Big names are already making big money. I'm sure they have no problem sitting out and doing the league no favors

An extra few million is still a lot of money to these guys.

If they win.

These guys are just bad dunkers. Alot of the dunks have been done, but players can put their own stamp them. Lavine, wiggs, ja, ant, gordon etc.. these guys can even make basic dunks look good because they bring power, style, and a grace that makes their dunks look effortless.etc.. Hell, even their misses look good.

**** it, $10M plus runner up and participation money. The nba can afford it. It would be great for marketing if big names participate and the league will easily make that money back. Not from viewers from the weekend, but from overall interest in the league increasing.

people say the same thing every year lol.

With that said aside from the baseball one(which I don't even follow so no bias there) ALL of the all-star games and associated events for professional sports have been unwatchable for at least the last decade.

****, I didn't even watch the dunk contest.

TBH, I didn't even realize this is the all star weekend. I was about to open my nba app and check some game scores...

I have seen pretty much all of them since I started watching the NBA in 1979. That was easily the worst dunk contest ever in the NBA. There wasn't one really good dunk the entire night. It was frankly shameful and pathetic to watch. I fully expect a timer to be put back after that one idiot from Houston took about 29030900 attempts for one dunk.

Haha the exact same here. I didnt realize it was all star weekend until early today I was on here and saw on the wiretap that Cade won the Rising Stars MVP. Then completely forgot about the skills event until I was going through the guide and saw it was on. I tuned in just in time to see Cole Anthony taking his sweet time to change shoes in the middle of the dunk contest. Sadly that might have been the highlight of the contest...

I literally watched the entire event, except the dunk contest.

I knew it was going to be a let down, and I'm glad I skipped out on it.

Dunk contest definitely can be revived w someone doing a 360 somersault in the air before dunking.

I've heard it through the grapevine..NBA gods have already designated Los Angeles LAKERS as NBA Champions in near future. The destiny is real. TRUST ME.

Does anyone think it's possible for someone to do an actual full front flip dunk (without a trampoline of course)? I wonder what the pysics would be for that to happen? How high would they have to jump to even attempt that.
There are some amazing athletes out there, I wonder if we'll ever actual see one of them pull that off?
I remember when they started doing front flips in figure skating. At the time, people thought it was almost impossible, but then somoene did one, and suddenly a lot of people were. Obviously doing a flip while dunking a ball is not the same as doing a flip on the ice, but I do wonder if we will ever see it happen.
Tell you what, if they could, they would definitely win the Slam Dunk contest.

Lol I was just kidding.
But yeah. Sooner or later someone's going to run a 3 min mile, deadlift 700 kg, and front somersault dunk in basketball.

They should allow any NBA or G league player to try to sign up and send an audition tape or something to a selection panel. Somewhere there is this amazing dunker sitting on the bench, i dont care if hes not famous yet, but there has to be some guys that are really good dunkers in the league.

Can only assume the first 275 players on the list said no.

They had DeAndre Jordan in 2017, Drummond in 2016 and Oladipo in 2018. Not exactly the more popular All-Stars.

Haha Jordan and Drummond being in the dunk contest. But you know what, Id rather take bottom of the barrel all star big men in the dunk contest over scrubs like we had tonight.

Deandre was a few years too late. Some of his layup line stuff was crazy, 360 windmills and through the legs lobs. If he actually put some practice in and got to dunk a few years earlier he could’ve been good.
