I think Langford still has a lot of upside. He's in his 3rd year but it's deceiving because he had a never ending string of injuries his first couple years and barely played. He's still pretty young as far as NBA experience.
A very solid young player on both ends. Good defender and his shot has gotten a lot better. Pretty automatic from the corners. Can put the ball on the floor and drive it too. And not prone to mistakes.
Honestly his improvement has been impressive considering his lack of playing time due to injures. If he can stay healthy and gets an opportunity you guys might end up with a gem.

I guess we'll see. We were 6 or so games over .500 when we got hit with Covid to multiple players and that derailed our season.
The difference between last season and now is that we have many more options who collectively can fill in some gaps. Cs fans seem to really like what Richardson has brought them this season. Langford is on a rookie contract. Look I know the loss short term, but I think we also positioned ourselves to mitigate it somewhat along with assets we acquired.
Hiya...
Celts fan lurking to see what you guys made of the White trade. Seems like sensible cap management and draft capital acquisition to me, and maybe a chance to play Walker and Vassell more and see what you got. On our side, White can help us on court and fits well with our defence.
Just on what you've got coming back...
Richardson has been rock solid for us over the last month or so. Outside shot has been there (he tweaked his mechanics in the off season), he can handle a bit, and he's a steady, versatile defender. Not sure he fits into your plans, but he'll be a solid rotation guy and just seems to do what's asked of him.
Langford is trickier. His minutes were so sporadic, we don't even know what he is. Fair to say the flashes he's shown haven't developed, but he's a decent athlete who can play NBA quality defence, so it's not like he'll kill you on court if you need to play him.
He's a guy I'd take a flyer on if I was a bad team, since I think there might be something there. But he's injured a lot, and you guys still seem to have a log jam at his position.
(Oops...to be clear, I don't see you guys as a bad team. He is just the sort of young guy you see get thrown into trades because he has shown something...just not consistently.)

Its ok, we are a bad team

But I don't think we are tanking, just finding our way.
Thanks for the info on your guys!
A little insight on White.
As you can probably tell from various threads, most everyone loved him here. He's a great team guy, works hard and wants to win.
IMO, we resigned him because the team liked him also. This year was going to be a showcase to see who between him and Murray would be the one they would move forward with. Its not that White is a bad player, but its hard to argue watching this season who is the better of the two(I favored White over Murray until this year).
He's a scorer, defender and facilitator. However, he still at times, struggles with consistency. I remember mentioning in a game thread just a few night ago that he seems to sometimes have his basketball IQ drop from high to almost zero for 5 minutes spans where you want to scream, then he is fine after that and helps you win the game.
I have confidence that he is going to flourish for Boston and you guys will love his game. The only thing that worries me about him is his foot injury history. IDK if its by design or what but just watch him run. Its like he over emphasizes running on the balls of his feet. He was well on his way to being a main piece here before he went through a string of injuries with his feet and it took him forever to get back to playing the way he was before (Which was why I was hesitant to resign him). That is the only way you guys would lose with this trade. I hope none of that happens and he plays great for you. He's a great guy.

We also got draft assets and extra cap space for two players we hardly ever used.
How that signifies we've 'embraced the tank' is beyond me.
We're 15 games under .500 with the 6th worst record in the league already

The Spurs are obviously not "tanking," and selling White for Richardson doesnt signify they are. Spurs are trying to win, they just arent a very good team, but they definitely are not trying to lose. Anyone who thinks that clearly isn't watching us (then again, who blames them)

Yeah I mean even a quick look would perhaps broaden perspectives, but most of the time it's all just so immediately reactionary, and wrong. Like I said I love Derrick but now I see that he's better positioned with the Celtics for his stage of his career - it's a better alignment. Where they are we're looking to be but that may not happen until the end of his current contract at which point he'd be out of alignment with us, if you know what I mean.
I'm happy for him even as it still stings since he's my favourite Spur.
As for our trajectory, you hit it on the head - we're never going to lose games on purpose. But we are where we are and this is the process we have to go through in the rebuild. And we're here watching all of it!

Re: 2021-2022 SPURS TRADE DEADLINE RUMOURS AND DEALS
So to sum up:
THIS is an important potential boon:
... and cap space.
No number for Sato yet.
Dragic is a sure bet buyout.
As for the new players coming back, some tidbits:
Well that's good.
So is this:
A quick write up about Josh:
Romeo has been dealing with injuries so consistency has eluded him. But he's a willing defender on a rookie contract. Some time with Chip ought to help.
The ONLY thing about Josh is that he's been dodgy about his vaccine status. Have to find out whether or not he played in NYC. If not, this for me is a red flag to be around Pop, but I'm sure we know about it and are dealing with it.
It was a whirlwind day in Spursland. We made three trade day deals, four in total with Bryn. And although Derrick was the focus of the emotional ride, being without three very good locker room guys is a hit for us right now. There's no sugar coating it. And while Thad and Derrick have landed in very good situations, I feel bad for Drew. He's essentially out of a job right now and I don't think he earns next year's salary. He gave his all while he was here. Great team mate. Took Pop's lashings steadily. Wrecking ball that provided the physicality we don't have a lot of. I really hope he lands in a great place and continues his career.
Thad was a solid vet that a lot of the young guys leaned on so we can't overlook the importance of that to a young locker room that is going through some growing pains. Maybe Josh can provide some of that? Satoransky, too? I think Doug is now the oldest player on the team. We'll need to rally around one another all the more.
Derrick. Well he's been our feel good draft story what with everything he and his dad did in college to get noticed by bigger schools, switching schools, growth spurt, getting drafted by us, the development from the guy in the room Pop would forget was there because he was so quiet to the guy who was such a willing community engager and brought the dad jokes.
Speaking of which, he got married this summer and recently announced that he and his wife are expecting a child. So yeah, this was not an easy decision for PATFO. But it's one we've made in the past:
It's part of the business side of operating a team and going through the rebuild process. But it's a part that Pop has often said he hates. It couldn't have been an easy discussion with Drew and Derrick in particular (Thad was probably overjoyed lol). It never gets any easier especially since Pop is so focused on building relationships with the players as people first. Bigger than the game, but the game side of things still have to be dealt with.
Then again, a sense of humour is always a great companion. Check out Pop's quip about the whole talking to players process toward the end of this clip
I hope if there are any lingering hurt feelings that they are mitigated by the fact that we put them in very good situations where their games can flourish.
Blessings to them all, and may it return to us as well.

Re: 2021-2022 SPURS TRADE DEADLINE RUMOURS AND DEALS
Grateful Celtics fan here that wanted to say thank you for trading White our way. I admit I haven't watched many Spurs game since Parker left so I had no idea he was such a baller. The three doesn't drop super consistently but he does everything else at such a high level. It's like having another calmer Marcus Smart out there.
Hope you can use the pick you got back to get a good prospect. The Western conference just doesn't feel right without the Spurs at the top of the playoff picture.
