Kwame Brown blasts LeBron James for checking stat sheet during game: ‘Kobe Bryant would’ve never done that’

Former Los Angeles Lakers big man Kwame Brown had some choice words for superstar LeBron James and the Lakers’ struggles this season.

Brown called out James for checking the stat sheet while the Lakers were losing a game with Russell Westbrook sitting next to him.

“When I saw brother LeBron watching the stat sheet, that told me all I needed to know on why the Lakers are losing,” Brown said. “That told me all I needed to know why that team is not connected on defense.

“Because I played since little league, since high school, and all the high school coaches around the world can attest to this. They would never, high school, college or whatever, they would never allow a player to watch a stat sheet on a bench. Especially while they’re losing.

“What is that stat sheet teaching you? It’s not teaching you anything. I used to make sure – we lost a game, I wouldn’t let nobody on our bus touch a stat sheet. We lost. What the f— are we looking at the stats for?

“So for LeBron to be looking at the stat sheet on the bench, for all you young guys out there, I’m not taking away anything from the way he plays the basketball game. He’s still great. He’s still going to go down in the history as a great player. But that was the wrong message to send. That was horrible, and none of you players should ever emulate that.”

Brown wasn’t done with his harsh criticism of James, as he went on to compare him to the great Kobe Bryant.

“Kobe Bryant would’ve never done that,” Brown said.

While Brown may have disliked James’ actions, he may have gone a little far as to assuming why James was checking the stat sheet.

The Lakers wouldn’t be anywhere without James this season, as he’s put up 28.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game.

James has seen a lot of success in his time in the NBA, so Brown may want to dial back some of his criticism of James as the four-time champion tries to get the Lakers back on track.

What a comical take (levied against a 19 year vet, no less).

Jordan routinely checked the stat sheet while on the bench. He went so far as to have scorekeepers keep him updated on how much he needed to achieve 30 points (or secure a triple double).

What does that say?

No I'm joking obviously the majority of NBA fans don't really care about this. But fr:

1. Why would LeBron care about what an inferior player does? Forget Kobe lol.

2. The notion that Lebron flipped through multiple pages of his own stats and nothing else is silly.

3. The notion that you can't learn anything from looking at stats is silly.

But if Kwame Brown said "Kobe is better than Lebron because Kobe doesn't look at stats" that'd obviously just be a "different way of looking at things" and perfectly valid by definition because he's an NBA player and I'm not

If Kobe were still alive he would have probably shut this nonsense down himself, especially coming from **** Kwame. Comical.

Kwame is the guy who asked Kobe not to pass him the ball in tight games because if he gets fouled he wasn’t confident enough to make free throws.

Small ball is fundamentally against Vogel’s nature, I’d strongly suspect the guy driving it is Fizdale with tacit support from either the front office or Lebron.

Yeah I agree. I think the small ball has value, I especially like the Westbrook, Monk, Reaves, THT, LeBron version.. however, I feel they use it for too long. Should be restricting the periods it's used.

Anyway, I really dislike Fizdale and I do blame LeBron for this guy being around. I don't think Westbrook is Lebron's fault, I think he had opinions that got approved but Fizdale feels like he was hired by LeBron. Who else would hire this guy?

Not that it would have mattered, he would have fumbled the ball into the stands anyway. :noway:

I'd be surprised if it was Lebron keeping him around. He wanted Lue in the first place.

Joel Embiid got 27 ft attempts today.
LOL… I’m dead.

That’s about a weeks work for LeBron (if he is lucky).

Fizdale has been a massive downgrade from Jason Kidd. Massive!

I cannot wait for small ball to go away (and Fizdale along with it).

In his last 7 games, James has had 29 FTA on 154 FGA.

Watching LeBron get disrespected by the refs drive after drive while someone like Embiid gets 27 free throws in one freaking game makes me so mad. It’s ridiculous. Makes me not even want to watch the NBA anymore.

At this point he's gotta come into games firing jumpers and hope he catches fire. I dunno where the scoring is gonna come from otherwise.

I've said it before, but it's bizarre how much respect that players like Harden and Embiid who have won nothing get from refs, while guys with actual resumes like LeBron and Kawhi can't even get legitimate foul calls half the time. Particularly when Harden and Embiid go out of their way to trick the refs and make their jobs harder by flopping on every play. Not exactly the type of behavior you'd think they would want to reward.

This is the type of game that gets a coach fired. Lakers look listless in every way. 0 effort, 0 fight, 0 preparation. Team has clearly given up on Vogel.

And LeBron's definitely playing with some ailment now. His legs seem to give out any time he looks to put on a burst or jump.

I don't think there's a coach in the world who's fixing this mess when the Lakers' problems are their ownership and front office. The roster is atrocious and you just know Jeanie and Pelinka have more asinine moves planned this offseason. They're still letting Magic have input in all their decisions, FFS. Hell, with how dysfunctional the Lakers are, I wouldn't be surprised if Chaz the bartender was still involved in personnel moves.

I still can't believe LeBron signed over the rest of his prime to this farce.
