I'm not saying you are doing this, but I've seen other posters doing this so let's just be absolutely clear on this.

Kareem came into the league at 22 and LeBron came into the league at 19. Anyone comparing by the year in the league instead of the age is usually giving a misleading stat. LeBron isn't going to be averaging 29 when he's 40 and mind you he wasn't averaging 29 until trainwreck showed up. Dude was averaging 25 for two years in a row and then he and AD lobbied to get someone that in the least seems to give LeBron more offensive opportunities. His age was already showing though.

Then it’s a good thing for LeBron that he’s won more playoff games than anyone else in NBA history.

What a shock he's won the most games; he's played the most games in NBA history in the playoffs, too, due to massive playoff expansion compared to when Kareem et. all played their primes.

Yet, his actual winning percentage among all players in the playoffs is 19th all time.

https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/player-with-the-highest-winning-percentage-in-the-playoffs-min-100-games-played

That actually makes it more impressive. He’s played almost 100 more playoff games and his winning percentage is only 1.2% lower than Jordan’s. Additionally, his playoff winning percentage is higher than Kareem’s, and it’s also higher than Bill Russell’s the ultimate winner in many people’s eyes. Not too shabby. Plus, the list of guys ahead of him is full of role players and fringe stars. Steph, Magic, James Worthy, and Jordan are really the only four stars ahead of him.

So, LeBron now has the most combined points n the history of the NBA, and that supposedly makes him the GOAT - Since he also has (by a large margin), the most turnovers in the history of the NBA wouldn't that make him the worst player to have ever played? Think about it, noboby has ever lost the ball more times than LeBron. That's pretty bad.

I dont understand why people are trying to downplay this. Lebron will, bearing anything crazy unforseen happening, end up number 1 in the history of the league in scoring. A record that Kareem has held for 30+ years, a record that hasnt even come close to being topped in that time even tho we've seen some pretty amazing scorers (MJ/Kobe/KD/Malone..etc).

It's an amazing achievement for one of the 2 legit GOAT candidates i've seen in my life

He's not the GOAT.

That's the only point I'm making, comparing him to KAJ, with full historical context.

Maybe Kareem and the Lakers should have avoided winning their conference on order to play first round series' instead of getting a bye.

Funny how you mention how bad the Eastern conference was as if the 80's West Kareem played in was the definition of high quality competition.

As to KAJ coming out of high school, he gets 3 more physical prime years. That would help him a lot more than losing rate and volume his last 3 years, which weren't very good anyway, especially by his standards. It's a lot harder when you're not spending millions a year on your body, alone, with a personal entourage. This is why nobody lasted nearly as long during his career vs. LeBron's.

And also...since when is providing full historical context "bashing"? Re: Playoff games available for both players, career? And, Haywood vs. The NBA and HS Drafts?

And, also, for every Lebron Thread that casts (appropriate) shade on his career and records here, there are about 20 Lebron Stan/Fapping Threads.

The (blind) worship about/total obsession over of this guy here is, frankly, paranormal.

Lebron scores the most of all time
Response from a Paranormally obsessed fan "what a great accomplishment"
Response from a totally normal person "I have to write multiple paragraphs and post twice as much as anybody else in this thread to show how obssesesed his fans are"

because thats been the convention for decades. this is not even hating lebron you cant just change rules for him because now he is going to claim the goat.

I’ve been saying this as long as I have been aware that these career records are discussed primarily as regular season achievements. I don’t say this because of Lebron, because I actually don’t like Lebron and don’t consider him GOAT. I also assume it is convention because the NBA back in the day wanted to celebrate some individual (not sure which one). But everywhere else, we talk about “Playoffs are where it really matters,” so it is just a bit silly to me that career accumulated stats is the one place we seem to ignore this.

The one thing I can never shake off: a 73 win team went crying to Durant to sign with them so they could beat lebron. That says so much about Lebron that a team who won 73 games knew it needed even more to beat him .

The Warriors used their cap space legally to sign Durant. They lost in the finals that year, had to do something to improve.

I giggle every time I see someone says "73 wIn TeAm sIgNeD DuRaNt". The NBA is about championships. What did you expect them to do?

Because it's two separate segments of the season, with the amount of playoff games you play -- i.e. opportunities to pile up cumulative stats -- being hugely influenced by factors outside your control, including how good your teammates/coaches/front office are. Case example: Kobe Bryant is one of them more successful playoff players of all time, but in his two best individual seasons his team was bounced in the first round both times with a total of 12 games played. But every single player in the league has an opportunity to play an 82-game regular season, so it stands to reason that this is the standard.

Brady’s longevity and playing to 44 is impressive, but if durability is what we’re talking about how is it not Favre? 321 consecutive games played, in an era where QBs were actually allowed to get hit

Brady plays the most important position in football and he did it better for longer than anyone else in NFL history. No one in team sports is as good as he was.

No one said this made him the GOAT, but it seems that you might think it gets him closer to it. You’re projecting some major insecurities
