Dinwiddie has been a nice surprise

Post#1 » by Pinkyring » Mon Feb 28, 2022 2:01 pm

As a mavs fan I'll admit I've never liked dinwiddie i felt he was a high usage chucker who looked good on paper if u ignore percentage, that said he's played well tho early 14 and 3 on 63/46 splits is fantastic. If he can settle in at 17 and 5 on 45/35 splits the trade will be well worth it.

The trade surely looked bad for the mavs. That said there Is a difference between losing a trade on paper and losing in terms of the actual outcome of the trade.

Early signs are encouraging.

Dinwiddie has been great in that third ballhandler role and has found a nice groove since the all star break. His size and wingspan also allows him to be very switchable on defense even if he's not a stopper. Pleasantly surprised so far. He was the catalyst for the comeback win last night.

Always liked Dinwiddie and the way he built himself up from almost being out of the league. Hopefully he continues to work out for the Mavericks. Figured he would look better playing off of Luka rather than Beal and that seems to be the case.

I didn't think the trade was as bad as it looked, especially since Porzingis is hit or miss to even play 50% of the time. Really don't like the Bertans contract, but he's even started hitting some shots in his last couple games.

Dinwiddie has looked better and better in every game with Dallas so far. Reminds me a lot of Jason Terry

That's awesome but I fear the Mavs FO will see this and dismiss paying Brunson over the summer

I said this many times at that trade time, Mavs fans should definitely hold out hope that both guys look a lot better in DAL than they did in WAS. Both guys have a track record of being really solid role players and vibes were clearly bad in WAS, plus they lacked a system and clear hierarchy etc that role players thrive in.

Not saying Dinwiddie and Bertans will be slick af all year, just that they could easily both be really useful and the trade will look like a modest success.

Maybe Beal did bully him after all...

The guy has literally no conscience when it comes to shooting. When the ball touches his hands he puts them up, its wild.

That said he's been making enough of them to keep defenses honest and he's shown a bit more than I expected on defense (where i expected him to be pretty much the worst defensive player in the league), but he's been trying on that end and has gotten a few steals and blocks just being active.

Brunson post-ASB has been a dud (two game sample size but still) so it will be interesting how he meshes with Dinwiddie. He hasn't looked like a $20M+ a year player since Dinwiddie got here.

Shooting about 40% from 3 in Dallas, which is pretty solid. He literally can’t do anything else though, so it’s a mixed bag.

If he could at least rebound, he’d probably start. 6’10 and < 3 rebounds per game isn’t going to get him there though

This was always a great trade for Dallas. Dinwiddie is high IQ, and Bertans brings what they wanted from KP.. a tall guy who can make shots in theory.. Brunson and Dinwiddie will began to mesh at some point as they both think the game well even though they play similarly.

I thought Dinwiddle could be Brunson insurance with that trade but I think I would rather have Brunson over Dinwiddle. Just matters what Brunson pulls down in FA

I'm not afraid the Mavs will trick themselves into the fool's gold that is Spencer Dinwiddie. But what I am afraid of is Jalen will see an ever diminishing role for himself and go sign with Detroit or whomever this off-season. And Dallas can't afford to have good players just leave.

Bertans has also been an instant reclamation. Not worth his pay but still could provide them a nice boost of shooting they've needed.

His game kind of reminds me of Nick Van Exel.

He's played 3 games, 2 were great, one was horrible, Bertans requires a defender glued to him, even when shooting badly and he brings great spacing, and he has maybe the quickist AND highest release in the league, his horrible game was in NO, where they attacked him on defense and his shot was off.
Kidd isn't playing enough IMO.

The immediate reaction was shock because Porzingis is the bigger name and Bertans was having a terrible season but like you said it's much different on the court.

We have to see what happens in the playoffs because the Mavs don't really have a center but they desperately needed another ball handler. If Bertans can regain his shot i think he'll be a good fit as well because you can never have too many shooters around Luka.
