This was the worst loss of the season. Worse then that losing to the clippers G-league squad when we were up 10 in the 4th. Just a horrible horrible loss. How do you lose to a Wizards team on the second of a back-to-back on the road, missing their 2 best players and who played a terrible game. my digusted thoughts...
1) THE WIZARDS PLAYED AWFUL!!! Sometimes bad teams play well and you tip your cap. not the case. The Wizards had 6 or 7 passes they threw into like the 8th row for a turnover. They stepped out of bounds negating a 3 point make 3 or 4 times. They played a lazy zone for almost the entire game. They had little energy being on the road for the second of a back to back and it showed.
2) Nash was terrible. this has to be the 8th or 9th loss that is 100% on him. Just horrific coaching. Why are we helping of shooters? Why are we helping at all? like who is the guy on this G-league wizards team you are scared is going off for 30 points if you dont send help? Are you really concerned about a Gill or Bryant post up? Neto killing us scoring off the dribble? We gave Kispert, an elite shooter open look after open look after open look so we could help on advila drives or gafford paint touches. Make awful players beat your 1 on 1.
We also switched almost nothing. Again, what mismatch are you worried about? Neto beating brown or drummond off the dribble? Bryant overpowering curry down low? like make the switch and live with it. we gave up like 50 paint points on wide open roll dunks on bad drop coverage.
Curry drains a pair of threes to cut a 12 point lead to 6. he sits and we dont see him again until midway through the 4th. Why do we consistently cool off our hot players?
Why are we playing Blake at PF. it didnt work game 1 and it hasnt worked for 1 second since. stop with this trash.
3) Drummond was missed a ton of times with his man pinned down and a mismatch. Especially in the 1st half. They didnt have any since. we should have abused them inside. this should have been a 20/20 type game from drummond... but we would rather let bruce brown be a play making PG then attack a mismatch. Drummond was clearly frustrated and reverted to the guy i was worried about... the guy who cant play a role if he doesnt get the ball and starts forcing dumb nonsense. Again a coaching failure mostly.
4) Why did we constantly sit patty and Curry at the same time? Brown/blake/LMA lineups wont work with shooting let alone with both our snipers on the bench.
5) How do you not challenge the clear out of bounds on advila in the 4th when the Wiz were pulling away to a 10 point lead? that possesion mattered more then hoping there is a better chance to challenge later.
6) our home crowd is the most pathetic in the league. we had more noise at MSG last night. We finally tie the game and the pipe in the defense chant and you can maybe here 2 fans chanting defense. Nets marketing team is awful. like we dont even have band wagon fans. give tickets away if you have to.
It sucks because no matter how well the new guys fit and play with have no chance to win a title with Nash. If he cant beat an awful wizards team at home while their on the second of a back to back and played an awful game then there is no game we can trust him to win.
Marks needs to be fired. Nash needs to go with him. Marks hiring and not firing nash is worse then any move in our NBA history. worse then anything billy king did by far. it undoes anything he did to rebuild us.
F you marks and double F you nash.

Panic and drastically overhelp to try and make sure a terrible player doesnt hit a 2-point against one-on-one coverage while leaving an elite shooter wide open.
Nash shocked it didnt work, blames "tired legs"

They are just jumping the dribble hand offs.... since its all we do. ive said it for weeks. its super predictable. and its our only offense outside of just handing it to someone to iso.
We do nothing to make teams work or switch or thing, or help

No.
They had wide open shooters because we constantly helped anytime the ball went below the free throw line. this wasnt the ball swinging 3 to 4 times around the horn. it was drive/post up followed by massive over helping and makin 1 easy pass to the wide open shooter.... and even then what did they through 7 balls into the stands? 8?
Wizards did nothing tonight that was impressive. they played terrible. Which is what makes this loss even worse... not only could we beat a bad team on a back to back at home but we couldnt beat them we they played terrible

I dont think we would beat them even at full strength. Nash and this coaching is just too much to overcome. Lets not forget we were losing to awful teams like the clippers G-league squad with KD and Harden(who was playing well at the time)... and got beat by every .500+ team we faced.
There just isnt enough talent to overcome that. we had barely enough to overcome it with Kyrie/KD/Harden all playing at their peak. we wont have enough now. Nash makes everyone 20-30% worse. We do nothing to maximize KD... we make him take hard shots everytime down. mid-baseline post pull up with late help after he gets bodied. double or tripple cross mid range pull ups. we get him nothing easy... biggest mismatch in the league and we cant get him anything easy... and we cant use his gravity to get others anything easy.
With Simmons, good god... he is going to put him in awful spots that hurt our spacing. its going to make ben the worst version of himself.
He is going to again revert to "we have to win with defense" which may have worked in the 90s but not enough today.
its bad. its really really bad

We were overcoming it all season with KD.
I think we can start winning again if hes back. Simmons instantly makes our defense 10x better. Regardless of Nash. He can just shut people down.

Yeah most nights KD is enough to help us scrape by the pelicans and pacers. but not good teams and definitely not over 7 games with coaching adjustments even more important.
Nash needs to go for us to even get to the ECF let alone compete for a title.

Imagine thinking that leaving NBA players wide open to shoot uncontested 3s is a viable strategy
I always notice that Steve Trash's two defenders on here are always loud after wins but silent after losses.
Also, shout out to Kyrie.

There was no need to help on even 1 possesion tonight.
The problem was we were playing LMA at C when they were playing Rui at C. We were constantly in scramble mode because he couldn't guard anyone on the floor. Then to make it worse, we constantly had Curry or Patty on their big wings and they were getting REALLY deep position in the paint. It's one thing to not help in a 1v1 post up but when guys are getting layups, you need to send help.
And their PGs were 12 for 17 on mostly tough shots. We just couldn't get stops at any level. We should've just switched everything and forced them to go 1v1 vs Aldridge or Drummond.
I think guys played hard so I'm not even that mad. I think we've all accepted that this team isn't winning anything unless we're at full strength. And we probably won't win 1 back to back this year.

Yeah, my issue isnt more i dont think we can win when healthy. Like i cans ee Kyrie/KD combining for 75-80 points in a loss. The coaching deficiet is just too much to overcome. I don't think its hyperbole to say our coaching costs us 10-20 points per game. Thats tough to overcome

The Wizards always beat us. They are our kryptonite.
At the end of the day, winning the ship is all that matters. These regular season losses won't matter if the Nets hold that Larry O'Brien.
