For those too young to remember Scott Layden...he was one of the many AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL Knicks GM's. His specialty was grossly overpaying role players when what he needed most was top tier talent and cap flexibility. He misjudged how far along the team was and what this team really needed to take the next step. He apparently felt they were closer to contention than they really were and loaded up on veteran role players for unnecessarily large contracts in Shandon "(the original) Stone Hands" Anderson, Howard "Hey, my bad Antonio, I didn't realize I was going to land on your surgically repaired knees in preseason" Eisley and Clarence "3 Chins on the back of the head" Weatherspoon.
Now that Knick fans have witnessed Trump as President, maybe there will be broader understanding of what it must be like to work for a boss who just wants you to tell him he’s #1, we’re #1, right away boss, everything is awesome boss!
You’re right about the Layden similarity. But also it’s been 20+ continuous years of acting (and spending) like we’re good when we’re not.
Remember how those years ended—he got fired and the next regime signed Washed Amare before trading away every last asset for Carmelo.
Leon has his playbook. Let’s see if he can pull off his fake superstar acquisition before Dolan J Trump says “you’re fired!”
