My thoughts....
1) How did we ever overcome the force that is Dante Divincenzo? The guy bucks fans told us was equal to Kyrie + Harden? Amazing effort to overcome such a god like player
2) Curry was fantastic and its clear he can handle it as the pick and roll ball handler or play off ball. That should work seamlessly with Kyrie and KD who often operate better as off ball aggressive scorers.
3) I dont love Drummond. I question his sustained effort and what has always concerned me was his inability to play a role. Not to be confused with unwillingness. Like I dont think he is upset or needs to feel like a star. But he always seemed to do to much when he had the ball. That was not the case tonight. If he can find a way just play his role he could be a plus. Blake said something that had me surprised. He said he has great hands defending the pick and roll. i brushed it off as fluff, but then last night he had 2-3 deflections and a steal off it.
My father in law is a HS referee in CT for 40+ years. He officiated almost all of Drummonds high school games and is a season ticket holder for UCONN and in general huge Drummond fan. he doesnt have an NBA just follows drummond. He said his skill level is underrated. That his hands for a big and skill for a big are unique. points out he is just 26 (i think he is actually 28 but you get the idea) and still time for him to find his best niche.
Like all players i hate on before coming here (Blake, LMA, Cam Thomas) I'll give him a fair share before making judgement but im being cautiously optomistic. I dont value rebounding like.. at all but again my Father in law made a good point... "Extra possession for KD are a much higher value then extra possessions for some bum in detroit" So his rebounding may have more value here then most places.
His screens need some work, he is a big body. he could be an elite screener. he is just an ok one. In either even, its nice not to get bullied.
4) Brown looked great. Johnson looked solid. LMA looked great. When role guys are put back in roles they tend to be the best version of themselves. Having depth of actualy NBA starters goes a long way. We saw Patty become lethal the few games we had the big 3. getting wide open threes instead of off balance fade aways.
This team with the new Big 3 + Curry/Mills/Harris is going to have some stretches of white hot three point makes with the open looks. I dont think we can start it but im amped for a 5 minute stretch of Mills - Kyrie - Curry - Harris - KD.
5) This is what we should have done to sacramento last time. If nash would have just got his crap together and sat a clearly injured and disinterested harden that would have been a blowout win as well.
Glad the losing streak is over. The future looks alot less rocky and the team seems really happy since the trade. Kyrie seems in mid season form. a near road win over miami and a win to end the streak is a breath of fresh air. Seeing harden being legit injured and not signing his extension in Philly makes me feel alot better about no having him longterm here
