I don't think we should be scapegoating Neto. He didn't have a great game, but it wasn't a horrific game or anything. We lost the game on defense more so than offense. Winston wouldn't have helped there.
This team isn't very good. Losing should be the default expectation.
Not scapegoating, just seems curious not to play the young guy after a decent outing the last game for a guy that is on a vets minimum and is obviously being targeted by every offense in the league. To put another way, there is without a doubt a scouting report that every team in this league has, to target Neto. I don't even care about the lose, I'm actually happy about it, so that's not the genesis of my feelings, but why play someone that many minutes, when they are a huge liability, and are gone at the end of the season when you can see what you got in a young guy?

Neto is a better defender than Winston.

We don't know that, in fact at worst its probably a wash defensively, albeit we don't know due to a small sample size for Winston. Maybe, just a maybe, Winston can maybe run an offense somewhat. We know Neto can't, he's a pint sized SG who can dribble somewhat (that's why he plays) but can't really shoot.
nate, I feel like you're boxing yourself in a bit as your running hypothesis is that Winston hasn't played because the staff knows he can't. Maybe you're right, in fact it's not a bad guess, but maybe its better just to see what you can get from a player in live game situations.
This is not to say Neto should be completely benched, just give some minutes to Winston, it can't hurt.

1.Raul Neto ALWAYS plays hard
2.Predictably he has to be a threat to score .
3. Why? He's not a facilitator nor is he a defender so attacks defense w drive
I did not see this game but I'm always going to defend n e t o

He very obviously should be on the tank. I think of course you're right he is. ...and it is the smartest thing I've ever seen the Wizards do.mhd wrote:I think Wes is on the tank. Ish was so much better than Neto tonight. Brought much needed energy and pure PG play. We need to hope we continue to lose. We could potentially get to the 6th worst record IMO (Indy, OKC, Houston, Orlando, and Detroit are lost causes).
The new goal should be playing everybody about 20 minutes and losing games like a mother but being as competitive as possible

<<<I didn't see anything but the only thing that jumps out at me and the boxing store is kcp had a lot of minutes but we already know what he's capable of>>>80sballboy wrote:nate33 wrote:I really liked Kispert's game tonight. 20 points on about 20 total seconds of possessing the ball.
Solid game even though his three-point shot still looks a little flat at times. Can't believe he played 35 minutes tonight. That's what we want to see from our younger players. But if you play him with KP and Kuz, I think he gets a lot of good looks. I could see him scoring 14+ the rest of the season if they start him at the 2 or 3. Zero reason to start KCP who was -16 tonight. Kispert was 0 (Deni was -14).
1.Per the box score i kind of wonder about KCP's minutes

Re: GT #55: Kings @ Bullets 7 PM (NBCSW/980 AM)
What I see is a team that is very capable of being cohesive and dangerous during the playoffs once everybody is at full strength but I think we're going to tank....80sballboy wrote:Funny how everyone, even Tony Massenburg, is talking about how we will be able to finish the games easier because we haven't played together much? Huh? It's been about 50 games. We have no Beal and no point guard. That's going to get exploited every game. If they really want to win, less Neto and more Deni at the point when KP and Gafford return. Bryant should play a few minutes here and there.
The number one prime directive should be tank games to get the highest draft pick because Jabari Smith or Chet Holmgren or maybe two or three other players are going to be a superstar
The secondary goal should be to just preserve the health of kristaps porzingis because that guy is an investment now.... whatever the Wizards medical staff says is what we do. If he is healthy and also the team does get the 10th playoffs spot ..... k p not to be confused with kcp can be a beast in the playoffs
Everything else has to do with playing this young roster to the fullest competitive juices to see which guys you want to invest in for the long run

I have never seen Winston play in the NBA but I remember him from Michigan State and they play defense at that school

He gotta start finishing with dunks though, his layups need an improvement in transition and overall.
Btw, i didn't like to see the line-ups of Deni and Neto last night. For 2 reasons - 1) Neto isn't a good defender as Deni is & doesn't have the physicality to guard big guys and to attack the rim against taller players. I remember too many easy buckets Neto gave with his mistakes. I liked very much Ish's defense last night compared to Neto's. Even if he's under-size, at least he's active and knows where to be at the right time. 2) When you play Deni at the forward and let him stand in the corner, you make him an off-ball player, you loses his advantages of Playmaking the game, passing skills and the choice making.
Still, in the positive side of everything, the team's moving the ball well and everybody get to eat from the cake. That's a good and healthy sign for a team.

I don't think Avdija is just standing around in the corner. He is getting a lot of on-ball opportunities. All the forwards get the opportunity to catch the ball, set picks, do the dribble-handoff thing, and when appropriate, keep it and make a drive to the basket. I think Avdija is being utilized just fine. I realize that Avdija is a capable ball-handler, but I haven't yet seen enough to believe he is a true primary ball handler who should be consistently bringing the ball up the court and running pick-and-roll like a PG. Offensively, he's more Draymond Green than Luka Doncic. At least for now at this stage in his development.
I agree that Ish looked real good on D with his active hands. At some point soon, he should probably be moved to starting PG. I can't hate Wes Unseld Jr. for declining to do so in his first day with the team.

Indeed. Let’s not forget we need to play Neto significant minutes to guarantee the tank!
