The media is funny with their Celtics' love

It's crazy how much this team gets talked about for not doing a whole lot this year. Reading power rankings this week and some are putting them at 4th in the league. I get they acquired a couple of players at the deadline but come on 4th???Reading bleacher just now and they ranked them as having the best trio trio in the league and it's their top story. Marcus Smart really?
A week ago the Raps had a longer winning streak (8 games) yet I couldn't find a single story, even a side story on any website, yet the celtics' winning streak, which was shorter at the time, was a main story on most sites.
I get the whole big market thing and no this isn't me, a Raps fan being bitter about it as we're used to getting ignored by the media.
Is it me or are reporters obsessed with overhyping them because of their history or are there just a lot of reporters from the Boston area?

As a raptors fan, i feel like they have a very strong team...lots of size and athleticism at different positions which will allow them to match up decently against any team. I think they are second in defensive rating and second in opponents points..good luck scoring efficiently against that...

It’s based on advanced stats like net rating, defensive rating etc. Since Jan 1, the Celtics are blowing the rest of the league out the water in that regard.

Even 538 has Celtics as number 1 fav for a championship which is hilarious (even the biggest Celtics homers don’t believe that). I think it shows that the Celtics have turned a corner according to data.

Nba.com is heavy on advanced stats, and advanced stats show the Celtics to be a machine. I would personally have them around 8th or 9th, and still need to see how they play the rest of the regular season+ playoffs.

But they’re very good, their defense has been dominant since they’ve gotten healthy. Add in Tatum averaging around 27/8/5 on a 59% TS the last three months, that leads to a team that’s going to get a ton of attention. Of course there is some truth to them getting more attention just because they are the Celtics, but I don’t think it’s worth getting riled up over, it’s nothing over the top IMO.

They deserve it, the nba wouldnt be where it is now without the boston celtics. respect the history of the game.

Not getting riled up over it...it's just an observation! Not taking anything away from the team just find that successes are overhyped compared to smaller markets. I find this to be the way about Boston teams in general not just the Celtics!

There’s always going to be the bigger market getting more attention factor, just like I know that the Lakers, Knicks, Etc will get more attention than the Celtics.

The Patriots/Red Sox get over the top coverage because they’ve won the most titles in each of their leagues over the last 20 years. The Bruins? I have no clue if they get any attention, don’t care lol.

This is partly why I posted this thread! I get the recent winning streak but wasn't the ski falling a month ago and they were ready to fire the coach and trade one of their starts....now all of a sudden they're top 5? Come on man!

If it makes you feel any better, if the C's backslide even just a bit (2 or 3 game losing streak), the same media will be all over them as the most over-rated team in the league....need to split up the Jays.... Smart is a malcontent.
In other words, the media jumps on whatever gets them clicks. Right now the C's are playing great ball - Media likes them
C's start playing bad again - media hates them.

yes Boston is overrepresented in the media and so their teams are going to get a bit more publicity than normal. But even understanding that Boston has been good of late, so not sure the problem. Other than of course the real story here that you feel like the Raps are slighted.

But luckily here on RealGM where we are having this discussion, the Raps are the big market, they get way more attention than they warrant. So it restores a little balance to your universe and hopefully can ease the pain just slightly.

I mean imagine being as good as the Suns and Grizzlies and getting almost no national pub. Or the Jazz in recent years? This is hardly unique to your Raps.

You complaining about Raptors winning 8 in a row with little media fare is about half as valid as Suns winning 18 in a row and the main chat in the media was Warriors and Lakers.
