Michael Carter-Williams Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by Howard Mass » Fri Feb 11, 2022 8:33 am

I'm surprised no one has started this.

I will never forget when Michael Carter-Williams was signed a few years ago at the urging of then-Head Coach Steve Clifford.

It helped The Magic get into The Playoffs and break a Playoff Drought.

Nothing but the best to him.

When we got him i thought he sucks and is worthless pickup.
Over two seasons he grew up on me and despite being horrific shooter he played his heart out every game and some elite defense.

Sad to see MCW go! He was one of the main reasons we made it to the playoffs when we did a couple of years ago. Picking him up coming off of injuries to our guards was huge. Still remember his clutch defense and rebounds that season.

We need more players like him that work their asses off on every single play. Hope he's able to latch onto another team soon. Would be sad to see him going overseas when he can still bring elite defense to some contenders from off their bench.

As I said in the Trade deadline thread, I'll always respect MCW highly I don't care about how his shooting stats looked. The guy was a warrior, we had a few games where his energy carried us to W's. He potentially sacrificed his career just so we can have the required amount to play games last season knowing he had a bad ankle. All the times he was jawing with other teams players and rattling them, I don't think before him we had someone that was able to do that on a regular basis for a while.

I really hope he can join a contender and perform for them, he will still be able to guard a teams best ball handler and be a nuisance.

All the best to him!

Wish him the best. He played his guts out for the Magic all over the court and you can't ask for much more than that.

A three position player that always accepted his role. He helped the Magic in the playoff seasons. Hopefully he is actually healthy and can sign its a playoff team. Perhaps this was a fairness-related termination of contract.

As to Moore, as he never played a minute in the regular season, officially he was never a Magician. In that he made $1,7439,024.39 in pre-tax income to not-play basketball. I am sure he appreciates that even if we cannot appreciate him.

Still don't understand this decision...he has a so good guy to have around. Pretty intelligent player. He could have been used as a mentor for our young guards... I'm disappointed.

I assume they waived him to let him join another team. If no one picks him up, then yeah it seems like a dumb decision for everyone.

Will always have a soft spot for MCW with the Magic. Really appreciate how he brought it every night on the defensive end and how great of a teammate he was. I do hope he latches on with another team and gets to continue his NBA career. If not, then I hope he can come back to the Magic in some capacity.

Picked one of my favorite highlights of his along with his instrumental play against Toronto in that Game 1 back in 2019. Thanks for everything MCW!

This game is MCW in a nutshell (missed layups and all).

He plays such an infectious style of basketball and has a grit to him that I love. It was so refreshing to have him during the end of the Vuc/Evan/AG years as I didn’t feel any other player on those rosters played with the same edge. I always said in gamethreads through those years how important of a piece I thought he was for us. A lot of what he did didn’t show up on box scores, but for us watching, it was easy to see his value.

I’m hoping Suggs can take the mantle and be that high energy, elite defender, and timely basket maker for this rebuild.

I will always remember game changing rebounds and his bloody face argument with officials.
Great person to have around hope someone picks him this season. Overall it was propably a favor we did him.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Hard to dislike him. Bad offensively for sure but he always made a positive impact on the floor regardless. Just a hardcore competitor.

His energy, defense, and rebounding alone won us several games.

Realistically, there weren't minutes for him here anymore, but nevertheless, he will be missed. During his time here, he arguably impacted winning more than anyone else.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

I loved MCW from the moment he got here. His presence off the bench was a much bigger part of the team making the playoffs that year than people realise. The dude doesn’t quit on the court and he’s everything I like to see in a player even if his shots don’t fall and his game has warts.

I really enjoyed having MCW on the team the past few years and wish him all the best moving forwards.
