Quite obviously this is untrue or else Brad would have done one of these imaginary deals.

and lol at "PLUS Kanter". Dude was immediately cut.

I’m not a fan of the deal, but if Schroeder had any value you’d think Houston would’ve done a three team deal. Nobody wants the guy.

He is a decent rotation player, if Horford goes down with injury we will be glad we have him, maybe Brad knows he is trading Horford in the offseason and wanted a reliable backup for the oft injured RW

Agree.

He's perfect for the Celts now because his contract situation has been resolved.

I didn't like Theis as a starter with the Cs.

But as the backup big man, he's perfect!

Roles are reversed now, he'll be backing up Time Lord which is what a lot of people wanted except Rob wasn't ready then. I think Theis will flourish as a backup. I watched a few Houston highlights and he's still an excellent shot blocker, and he actually looks more mobile out there. That and he can hit threes.

Seems good for the Celtics honestly. They weren't going to be able to retain Schroder anyway. Theis knows his role and already has been paid.

They are also good friends. Grew up in the same area in Germany and were teammates for a while in pre NBA days. I would like to see the text messages between the two of them from yesterday.

I think this is a great situation for Vanilla Theis. The signing with Houston made sense for him financially, but otherwise I didn't make sense for anybody. So maybe a little expensive for a backup 5, but that's the perfect role for him. That's why the Celtics brought him over from Europe in the first place.

Rankings in Celtics History (per BBRef):

2-pt FG% - 1st
TS% - 3rd
eFG% - 1st
Block % - 3rd
ORtg - 2nd

Timelord leads/appears in several categories.

Don’t get the hate, big upgrade over Kanter and we don’t need Schröder anymore.

Solid fit for us. Rim protection for 48 minutes on top of the elite POA defense we already have.

We need an additional big to man the middle. Theis is just too soft to guard legit bigs in the block. I would be fine if he is our 3rd string center getting around 5M, but at 9M a year for 3 more years? Lol over paid definitely.

Definitely an upgrade for Kanter, but his contract is just awful!

Theis did pretty decent, tbh, he can't catch a break with the refs, that's why I'm happy he's a back-up this time. I still remember when Embiid literally swung his hand while with his back to Theis, hit Theis, flopped and then Embiid got a foul called in his favor. It was bizzare, which again makes me happy he isn't a starter. He will never have the refs' respect, despite being kinda elite on defense stats-wise.
Good assessment:

Theis is decent just as long as he don’t start at all, plus if we had Horford of 5 years ago. Reality check. We have 6’8 Rob, 6’8 theis, 6’6 grant and 6’9 horford for our bigs. Pretty undersized league wise. We know Rob gets injured a lot, and horf shouldn’t even play more than 30mins. We are pretty thin on that end. We need an additional legit big that can bang bodies with the likes of embiid,

- Theis is a backup center that happened to start for the Celtics because they didn't have anybody better.
- Bam is a All Star/All NBA caliber big.
- Theis had knee surgery just after the series ended, suggesting he wasn't 100% healthy.
To expect him to hold his own in that matchup is absurd.

By the way, Bam had two big games in that series, game 3 and 6 which coincided with the two games where Theis played less 30 minutes because of foul trouble. Weird. Also, the Celtics were +4 during Theis' time on the floor during the series. I'm not sure he is nearly as responsible for the Celtics defeat as the fans like to paint him to be.

I don't love the contract but I am really glad to have the player back. Looking at his cleaning the glass page, I was shocked to see that since the 2019/2020 season, the team as a whole fouls way less often when he is on the floor. It certainly doesn't feel that way watching the games

As a backup to Rob, he is pretty much the perfect compliment.

I still can't help but think that if Brad sat Theis (who really struggled) during the 2020 ECF and started Timelord we win that series.

For a team that has shed a number of draft picks to stay under the lux tax apron, 8mm for 3 years for a guy who you ideally want to only play modest or spot minutes there is understandably some concern that silly moves will continue to be made to avoid paying.
