Atleast the winter olympics are fun. Summer Olympics is some of the most boring **** i've ever watched.

js I don't think it's ever weak or a problem to be on the meds, sometimes you just need them to stop stuff getting worse while you chart your way through. You're a good man, and I'm sure you're a great Dad.
Believe me, as much as I hate that any of you may be going through ****, selfishly I admit I have a little comfort knowing I'm not alone in what the last couple years have done to everyone on some level. I don't even have it bad compared to so many I know and have read about. My brain has just been screaming otherwise for a while now and I haven't been able to tell it otherwise.
But like you said, it does help to write it out, read it and process it. Putting it out there in a somewhat logical progression helps.
Very much love to all of you who have been going through your own ****. Like I said, you're not alone and you're loved. You've got friends.
Its not selfish to feel some comfort that you aren't alone in this mess. I feel some guilt when I feel down too, financially we are in the best place we've ever been, my wife is kicking arse in her job and my kids are doing really well in school and sport. And then people around me have lost jobs, been forced to close businesses and all the other pandemic issues. I also feel guilty for committing to study which has destroyed my spare time...
But I've been isolated socially and haven't had heaps of stuff to look forward to. Thinking about work constantly is very much contributing to this. Oh well, 2 years to go! I need to make an effort to do stuff I enjoy. My 10 year old has suggested more regular trips to do trail runs/parkruns, which really excites me. I run a lot but have been doing it more out of habit than for enjoyment.
Thanks for everyone contributing to this. You are all good people, you are all important. Chats like this really show why.

Gimme all the skiing. Downhill, Slalom, Cross-country. Other than that, bored to tears by the winter olympics. I was really excited to watch and then realized over the last couple weeks it's mostly junk. To me anyway.
I really dislike anything that requires judges. That goes for the summer games too of course. Seems to me there's more of it in the winter games though. I strongly prefer stuff judged by a clock.

This is probably not a good time to think about it until you can mentally prepare for it but when was the last time you got out of town? Like take a real vacation? Is there anyone you can visit that you would be comfortable with?

Re: OT: General OT Thread [NO POLITICS OR RELIGION]
Poto became the latest tribe to come to an agreement on sports betting in WI. There's still a 45 day federal review but that should be a formality since Oneida went through the same thing last year. It looks like you will have to be onsite at the casino to make bets. I wish there was an app to bet remotely but I'll enjoy making wagers from time to time, especially football. Poto expects to open their sports book in Milwaukee by the end of the year. I'm sure they'd like to get it going by football season.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Any chance they partner with an existing online service to provide it for WI residents? I have zero idea how that stuff all works, and it's probably not a bad thing if I can't just start randomly betting on games from my couch.

It's my understanding that the agreement the tribes have reached allows only onsite betting. Not remote. Maybe the tribes don't want to compete with each other, I don't know. But I think they'd all make more if they allowed remote like most states do.

That’s what I was thinking/hoping for. If they don’t want to compete, which is cool with me, a smaller piece of an additional pie is better than all of nothing.

Re: OT: General OT Thread [NO POLITICS OR RELIGION]
I just read the last pages of this thread and want to react on one quote:
Nobody wants medicine, but be aware millions of people need medicine every day. It's not a bad thing. Modern society wants you to believe you need to be perfect (without meds). But it's fake. Life can be difficult because of all kind of circumstances. Be greatful there are meds that can help you deal with difficulties or diseases. Ten years ago my steph son got anxiety disorder and chose death over pills. I'm sure it could have helped if it isn't such a taboo to be reliant on meds.
I grew up with an older brother who had a difficult childhood and was later diagnosed with schizophrenia. Compared to him my life is great. I learnt to relativize from a young age. It's a blessing because it makes life so much easier. For me it's easy to be an optimist and deal with setbacks. But it's not for everyone unfortunately. So survive, use meds if needed and try to make small steps forward. Better days will come. As a Bucks fan you know.

I'm not a huge sports gambler, but I love a good sports book. I definitely seeing a few man dates next year where I just go with a friend to chill and bet.

It will be interesting to see if they build out a Vegas style sportsbook or just shoehorn in some betting windows. The Firepit sports bar would seem like the logical area to turn into the sports book. It would certainly benefit them to create something where fans want to spend an afternoon or evening watching games and betting rather than just making some bets and leaving.

I don't foresee them building a full-blown sportsbook. I've already seen homeless guys sit at the slots drinking free soda for hours while betting 1¢ per spin. I can picture dudes placing a min bet to sit there a whole chilly Sunday.
I think it would have to be an expanded Firepit where you need to be at a table eating, drinking, and running up a tab to sit and watch the games.

Most Vegas books now charge a fee and/or have some hefty minimums on NFL game days. They'll probably do something like that in the Firepit with some betting windows along the side.

I've been making various stocks once a month for a while and giving them away, and there's something super satisfying about putting a bunch of **** in a pot and knowing in eight hours it's gonna come out as liquid gold.

Re: OT: General OT Thread [NO POLITICS OR RELIGION]
Had no clue the Olympics ended. I wasn't watching religiously, but my wife was because she was a figure skater. I would sometimes have it on in the background while I worked during the day. Didn't see any luge, no male bobsled (saw women's single and double), no male speed skating, no cross country...
They need to just start showing all of the events, even the ones the US has no shot at medaling in.
Favorite moment was seeing the 40-year-old guy from the UP get the gold in snowcross.

I think they did a pretty good job this go around, which I don't say lightly as I have **** on NBC endlessly for their coverage before. USA was Olympics almost 24/7 for 20 days. CNBC was curling central and also had some cross country skiing and biathlon, but USA by and large was the 'live' network, starting at 6p every night and running until about 9a the next morning. Luge, bobsled, and speed skating was heavily back-loaded and mostly the past 3 days.
Loved that snowcross moment for sure. Also loved the team aerials, Chloe Kim going back-to-back, Birk Ruud's final big air run (he's already won gold, so he carried Norway's flag with him and honored his late dad during the jump), the one CC gold medalist who waited at the finish like 25 minutes for the guy in last to finish to congratulate him. My favorite moment though was Nathan Chen. I don't understand the details of figure skating, mostly just know spin = good and fall = bad, but his arc from last olympics to this olympics, then finishing his routine for gold with music in the background saying GOAT, was awesome.

Maybe it's because I'm in a much different stage of my life, but I literally did not actively watch a single winter Olympic event.

I watched a bit in the background, but really the only thing i had to see live was mens halfpipe finals.
