improved with key missing ingredients in addition to toughness like rebounding and inside scoring. Let PJ pop his threes. Let Kai run the floor. Let Richards rack up blocks. Harrell is a high end placeholder as the young talent rounds out in the coming few years. And sprinkle in Thor.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think bringing him in wouldn't be a very good move.

Even taking away what he means to the franchise, you don't think Kemba could come in and play something similar to Devonte's role from last year? We can afford to sit him whenever he needs the rest and play our current rotation. If he's bought out, it would be a minimum deal for the season. We do need to fill that backup PG spot one way or another, whether it's someone like Augustin who just got bought out, a guard from the Swarm... we can't go into the home stretch without some insurance. LaMelo and Terry are the only players on the roster you could even kind of consider a PG right now. If one of them misses time, all of a sudden you're asking Cody Martin to run backup point, maybe Bouknight.

Kemba would be, by far, the best player in FA, and would be at a position of need. But I do not expect a buyout this season. He's on a $9M contract which is going to be easy to move next year.

Don't get me wrong, I think we need PG depth, I just wouldn't go for Walker.

My take is: Not prime Walker, because prime Walker was awesome, but we already have a better version of current Walker in TRo. It would feel like massive redundancy to me to have two, undersized score first combo guards with suspect defense on the roster.

Walker's energy and the teams/fans love for him would be awesome, but a lot of people keep posting that we don't need more "nice guys" on the roster, we need some more "sand paper" guys, and Walker is pretty much the ultimate "nice guy".

Plus, how does someone who was as loved as Walker was who was THE leader and team captain come back and be a 10-15mpg, playing every other game off the bench depth piece?

Kemba would boost the offense. But we don't need more offense. I'd try to find a half-decent defensive PG.

I'd love to know which halfway serviceable PG on the buyout market doesn't fit that archetype. Michael Carter-Williams was cut today but I'll slap the **** out of anybody who suggests that we sign him

Sign Dellavedova or Exum so we can have an Australian on the team.

Sit tight and see who shakes loose.

There's rumblings of guys like Bledsoe or Schroder becoming available.
