Kyrie/Patty Mills/Seth Curry Situation for the Nets

Post#1 » by picc » Sun Feb 13, 2022 12:48 am

So this is obviously a good problem to have, but the Nets now have three good players who should all be playing at the end of games, but can't, due to size and defensive limitations.

If the vaccine mandate continues, of course Kyrie will be removed from that equation in home games, but in away games and in the event its removed, they now have a rotation of:

Kyrie
Patty Mills
Seth Curry

Kyrie will be playing at game's end when available, so thats a given. What about Mills and Curry? Both are great shooters, Patty is clutch and absolutely needs to be in IMO, but Seth was the Sixers 2nd best player in the playoffs last season.

How do you allocate their minutes if you're Steve Nash?

Who do you play at the end of games, and in what positions, knowing you'll be giving up defense if you play more than one?

Kyrie does not always play games at the end when available. It depends on how he's doing defensively.

Kyrie and Simmons can play well together.

Kyrie at the 2. Mills off the bench.

With All 3 available we can have some mins where some 2 player combo of the 3 will be on the floor together. Curry will play the 2 for a little especially if it can work defensively dependent on the opposing team.
With Simmons hopefully our interior D with KD and our centers can handle that.

Thread is about Curry, Mills, and Kyrie, not Simmons.

Seth Curry isn't close to a PG. He can kinda handle the ball if you need him to but that's not a strength of his and you're misusing him if he needs to do that.

If you mean can they play Kyrie, Mills, and Curry together--that's probably not ideal but they would want to when they need to keep the offense beautiful.

It would be ideal, but impossible to get away with defensively.

i mean ben simmons is clearly the best passer i dont understand why ben should be banned from touching the ball.
ben's draft comparison was lebron and hes under 25. if nets want to make him all nba, experimenting him to be a jokic-lebron hybrid is the only option. as soon as you ditch his playmaking, he has no value as a player basically a westbrook. none of the nets guards are traditional pgs to let them full time be the lead playmaker.

Mills > Curry, Championship Experience.
The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player

Curry is a 2-guard. Mills is a 3rd guard off the bench. I'd start Kyrie and Seth in the backcourt, with Simmons KD and I guess LMA. That puts plenty of shooting and spacing around Simmons.

I'd put the ball in Simmons' hands and tell him he's a 6'9" Jason Kidd. If Simmons isn't handling the ball, his value drops dramatically.

Can you please keep discussion to the Mills/Curry/Kyrie rotation.

That would make some sense. But Curry has gotten cooked by two guards from the Sixers games I've seen. Size limitation.

Can Sixers fans drop some knowledge on it?

I don’t get it. “Point guard position” He is gonna be a playmaker no matter what you want to call the other guys.

If Seth can't guard, replace him with Bruce Brown in the starting lineup and have Simmons/Brown at the 2/3.
