probably just ran out of time to make anything happen. but i read they can actually push the philly 2022 pick to 2023 if they want. they can trade it this summer then instead of making it.

running out of time is a horrible excuse. This is there job this is what they do. They should have had side deals lined up because the Harden rumors didn't start this morning.

they thought they were getting another player from philly. the picks were because they didn't. or maybe they want to hold onto that pick. if embiid gets hurt next year, as he's known to do, you know you can't rely on harden to keep the ship upright anymore.

BKN might have some promises for the buy out market

This team gives any fan worth his salt at least half a dozen times a year where you really question your life choices. WTF is wrong with us?

While this is entirely possible, I just don’t see us getting the 10th seed. None of the teams above us are tanking except Wizards. We will probably only pass them

Compelling.

I didn't understand the trade for the Nets until I read this statement, now everything makes sense.

In concept though, they are mostly tradable. Burks and Noel have a team option after next year. Walker expires.

Now, Burks has been bad, but I at least partially blame him being used as a point guard and top defender. He's not being used the same as last year. Noel, hasn't been great or healthy. So, there goes the concept.

Rose has an extra year, but is better (when healthy). He just hasn't been healthy.

Randle and Evan, ok, yes, not tradable. Again, in theory, that was supposed to be the talent. It's just not.

We don't know what offers were made. It is possible the better value is using them as expirings next year and figuring out what to do with Randle and EF.

But they really weren't. In concept or not. There were better options on other teams (same type of production and/or better health and/or for less money in dollars and/or years) if there were teams out there looking for the type of vets the Knicks were trying to hock. The problem aren't the players, it's their contracts. Even if it's just one more year it's still one more year at a larger than necessary amount. NBA teams try to maximize talent and salary per year matters. There was no reason why Leon Rose and the Knicks needed to bring any of the guys they brought back for the contracts that they gave them. None. Not even Derrick Rose and you can argue that he was the only one that they really really needed back all things considered. The myth of the "oh that's not a bad contract" being tradeable is not really accurate. If Burks and Noel were being paid mid-level money, then sure. If Fournier was being paid $12-14 (even $15) mill, sure. But they overpaid significantly every one of these guys...even Walker in hindsight if the goal was to get a serious damaged former star that can't play more than 30-40 games. If it were all of the guys they signed (minus Rose and maybe Taj) would already be ex-Knicks. It's clear (at least to me) that the Knicks FO realized they made a mistake (a HUUUUGE) mistake with how they went about last offseason. HUUUUUUUUGGGGE.

The basically sums up the Knicks current FO. I'd have preferred that they just come out and say "sorry Knick fans everywhere, we **** up big time overpaying for role players, it won't happen again!"

You know what? I was thinking about this last night while sitting on my throne at home taking care of some serious business and realized this... "Holy frick, this is Scott Layden all over again!!"

For those too young to remember Scott Layden...he was one of the many AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL Knicks GM's. His specialty was grossly overpaying role players when what he needed most was top tier talent and cap flexibility. He misjudged how far along the team was and what this team really needed to take the next step. He apparently felt they were closer to contention than they really were and loaded up on veteran role players for unnecessarily large contracts in Shandon "(the original) Stone Hands" Anderson, Howard "Hey, my bad Antonio, I didn't realize I was going to land on your surgically repaired knees in preseason" Eisley and Clarence "3 Chins on the back of the head" Weatherspoon.

I think Brunson is signing with us this off-season and Cuban knows it. No way they pay both him and Spencer.

I don't think the Knicks have the cap space unless Brunson is willing to take the MLE or they can find several someone's to take those bloated veteran contracts off their hands in the offseason (only slightly less likely than before the deadline). Otherwise it would have to be a sign and trade (and the Mavs aren't going to be giving Brunson to the Knicks for nothing but expirings).

I have a feeling Knicks will trade Burks and Noel with picks or assets to the Thunder in the offseason to open up cap space.

The Zach Lowe post trade podcast is always great and this might be the best one yet.

If you're fed up with Harden being a giant baby, Lowe goes in probably the hardest I've ever heard him on any player. He tears that dude apart. And he's right.

Now that Knick fans have witnessed Trump as President, maybe there will be broader understanding of what it must be like to work for a boss who just wants you to tell him he’s #1, we’re #1, right away boss, everything is awesome boss!

You’re right about the Layden similarity. But also it’s been 20+ continuous years of acting (and spending) like we’re good when we’re not.

Remember how those years ended—he got fired and the next regime signed Washed Amare before trading away every last asset for Carmelo.

Leon has his playbook. Let’s see if he can pull off his fake superstar acquisition before Dolan J Trump says “you’re fired!”

Good. What he's done is pathetic.

I wasn't even mad at Durant like this. Hated that he went to the Ws but he played his ass off, played his contract through, and free agency is his call. Just dogging it like Harden has... twice... huge side eye.

Knicks probably going to look for a disgruntled "star" to pair with Randle in the off-season by using RJ and Obi as the centerpieces... I'm thinking Dame or Donavan Mitchell type guys... road to treadmill.

RJ & Obi + filler + picks for Mitchell
Re-signing Mitch Robinson

And trotting out...

Mitch, Randle, Cam, Burks, Mitchell @ PG w/ Rose ,Grimes, and Taj on the bench squad.

Maybe a 50-win treadmill squad, if there was one. And Leon and Dolan call it a job well done because they got two borderline all-stars in Randle and Donavan leading the way... oh well. Might as well prepare for it and hope that we go after a younger guy like DMitch instead of an over-the-hill guy like Dame Dollah or Beal.

Return to New York Knicks
