I don't think Bridges was the big miss that draft, it was SGA. He was a slasher with an offensive arsenal that showed a lot of potential as a 3 level scorer. Obviously, you'd rather have Bridges than Zhaire Smith, but they passed on SGA too.

I didn't consider Bridges 'the big miss', it was the fact that he was drafted here and traded for a guy who was a long shot to ever make it as a productive NBA player. A bunch of teams missed on SGA.

SGA allegedly had a promise and shut down workouts for anyone but LA.

Im trading him instantly if I can poach a good young asset, a relentless shooter like Bogdan Bogdanovic or to completely clear Harris' salary from the books.
You can find pesky defenders with actual offensive upside in every single draft.

Would Presti do Thybulle for Dort (they guy we should have drafted over Thybulle) straight up?

Much as I would like to have Bogie, I'd hope to use him to hitch onto Tobias and clear that albatross off the books.

Would you?
I mean... Dort loves to shoot, and probably will develop into an above average 3 point presence. I think his defense isn't anything noteworthy though and he's only 6'3. He's better than Matisse Roberson, but I still think we can aim higher.

I think Dort can be a three & d asset. He was a strong defender in the Pac-12. His defensive numbers in OKC have been bad, but so have Shai's. I don't doubt either player's ability to be defensive beasts when locked in.

It's kinda just Avery Bradley vs Andre Roberson.
Marcus Smart is the apex version of Lu Dort, but he's like Magic Johnson as a playmaker compared to what Dort (or Thybulle) give you.
Neither are players I'm all that excited about.

Now we do! Still don't see him being useful in any manner on offense.
With Harden, the 76ers can steal from the Nets and how they used Bruce Brown last year.Let Matisse be the roll-man in the pick-&-roll.
Let Niang, Maxey and Green compete for minutes as the floor spacers.

Re: Welcome Matisse Thybulle!
What makes Thybulle’s defense special is his defense actually matters on the 2 man game where the defender of the ball handler is usually just get wiped out, while Thybulle is the league best in defending his man from behind.
Its just that the Thybulle can be a complete liability on offense specially when I do think teams will zone us a lot more with Embiid and Harden on the floor.

Re: Welcome Matisse Thybulle!
Dort's scoring and three point willingness from college have translated to the NBA level.
He was a decent secondary passer and a strong defender, too. Those are hidden talents that haven't unveiled themselves at the NBA level yet. So he still have some upside to grow into. I think Dort is a legit piece.
In the very least, he's a powerhouse bomber from three that can drain assisted dragons from Embiid/Harden outlets.

Game 7, up by one point, one posession left in the game, Thybulle is defending the last play, does his usual thing and allows the playmaker to get between him and the basket for a reach around tip or rear block/disruption. Doesn't work. Game lost.
Will he ever learn to stay between his man and the basket to face up defend when it's needed?
Will he ever learn help defence and slide across when needed?
He has the tools, the talent, the instinct and timing, but lacks skill. He needs coaching.

Same situation.
Ball handler calls for screen, ball defender gets wiped out. Ball handler pulls up for a jumper.
I do think we have to put challenging the shot upfront and the Thybulle’s challenging from the rear to be the same. He is elite on deflection from the rear, and if he gambles he is then elite at recovering that makes his defense special.
The only way to fix this IMO is to have a secondary rim protector where your big can step up and challenge the ball handler, which Embiid cant because he would then leave the paint vulnerable with 3-4 guys guards to protect the rim.
What if his man was Jarett Allen and the ball hander just throws the lob, can Harden, Maxey or Tobias deflect the lob?
Im not saying Thybulle is perfect but his brand of defense is very effective in today’s basketball. And it is effective in almost but NOT ALL situation.

Fair enough. I just wish his default wasn't to let his man blow by relying on his 'from behind' defence in every situation.

I think his primary is to not getting left behind. But you really can’t stay on your man the entire time with how the league empowered the ball handler. You can’t stay close and deny him the screen because it will be a foul and it will also be so much easier to get you blown by with the drive without handcheck. If you sag off to deny dribble drive and to not to get fouled, you will be wiped off by the screen or the ball handler can just step back and pull up.
Its funny thinking about it that it reminds me of that time when pop experimented in defending Steph by opting to run him off the 3pt line and forcing him to drive, it didnt work for the Spurs that game. But it kind of worked for us the last time we faced the Warriors with how Thybulle was effective in defending Steph.
Thybulle’s defense is good. It’s not perfect. But again, the real problem is how bad he is on offense that makes him not playable on a lot of situations.

That Spurs v Curry defence;
Was that having a man stay behind threatening to block from behind, forcing him forward?
I've seen it.
What it says to me is, who ever replaces Tobias needs to have quick feet and defensive instincts to close out to the foul line. Leave Embiid to protect the paint/rim.

Problem is that Bruce Brown is actually a decent ball handler and decision maker. I wouldn't really trust Matisse to make consistently the right call in these tight 4-on-3 situations.
I do think he recognizes the opportunities to cut for dump-offs and lobs really well, but Matisse has to learn how to shoot, it is as simply as that.

So Grizz has to be the faves right now to come out from the west?
Top contenders in the west is PG lead.
GSW-Curry. Suns-CP3. Grizzlies-Ja.
Thybulle is at his best defending PGs. Thybulle can defend Pgs then be an elite transition player by leaking out.
