Re: is Haliburton the next superstar point guard?
It sure seems like it. I wouldn't say superstar, more like a tier 2 star like Dejounte Murray.
Haliburton's been playing great since being traded to the Pacers. He carved up the Celtics tonight, the #1 defense in the league since the start of the year. He even hit a couple of threes from the logo(!) so casually that he looked like Steph. And his court vision and awareness is really good. He's a perfect fit next to a coach like Carlisle.
He'll be an All-Star in a few years' time. Maybe even next year, who knows.

I don't think he's going to be a superstar since he hasn't really shown that one on one ability however he's going to be a fantastic player. He's really smart, takes efficient shots and can really run an offense.
It's not like Sabonis was a super star either.

Yeah but how much team control do you have over him compared to how long you could have with Haliburton?

I don't know if he's going to be a Superstar. Actually, nobody here knows. Hali is only 21 years young. He IS a gym rat, has the size and length, confidence, and IQ to become that.
I had Hali as the number one pick well before the draft took place. He doesn't have to score high 25 ppg to be a superstar, BUT he can score. He's a great facilitator/playmaker and defender.
Sac Kings traded away the wrong guard. Should have traded away D'aaron Fox. Putting Hali as shooting guard to protect D'aaron Fox was wrong move. Hali is not a natural SG. He's an all world PG who can control the tempo of the game RIGHT NOW. He has not mastered that aspect of his game yet, but he can do it ok currently. That's already a huge dangerous aspect of his talents. Not many players can do that.
Doesn't surprise me at his current performance with Indiana Pacers.

Both players are signed through 2023-24.

why does anyone care abt team control when playoffs is the priority? its not like hali is going to cost far less in his next deal.
sabonis is not leaving sac town unless he gets disrespected. your also ignoring trade value of fox and davion by all ining on hali and kings with hali was same garbage team. this is like saying morey should be fired bc harden is an expiring.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

Um because you could have one guy for the next 8 years compared to having to prove by next trade deadline why Sabonis should stay in a not so attractive market with bad ownership.

Well you might not be saying "so what" if you just traded away a guy you could of had for another 7 years for a possible year and half rental.
Maybe he likes it there and you max him and all is fine but theres still a risk.

Haliburton has Star written all over him. Kid is going to be a multi time all star. I don't know if Fox even makes it once.

i don't believe in superstars starting out slow.
superstars are superstars the second they step foot on court
unless we're talking about the watered down definition

Downplaying the difference between restricted and unrestricted FA is ridiculous.
As long as Indiana is willing to match any offer (In the highly unlikely event it even comes to that), Halliburton will be a FA in name only.
Sabonis has complete freedom to leave after 2 more seasons.

Not saying he is ever going to reach the level of any of these players but the following, just off the top of my head, were not stars as soon as they set foot on the court: Curry, Harden, Nowitzki, Nash, McGrady, Giannis, Leonard, George

Two years and a half.
They were also going nowhere with Fox/Hali core. Now the team looks much better, Sabonis is making players around the team better. Kings have all their picks going forward, an offseason to improve the roster, and a potential huge improvement of hiring an actual coach instead of Gentry.
Sabonis is not a guy chasing huge markets or anything, if the team is doing well, he's very likely to re-sign with Kings.
