Always said this guy never deserved the opportunity he got. You just know NBA as the king of nepotism will probably hire him sooner or later..

1. Howard is a jackass.
2. Yes, which is why Michigan should have just let Wisconsin dribble out the clock like normal people instead of running a full court press with their starters against players who never play.

It has been interesting reading the takes from people who clearly didn't watch the game or bother to look into how things played out in the final minute.

That’s your opinion, which you are entitled to. But it still doesn’t change the fact this altercation probably could have been avoided had Gard just went about his way just as Howard was trying to go about his. He had no right to do what he did regardless of how much of a man you think Howard acts or doesn’t act like.

Again, Howard is VERY responsible for what transpired. But Gard isn’t innocent as this BS narrative seems to suggest.

Because he made a poor decision? I mean, I guess I see your point. But I think that banishing him from the game because of a dust up feels a bit extreme.

Howard has been an embarrassment to the sport for a long time. Hopefully this is finally the straw on the camel's back that has his blacklisted from the sport on all levels.
Now that's the difference between first and last place.

That’s really in Howard’s favor. He says something like I’ll remember that **** (not exact but sounds like it) and the other coach grabs him and yanks him and gets in his path. Howard was trying to walk by and say his piece but keep moving. Howard then says repeatedly don’t touch me and the other coach stays blocking his path.

Howard should not have reached. But this isn’t nearly as one sided as it’s being made.

Not sure but it looked like the coach that Howard hit, grabbed a hold of a Michigan player to Howard's left just prior and he took exception to it.

Still doesn't excuse it though.

I like how the first time Howard says "don't **** touch me" he's literally grabbing Gard by the chest with a fistful of his shirt. It is just constant escalation with that jackass. The entire situation is his fault, and this isn't the first time he's done something like this as a coach.

He should get into MMA or something if he wants to behave like this.

Yeah I'm trying to see where the other coach "grabs him and yanks him" and I don't see that at all. I do agree he stepped in front of him.
Howard did address the coach first, and then the other coach stepped in front of him to reply. He did get close to him. I don't see him "yanking him." I do see Howard waving his finger at the other coach as well. Both seem kind of belligerent, but it's also a loud and heated atmosphere.
Honestly I think if it was left at that confrontation, you would just chalk it up as both guys were heated, it was an intense conference rivalry game, and sports get emotional sometimes. We've all been there and I think most would be inclined to let it go on both sides.
But what escalated the situation to a dangerous and truly unsportsmanlike situation was Howard putting hands on the other guy in an unmistakeably hostile manner. That was a leap over the line of what's acceptable, so in that sense, it was pretty one sided.
Howard is the reason this situation got out of control, and he put his entire team in a bad situation.
That's just poor leadership. He might be a great Xs and Os guy for all I know, but head coach is at its core a leadership position.

It happened at like the two second mark of the video. Howard was walking past Gard and Gard grabbed Howard’s arm to stop him from walking by so that he could say whatever he was saying. And you could then hear Howard telling him repeatedly not to touch him. I honestly don’t see how people are missing that. It was about as clear as the slunch (slap/punch) that Howard threw at the assistant.

Here are some of their previous interactions. I think it is obvious Gard thought he could have a somewhat normal coach to coach conversation for a bit. Instead, Howard went ballistic and started a brawl.

I didn’t see it but it seems that Howard had starters pushing full court on D and the other coach, up big, called a timeout with a minute to go. If that’s the case I’m surprised at posters on here saying that’s a whatever. No. That BS. Game is over, if you haven’t coached up your bench on how to run out the clock that’s on you. You don’t call a timeout in that circumstance to teach them. Again, not an excuse for Howard’s later behavior. But that’s junk.

Why is that BS?

Why does Howard get to have his starters out the entire 40 and have them play a legit press and coaching them up to the buzzer. But Garb cant coach up his bench players? If Howard just wanted the game to run out, why is he playing his starters and having them play a hard press up until the last minute?

When you have your starters out and pressing hard. That is pretty much a sign that you are still coaching the game up and taking it serious. Dont get mad when the other coach does the exact same thing. If Michigan put their bench in or laid off the press defense, Garb isnt going to call the timeout. Its pretty simple.

I could see Howard having his starters out there in essentially garbage time as a punishment...especially if he was forcing them to press.
