Trash take.

He's been a star coming into the league. He's figured out the NBA game. He'll pour it in. He has no fear even after a bad injury.

This is kind of a tough one. I mean, a guy carrying a young franchise on his back to the 3 seed in his 3rd year while putting up monster stats?

Reminds me a lot of KJ for the Suns in ways. He led them to the WCF his 2nd and 3rd years after they had won like 28 the year before when they traded for him as a rookie (traded Larry Nance for him). They even beat the defending champion Showtime Lakers in 5 in a year Magic was MVP in the semifinals his 3rd year.

He was never really considered a superstar, though beloved in Phoenix at the time.

Of course you had prime Magic, Bird (on the decline), Jordan about to dominate, winning scoring titles, and a lot of big names like Barkley in Philly, Dominique, Isaih, etc.

I think it's tough to become a superstar in a small market...unless you are LeBron or something. Was CP3 a superstar in New Orleans? He had them as a high seed..maybe like a 3 seed. Of course he wasn't putting up as monster stats or was as exciting but he was as effective. Melo in Denver kind of was but he had just won a national championship at Syracuse in NY too.

Nice stat, but

1) It's 2022, scoring efficiency has increased league-wide since anyone on that list was in their prime.
2) In order to be a superstar you have to be a two-way player (Or be so damn good one one side of the ball, it doesn't matter, i.e. Curry... and NO Morant does not have the offensive impact that Curry has, don't care what arbitrary stats you pull out, watch the games.)
3) He hasn't won a single playoff series.

He is still a top 25 player though, and if he can become a more consistent 2-way player, superstar is possible.

So Luka isn't a superstar?

Also, your little caveat would have some merit if there were other guys doing it in 2022.

It's a breakout season for him but he's not a superstar yet, no one officially becomes a superstar in less than a season of greatness.

Now if he continues and has some great playoff performances to solidify it, then we're talking.

Tired of the superstar label placed on these guys during the regular season. They gotta tear it up in the postseason as well, for me.

i'd be down to call him a budding superstar and let him earn the chance to take budding out of that title.

Last year, IN THE PLAYOFFS, Ja dropped 47 on Utah. And they were throwing the farm at him.

Ja is absolutely a superstar. The heck?

To me the difference between star and superstar is only fame. A star can be a better player then a superstar, to me the difference is outside of the court. A superstar is atleast to some extent known across the globe. Thats why young guys isnt superstars, it takes time to build.

So no, ja isnt a superstar yet. Maybe will be in a few years

He’s on the cusp. Won’t take much for him to be called a superstar and I wouldn’t argue against anyone that wants to say he is a superstar right now. He a legit MVP candidate right now.
