Goran Dragic, Spurs Agree To Buyout

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Feb 15, 2022 2:22 pm

When the San Antonio Spurs acquired Goran Dragic at last week's trade deadline, it was expected the veteran's stay in San Antonio would be a short one. Less than a week after the deadline, the Spurs and Dragic have agreed to a contract buyout.

Multiple teams are expected to pursue Dragic's services when he clears waivers. He's been linked to several playoff contenders, most recently the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks.

Dragic played in just five games for the Toronto Raptors this season, after being a part of the sign-and-trade that sent Kyle Lowry to the Miami Heat. In his last full season with the Heat, Dragic averaged 13.4 points and 4.4 assists in 26.7 minutes per game, mostly off of Miami's bench.

Who knows, maybe they could be a .500 team with him.

No one should sign with the Lakers, at least if they’re serious about winning.

Milwaukee might have high interest with the departure of Divincenzo and recent injury to Connaughton. He has a history of playing well with his Slovenian countryman Luka. And his heart might still be in Miami, where he has been seen recently at a Heat game and working out with Markieff Morris. I think the clearest pathway for playing time could be in Dallas.

Don't know how much Dragic has left in the tank to make a difference wherever he goes.

Celtics and Lakers both possibly offering him the starting role. Celtics in time of course with the streak. He should go fix the Lakers.

Couldn't see us offering him the starting role.
We like to start with 2 bigs, but if we don't do that, White would move into the starting lineup.

Still, we could use a PG. He doesn't fit with our defensive principles, but as a second unit leader/creator he makes sense.

I don't think he'd pick us out of his options, though.

They're the three teams I would have thought most likely, and I'd probably lean Milwaukee right now as my favourite, mostly just due to the combination of potential opportunity, plus potential ring.

Probably will come down to Milwaukee and Dallas.
