Buyout/Free Agency thread

Post#1 » by amcoolio » Fri Feb 11, 2022 1:24 am

We have two open roster spots? I think?

DeAndre Bembry is the prize as he is a really good wing defender, but we would have to put in a claim for him (waived by Nets to complete Simmons/Harden trade)

We also need a backup PG.

What is the current list of bought out players by position?

Maybe list them in your OP and then cross them off as they are signed.

everyone talking about Kemba but honestly a DJ reunion wouldn't be that bad to me. He's pretty much a perfect 3rd string PG. He doesn't have that elite single game changing attribute like Ish had with his quickness but I think he's a steadier PG and obviously he can at least shoot

None yet, just DeAndre Bembry, Enes Freedom, Drew Eubanks, Moses Brown, Abdel Nader waived.

There is speculation that: Goran Dragic, Semi Ojele, Rodney Hood, Dennis Schroeder, Josh Jackson are going to be bought out/waived

We have one open roster spot only.

Bembry or Bledsoe, hopefully.

Schroeder would be interesting, but ehh...

Bouknight, Martin, Oubre, PJ, Harrell
Thor, Kai, Richards, McDaniels

You're right, I forgot McDaniels existed

Bembry would be ideal. Charlotte guy, jack of all trades, solid defender, can even play a bit of point.

Keith Smart's list of possible buy outs: DJ Augustin, Eric Bledsoe, Jeremy Lamb, Goran Dragic, Robin Lopez, Paul Millsap, Tomas Satoransky, Tristan Thompson, Thaddeus Young, John Wall(?)

Bembry has the hustle gene like Cody. Don't the Nets have someone else they could cut instead of an honestly useful player? smh.

I'd take any capable point of attack defender that could give us minutes at the point and guard a couple of positions - Bembry, Exum -- hell, free Kris Dunn from Agua Caliente :)

I agree, he's also a realistic target. I don't think guys like Bledsoe or Schroder would sign here. That said I'd choose him over those two anyway, so it works out.

We've had some success bringing in hard-working role players from NC since Mitch got here. Graham, Martin, Ish, and Harrell (hopefully) all gave us some great production. We might as well keep it going since it seems to be working.

If we strike out on impact level buy out guys, Moses Brown would be worth a look as a developmental big to complement Richards in the pipeline.

7'2, 245, elite shot blocker who moves well for his size. Rebounds at a high level and also has a bit of post game. Poor foul shooter with limited range. Was G-league first team last year and also all-defensive team. 18.5/14/2 in 26mpg. Still only 22.

Last game of the season last year vs. the Clippers.

ehh, the general consensus from the teams that have had him the last couple years is that his stats are fool's gold. Doesn't really do anything at an NBA level besides rebound. if we're going to give minutes to a major project like that, I'd rather it be Kai Jones

Sign Bembry to a 2 year deal, give us insurance if someone throws the bag at Cody this summer.

I would be shocked if Bembry isn't claimed by a team ahead of us in the waiver order

And equally shocked if we pass on him...
