Last paragraph: "Sources told Wojnarowski this week that Beal's agent, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, met with owner Ted Leonsis and general manager Tommy Sheppard to discuss the three-time All-Star's future and the franchise's plans for constructing a roster."

There's a thread on the Trade Board titled: "What would you have given for Porzingis?" Basically, Dallas fans wanted to know what better deals might have been out there rather than eating the crap sandwich that Sheppard fed them. The response was basically crickets. People offered to take on Porzingis' deal if Dallas threw in a pick, but nobody offered any positive value. The closest thing to neutral was that Toronto might have offered Dragic, Boucher and Birch, but they were too close to the luxtax threshold to make it work.

So I don't think unloading Porzingis will be so easy. The good news is that at least he is young, and he only has two years left on his deal. And he seems to play better without Doncic than with him.

Wall Schmall -- what's with this?

We are rebuilding. The 2000 teens are gone. Long gone.

I wan to trade Beal for salary cap space. We can do that by just letting him walk, sort of?

The offseason plan seems to be to fill the PG position and develop Deni, Rui and Kispert. If we are lucky we could possibly hit a home run with a high draft pick, but assuming that doesn't happen, our future will come down to how our draft picks improve. I don't see us drafting a pg to start unless he's just an absolute stud. I also think that Beal will stay but take less than the supermax.

This team has a chance to be solid. How much chemistry will Beal and Porzingis have (can Porzingis stay healthy)? Who do we get to be our starting pg? How do our draft picks develop? And how high of a draft pick will we get.

Why in the world would you think this?

After all the a$$-kissing this team has done with Beal, do you really think they're going to play hardball in the summer?

Yes. But if that's a massive waste of an asset. If the plan was to turn him into cap space, we surely could have traded him at the deadline for expiring contracts AND picks.

For sure it won't be easy -- most likely it won't be possible. But... at least we should try! :)

Basically we traded a smaller, longer-term untradable contract (Bertans) plus a probably untradable contract (Dinwiddie) for a larger but also untradable contract (Porzingis). We saved $17+m in the process, & we also gained flexibility, b/c Porzingis has a shorter contract.

What we did not do is acquire a good player, nor someone who is going to suddenly become good -- Porzingis ain't either of those things.

So... in a sense we also made a bet that neither Bertans nor Dinwiddie would return to form. This aspect of the move shouldn't be overlooked, because if both of them do, then it will turn out to have been a bad trade, & if either of them does, it'll start looking more or less neutral.

& that's why we should at least try to move Porzingis this off season.

Not based on the trade it doesn't.

But, it does make the rebuild a little easier, because it shortens our commitments to guys who are neither young nor good.

I think Porzingis is overpaid relative to his production, but I don't think it's fair to say that he is not good.

Over the past 3 years, he has averaged 23.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.0 blocks per 36 on a TS% of .563. But he posts that slightly above league average TS% while playing out on the perimeter, which opens up opportunities for others to take higher percentage shots around the rim. He's essentially playing almost exactly like Bryant this season in terms of shooting efficiency and shot profile, only he is doing so on much higher volume, with better rebounding and much better defense.

Basically, Porzingis looks like a legit starter to me - solid numbers, albeit not exceptionally efficient, but with good rim protection. Certainly, a mere starter shouldn't be making $33M a year, but it's better than paying $32M a year to two guys who weren't playing starter caliber ball.

One thing to note…. We’ve heard the name Porzingis for quite a few years, and it would make it seem like he is much older than he really is . He is 25y.o. That’s about average in nba terms. If he can be utilized well, and he stays injury free to the point where we get >60 games out of him, then we may have something good on our hands.

Because he wants to win and he understands optics. It's still going to be a massive contract but I expect it to be less than the super max. We will see. You make it sound crazy but it really isn't that crazy lol.

Gilbert Arenas is accepting less money from the Washington Wizards, invoking an attitude far, far removed from the world of his working-class fans. "What can I do for my family with $127 million that I can't do with $111 million?" he told The Washington Post.
The unpredictable three-time All-Star point guard, in vintage Agent Zero fashion, told the Post and the Washington Times on Thursday that he has agreed to re-sign for $111 million over six years, considerably less than the maximum deal he said the Wizards offered him when the free agency period began on Tuesday.

I think I said it above.

Give Bradley the supermax
Let West junior coach the team
Listen to medical staff concerning Christopher zinger's healt

This team is going to take on a new identity soon and I think we need to just be cautious lay optimistic

Yes based on the trade. There's only so many ways to get good players. Either you draft them. You trade for them. Or you sign them in free agency. If Porzingis was a great player we wouldnt have been able to trade for him. The hope is that he turns it around in DC. And before you say that it is impossible, it has happened before. The dude is only 26. And this is a profoundly better strategy than trading Porzingis to a team like that Lakers that has no assets or young players.

Agreed.

Pau Gasol was good Not great before the Lakers got him. Under Kobe Bryant he became better. Porzingis is going to play his best and will solidify his legacy, hopefully, as a Wizards player.

Ok, so I'm thinking at Center we have Porzingis backed up by Gafford, with Carey as 3rd. Bryant seems odd man out?

Rui and Kuz at forwards. Give us size, length, defense, rebounding, scoring to compliment Porzingis. Beal at SG. Deni, KCP, Kispert off the bench. Possibly retain Ish and Neto for bench depth. Also potential bench guys in Gil, Todd, Ayayi, Winston.

Really the one and only glaring hole is starting PG.
