So Jokic has
2 game winning assists
3 game winning blocks
2 game winning assists
3 game winning blocks

Re: 2021-22 NBA MVP Discussion (Pt.2)
Its a 3 man race at the moment. The thing that keeps it interesting is how the 3 of them seem to do a great job at one upping each other over and over again. Ya I know the 6ers just got crushed, but we can all point to at least 1 real bad game for all these guys so far this year. 1 really bad game doesnt automatically take you out.
I really wont be shocked if it just comes down to who has the hottest final month of the season between the 3 guys.
And ya no doubt DeRozan deserves an honorable mention. But ya the other 3 have just been on a different level all year long.

Re: 2021-22 NBA MVP Discussion (Pt.2)
I think people are disregarding team record when historically that plays a huge part in MVP voting.
As of now, I believe it's between Giannis and DeRozan based on both being on top 3 seeded teams, and of course DeMar willing the Bulls to a 1 seed with a bench full of g-leaguers. You could also throw Steph in there but his numbers have declined as of late. Embiid's team is 5th and Jokic 6th. Although Jokic has a better argument than Embiid considering he's been playing with far less talent.

I think the Westbrook win kind of rocked that team record narrative a bit, if the circumstances are there. Jokic is putting up similarly-insane numbers and if the Nuggets win 48-50 games with Murray and Porter basically missing the whole season, it's hard to see how it's not him.
DeRozan has no chance - as good as he has been, you're never going to win an MVP when there's a legitimate argument that you're not even the best player on your team.

Nobody else compared. Like at all.

You can't argue it.
Youre delusional. Their stats are damn near even across the board. Bucks only 1 game ahead even tho 30 million for Philly in Ben has been out the whole year.
Bucks are 5-6 without Giannis. Sixers are 4-8 without Embiid.

Jokic told Monte be ready for the shot in the time out. No look pass to Monte for the win. This man's IQ is off the charts. Jokic knew they would collapse on him. It is crazy all three are trying to top each other

I’ve said this a million times. You can’t fault Jokic for seeding when literally the three best teams are all in the west. Put Denver in the East and they’re right in the thick of things there too with a chance for a top 3 seed.

Giannis is top 3 in DPOY race and leads Embiid in all advanced stats. Seems pretty obvious to me.

Love the last thing he said about Jokic's attitude: "It's the team [first], then him. That's why I love playing alongside him."

Bucks have also played the entire season without a championship center (or any center). Not having 7 foot Brook Lopez next to you (instead it's 6-10 forward Portis filling in, and lately 6-10 Monroe on a ten-day, and now 6-10 Ibaka), yet Giannis still putting up numbers and team with a winning record, even though he shoulders more of the burden at the center position than he should.
And this is not to argue one over the other, it's just to reiterate that all 3 candidates are doing amazing things with depleted rosters.

Derozan should be in the conversation of a top 3 MVP candidate.
MVP isn't awarded for 6 good games.

The problem that deRozan has is just that he is competing against some of the greatest seasons we have ever seen. He's been great all year long.
He is in that 2nd tier with Doncic,Paul, Curry and Morant.

MVP.
Nuggets were 1w5l this season without Jokic;
Warriors were 2w3l without Curry;
76ers were 4w8l without Embiid;
Bucks were 5w6l without Giannis;
Grizzles were 12w2l without Morant;

LaVine played 47 games putting up pretty identical stats to DeRozan. You've got an 18/12 multiple all-star Center as a 3rd option.
I'd agree with Derozan being a top 3-4 candidate if Lavine missed half the season and was putting up 19-20 ppg or something, but they were literally neck and neck for scoring leader of Bulls until recently lol. You might have people looking at it as a KD/Curry situation (though obviously not as good as either player) where they're too similar in terms of impact to say "Ahh ok we're gonna give this guy a bunch of votes despite him having a similar impact player on his team".
Also, seeding IMO should have zero bearing on MVP. Team record, sure, but seeding can really discriminate against players in a top heavy conference. For example, the Bulls before today would have been the 5th best record in NBA (while being 1st in the East).

Too bad Giannis has no media-pushed narrative for like 2 seasons now.
But I'd be totally fine with any of these 3 players winning it. Fantastic, all-time seasons by all.
Giannis has more talent and is a 5 seed. He doesn't deserve it over Embiid.
They are a 3rd seed..

Tomorrow 76ers vs. Bucks is a must watch game.
Currently Giannis is slightly better across board, but one L might change a lot of things below:
Giannis 48g,11.3r/6.0a/29.4p in 32:36, team 36w23l, 3rd seed
Embiid 45g, 11.1r/4.5a/29.3p in 32:50, team 34w23l, 5th seed

Three dudes putting legendary seasons, I have a **** of money on the line with Giannis but still not going to get all partisan here. Happy to appreciate a trio of giants dominating. Great time to be a fan of basketball.

At this point I think a top seeded team is just a narrative talking point just like the phrase "two way player". Who cares if you are a #1 seed when you are a team that has a 0 SRS, or a #1 seed that nobody is picking to win the title. If you are a number 1 seed and that's the equivalent of a 5th seed in another conference I can't take your winning narrative seriously.
The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player

Re: 2021-22 NBA MVP Discussion (Pt.2)
These guys are not in the run only for an accolade. They are establishing legacies. And they are so young.
Jokic should get it to be the next one with 2 consecutive. It's rare accomplishment, legacy defining.
Even if Denver doesn't get too far in the playoffs, Niko will be acknowledged as an all time great. The last center who managed to have at least 2 MVPs was Moses Malone...
If I'm Giannis and i have to pick, the choice is obvious.
Get the DPOY dude..
Much more rare to accomplish.
MJ only has 1, so does KG or D-Rob
Duncan, Kobe, LeBron never got one.
KD will never get close to that.
If he gets it he will be the only one with 2 MVPs and 2 DPOYs. Still 27(...)
It can be a historic season in terms of accolades for these two.
If Embiid gets it, it will also be fair. It will finally give to Embiid something to show against the likes of Giannis, Jokic and Gobert.
It will pay justice to him and the Sixers franchise will know that at least the centerpiece of the Process isn't wasted like everything else from that era.
And next season maybe AD realizes that he has fallen behind these guys and try to re-establish his legacy.
In the era of the guards, it will be the bigs that will dominate once again.
PS. Much respect to DeRozan and CP. They round up my top5, since Steph is clearly out.
