I'm a Cavaliers fan and voted Lowry. A lot of it boils down to fit. Lowry just fits better and would improve the Cavaliers overall. People who are saying the Cavaliers needed that secondary elite iso scorer are demonstrating a complete lack of basketball knowledge and basic understanding of the game. Ignoring the obvious fact that Lowry in of himself was a very capable scorer at the time (obviously not on the level of Irving though), his defense and ability to effectively run the team at much higher level than Irving ever could would've been extremely valuable to that Cavaliers team.
Another issue that I've been noticing in this thread is that the majority of people picking Irving clearly didn't watch the series and are blindly going off of stats. They see the legendary game 5 performance, the pretty overall stats, and the historic game 7 shot that gave Cleveland the lead and just assume there's no way Cleveland could have won that series without him, when in reality, Irving was a key reason as to why they were on the verge of losing in the first place.
But it's not like this is something I'm 100% confident in. Again, as I said before, for all we know Cleveland might have been swept in that series had Lowry played. Again, who knows? I've never been a fan of what-if scenarios and I never will be, because the game of basketball is complex and hard to predict. Games that are decided on a play by play basis through it's entirety are hard to critically analyze when understanding how different things would have been if the personal had been different. Every play involving said players changes, in ways we might not expect or understand.
