Can't have Ish, KCP & Neto as our only guards, & we have the roster spot open.

I'll admit to being a Sato stan. I thought he was criminally misused by Brooks. I hope he can find his shot again.
He probably will not need to if kristaps porzingis is healthy. He will be throwing down a lot of dunks

Hey, the only opinion that matters is... Beal's, and he said wonderful things about Sato when he was here. Actually, if he hits open 3's, I think he'll be useful. And he's certainly a guy everyone can root for.

In the last 4 years, Sato has averaged 12 points, 7 assists and 5 boards per 36 with a 3:1 A/TO ratio, an ORtg of 118, a TS% of .583, and a 3P% of .374. And he did it while playing above average defense with the size to play within a switching scheme. That's a solid rotation player in this league, though not necessarily a starter due to his low usage rate.

I don't know what happened to Sato this year. Maybe he does suck now, but he absolutely has not sucked everywhere he has played. You don't play 1800 minutes a season if you suck.

I feel like Sato has been a non-factor in winning and for 10 mil a year he sucked. So for clarity Nate33...to me salary and contribution to winning matters. Sato is better than me but he sucks for 10 mil. Is that fair?

Yes. But he wasn't paid $10M the last time he was with the Wizards, and he isn't being paid $10M by us now.

Chicago arguably overpaid him on his last contract. I'd say his production was probably worth about $6M a year.

Fair...price for value was my Sato complaint-

Sato can probably be re-signed at the minimum this summer. Though, he could make more going back to Europe. But, playing with Porzingis at this level might be an attraction for him to re-sign.

I think it depends a great deal on how Sato plays in DC.

If Sato looks like he did in New Orleans, or even if he is a little better than in New Orleans, than you are right that he will only get a vet minimum type of deal. But if he resumes his Chicago/Washington level of play, he might get a bit more - in the $3-5M range.

I'm real curious to see if that New Orleans play was a fluke due to circumstances.

Guys like Sato are usually solid rotation players well into their 30s. Pretty bizarre that he’s been this bad for almost 500 minutes of playing time.

Used to be one of the better guards in the league that could give you 12-7-5-1 on 60% TS and play solid defense. One of the most unselfish point guards in the game, always played with great effort.

The guy we had, at 3 million per year, was probably one of the best values in the entire league.

Favorite Sato memory is still him totally locking down Westbrook in a primetime nationally televised game.

He wasn't that bad last year either like I have no idea what happened to him.

My main issue with Sato was his lack of assertiveness. He can be a very solid and useful
player but he's not an alpha dog, that's for sure. I like the signing.

Nice pickup! Solid vet still only 30, former Wizard who played well with Beal, and has also played with Porzingis. Add depth & versatility to the backcourt.

Probably an indication we won't see any Ayayi anytime soon though. :-?

It’s a bit of a stereotype but many European players are kind of passive. They don’t necessarily have “that dog” them. They may lack assertiveness by nature and I think it’s a cultural bowing down to the black Americans in the NBA. I do not necessarily think it is less athleticism although that is a factor.

I know you guys are laughing at me but if <<John Wesley>>were also on the wizards; his distinction of being a guy that likes to dunk and to play with passion and fire I THINK might rub off on Tomas.

If it turns out Porzingis suits up with Tomas I expect to see a bit of extra “assertiveness” this season.

Imagine Sato with Brodie's self confidence. Oh gawd, that could actually be scary
in the old fashion sense of the word.

Can we also give him a jump shot... and Westbrook's athleticism from his 20's?

Now imagine Sato with Steph Curry's jump shot, Iverson's handles, Vince Carter's athleticism, Tom Brady's looks, and Michael Ruffin's engineering degree.
