Missed the game due to a retirement party I was obligated to attend, but looks like Cade bounced back with a very nice game. A little surprised to see McGruder get 20 min over Diallo, especially considering he was coming off a huge game. Is this a case of trying to get better floor spacing with Hayes & Bagley on the floor?

Cade isn’t a bad defender per se. he does make dumb fouls that are already shots going in. I swear he probably has the most and one’s against him

He often gets lost off the ball on defense and in the fast break. He also gets blown by pretty easy so he'll make a terrible play at the ball. I feel like this happens consistently.

Cade makes rookie fouls which should shock no one being that he's a rookie. It should be expected that he'll get better in that regard rather than an "I don't know, I really hope he gets that cleaned up" situation as if it's realistic to think he won't.

Cade’s pretty good defensively when he’s dialed in, I think he’s just tired. It’s hard to run pick and roll almost every possession, maneuvering to get into the paint, etc. and then play 100% on defense.

Games like today is when Cade plays defense more with his hands (swiping at the ball) and not with his feet… and yeah those games aren’t that pretty defensively.

100%. Statistically Cade's best defense was early in the season.... perhaps when he had the balls in his hands on offense and he was super fresh as well. The grind of the season is going to be something for him to get used to. We do get really solid D from Cade from time to time and when the game is tight but he also doesn't really bring it on defense all night every night. Part of it too I think is for a while we were just getting beat bad a lot and missing so many shots and its hard to stay dialed in with all out effort on defense when your offense can't keep you in the game.

Statistically, our best guard defender this season is pretty clearly Diallo. Great rebounder, defender, steals, etc. Bargain for the contract he is on and what he produces for us. He just needs to get better at shooting.

If we had better shooters, we could start Diallo easier. Opens up him driving the lane either to finish or to drive/dish to an open shooter.

He certainly played well offensively.

The defensive issues can partially be attributed to the obviously wrong defensive matchup of Tatum, but only partially.

He'll figure it all out- it'll all come together.
