I believe regular season and playoffs should be considered the primary celebrated record. I’ll never understand why regular season is treated as the main record.

I am an All Time LBJ hater, but congrats-that is an awesome achievement and he is still going strong. Could he hit 50,000 total points??

But seriously, I am talking about NOW. Who cares if he is breaking scoring records when his team may not even make the playoffs.

Is that not the definition of empty stats??

I didn't know MJ was putting up 3k+ empty stat points in his last 2 seasons.

I'm a certified LeBron hater but imagine talking empty stats this season for a career achievement. Pick your moments it just makes you look dumb as ****.

For the full list, see here: https://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/pts_career_c.html

With more than 44k points - and with him still scoring at an incredible rate - its hard to believe any of us will live long enough to see it broken

LeBron got there in 1,616 games compared to 1,797 for Kareem. The sustained excellence of both players is truly remarkable - the equivalent of scoring 2,000 points for 22-seasons or 2,500 points for more than 17-seasons.

So raise a glass to LeBron James - the most prolific scorer in NBA history!

Raising a glass!
Fantastic achievement. I agree, I don't think any of us will be around to see that broken.
Hopefully he has plenty more buckets in him, I'm sure he has plenty more records in him, that's for sure.

if we are just talking durability there is no comparison in his sport. Lebron, Brady and Ripken.

It's playoffs+regular season combined, which is stat that typically doesn't get a lot of attention.

And it probably should. I think it's an even more unbreakable stat because nobody is touching his playoff scoring record for awhile. Durant is the next closest and he's still more than a Steph Curry playoff career away from LeBron.

He's 6th all time in playoff ppg AND he's played longer than everybody else. Which is what makes his record untouchable for awhile.

Also: he did it on nearly 200 less games.

Yes Lebron teams have never been busted for cheating

What about Spygate? Anyone debunk that one?

The Patriots, a team tom brady was on, were caught breaking NFL rules and spying on other teams; his team cheated to get a competitive advantage. Maybe he doesn't win his first 2-3 superbowls without that info they gained in similar incidents. Nobody knows.

IMagine if we found out in previous seasons that Lebron won championships with (Miami, cleveland or Lakers) he had spy cameras in opposing teams gyms

So yeah I totally agree that Lebron isn't Brady.

Then it’s a good thing for LeBron that he’s won more playoff games than anyone else in NBA history.

What a shock he's won the most games; he's played the most games in NBA history in the playoffs, too, due to massive playoff expansion compared to when Kareem et. all played their primes.

Yet, his actual winning percentage among all players in the playoffs is 19th all time.

Re: Playoff Expansion:

Give Kareem another 2-8 games a year every single year from 1970-1989 in the playoffs (except 1975-1976 when he was on awful teams) and he blows Lebron James out of the water in career totals in the playoffs:

1970-1974: No first round.
1975-1983: First round is three games.
1984-1989: First round is only 5 games, not seven.

2004-Present: Far more games, far more bad and .500 level teams in the playoffs.

Lebron's teams are 13-0 in the first round of the playoffs, career.

That's 62 of 266 career games for Lebron racking up padding stats against teams that don't really belong in the playoffs (have zero chance of winning the championship, (which is supposed to be what the playoffs are meant to determine).

Any reason why the NBA didn't pay any attention to one of the greatest individual achievements a player can reach without so much as a tweet about it? They did LeBron wrong on this one. This is actually a bigger achievement than having the all-time record in the regular season, as playoffs are more meaningful points anyway. All these meaningless stats about triple-doubles with random-ass stats get more attention than this. Shame on the NBA.

See my last post in this thread.

People are probably aware the LeBron mopped up against very weak teams, played in a garbage division for 15 seasons, and had 5+ extra games every single year of his career (for 15 seasons) in the playoffs, vs Kareem, because of massive playoff expansion, to rack up counting totals.

lebron is 3rd in the nba in career regular season minutes played and 1st in combined. it's incredible how well he is still playing. way better than either karl malone or kareem at the same point in their careers, minutes wise and even age wise too.

if he avoids serious injury and decline (big if), he could catch kareem on regular season points too. that would be unbelievable.
