If I did this at work, I'd be fired and facing an assault charge.

His team got wrecked. He got upset over a late timeout. He way overreacted. I expect a long suspension for sure, but this mixed with his poor performance this year...he may not survive this at Michigan.
Honestly should he survive this? They should fire any coach that hits or threatens to hit a fan or opponent. Howard is in a visible highly coveted leadership positions at an elite higher educational institution. You can’t slap someone out of frustration over losing a game or etiquette while in a role responsible for teaching. Howard has to go

#1, Howard just wanted to walk by in the hand shake line and Wisconsin's coach did make the first contact grabbing his arm. If Howard initiated everything I'd say send him packing. The fact that Wisconsin's coach made the first contact makes things a bit more unclear. I think it's at least a 5 to 10 game suspension on his part but I'm not 100% on board with him getting fired.

Cwebb's timeout now the 2nd most boneheaded thing a Fab Four has done?

I agree to be honest. I like Howard a lot but this was uncalled for, over the top and embarrassing on his part.
His presser afterwards I also think was wrong. He doesn’t care and was just defending his actions.

Agreed. I have never liked Juwon Howard especially when he took out Derek Anderson in the '01 playoffs. I thought it was dirty bush-league play that ended up separating Derek's shoulder. With that being said I can be fair and objective. The Wisconsin coach was an idiot for grabbing Juwon's arm. That is a very condescending to do to a grown man. I get him feeling disrespected by Juwon not wanting to shake his hand, but you just don't do that. He could have still yelled at Juwon for not wanting to shake his hand and I would have been fine with that.
Juwon on the other hand stupidly overreacted and slapped the wrong guy in hitting the assistant and not the head coach that initiated the whole incident. Juwon should get suspended for a few games, but I don't think he should be fired. The head coach of Wisconsin should be suspended for a game or two for initiating this mess.

This is Michigan...not some crappy program. They're not going to suspend him 5-10 games. The program is embarrassed and this school is too rich to put up with BS from a second rate HC.

I don’t see how Howard could expect to keep his job at Michigan and discipline the team going forward on sportsmanship and reckless behavior. If he losses this job and gets another coaching gig he can at least say, keep your cool and don’t be like me at Michigan because it cost me my job...use it as a teaching moment. If he keeps his job he will be reinforcing something else that we DONT want on the court...don’t make me spell it out to you guys

Someone touched him? Better start swinging and potentially start a brawl.
Howard was wrong for the swing but that Wisconsin coach has to keep his hands to himself. He blocked his path and everything. He was ready and itching to start it up himself
Exactly. It’s not just “someone touched him”, the other coach grabbed him and got in his face. He is the one who started it. Howard just finished it lol. That said, Howard probably needs fired as you just can’t swing as a coach and the other coach also needs disciplined and suspended for sure for starting this ish.

Again if he wanted the game to just run out, dont press, or excuse me let me use his terms, dont play 5 man pressure defense with your starters against the opposing team's backups. If youre doing that as a coach, that means youre still coaching up your players and playing hard. So dont get mad when the opposing coach calls a timeout to coach up his backups on how to break a press defense.
Weird how he says in his presser he didn't think the other team taking a timeout was "fair to our guys"...
Both teams get the same # of timeouts and can use them whenever they have possession. It's perfectly fair.
If you don't like it should have done something earlier to make them use their timeouts. Or tell your defense to backoff.
But whining that "it wasn't fair," yikes. Makes him look a cry baby imo.
I hope he apologized in his presser too and not just try to justify his clearly unacceptable actions.

This. By no means do I support what Howard did nor do I even endorse the idea of him being pissed over something as innocuous as a freaking timeout. However, Howard was ready to go about his way and Gard stepped into his path. It doesn’t justify Howard’s actions after the fact. But the narrative here is that Howard “caused” this and I call BS. Gard and his staff share some responsibility as well.
Grabbed him by the arm yanking him back and putting himself in Howard’s path and proceeds to smack his jaws. That’s three opportunities to stop or deescalate. Not an excuse for Howard. The coach he “punched” also came in really hot escalating the situation. There’s blame all around here.

What a punk Howard is. He's supposed to be a leader too. What a joke.

Not trying to be provocative but lotta good leaders are people who aren’t saintly and struggle with control sometimes. Makes them more releatable to young guys who are also a little raw emotionally or just generally hot tempered, shows that they understand it’s hard to keep cool and that they’re all trying to do that for the team and for their own personal growth etc. (Then again I work with people in prison and freshly out so maybe got a skewed perspective on leadership.)
Which leaders are you referring to? Genuinely interested to know.

I didn’t see it but it seems that Howard had starters pushing full court on D and the other coach, up big, called a timeout with a minute to go. If that’s the case I’m surprised at posters on here saying that’s a whatever. No. That BS. Game is over, if you haven’t coached up your bench on how to run out the clock that’s on you. You don’t call a timeout in that circumstance to teach them. Again, not an excuse for Howard’s later behavior. But that’s junk.

This makes Howard look very bad. He's about as clueless as they come and I won't be supporting him going forward. I hope Michigan fires him.Duke4life831 wrote:
