Dominique Wilkins
Was my fav player before the Grizz came to Memphis in 2001.
Anthony Edwards style reminds me alot of Niq
Made a quick 5-minute video.
Is he top 75 or is he top 50?

Re: Dominique Wilkins
he should have been top 50 back in the day, but now that guys like Lebron, Dirk, Duncan, Kobe and others have been added , Nique is probably top 60

Re: Dominique Wilkins
Not top 50 for me, probably around the 75 mark. Great player and fun to watch but I don't think people gave enough credit to Mookie Blaylock on those Hawks teams

Re: Dominique Wilkins
I never understood why a contender didn't take a chance on him later in his career. Would've thought a team like the Knicks or Jazz could have potentially used his scoring and athleticism.

He was already 35 years old when he left the hawks and wasnt the same player after rupturing his
achilles tendon.

Valid counterpoint lol
I remember reaching the conclusion "Blaylock didn't get enough credit" but thought there was more overlap between him and Nique

Definitely wasn't the same, but he could still score and was surprisingly still athletic.

Was my favorite player growing up. Loved everything about him. If Jordon hadn't been so dominant and larger-than-life I reckon 'nique would have been far, far more popular.

Nique wasn't the best basketball player, but a heck of a show on the court.

He was the perfect tank commander and ball hog the Spurs needed at the time.

love when people with awful takes they say with such certainty are really just pulling stuff out of nowhere. This is the great example of this!

Like the poster who claimed Wiseman had similar/better college numbers than Oden despite only playing 3 games

Meanwhile claiming other people don't know what they're talking about...

Any top players who played together in 1994 are immortalized as having played together for an entire era. That's the season used for the arcade/SNES all-time classic game: NBA Jam Tournament edition.
So as far as I'm concerned, Nique/Kevin Willis/Mookie played together for the entire 90s, and probably played in multiple finals against the Chris Webber/Latrell Sprewell/Chris Mullin on the Golden State Warriors. (Also Michael Jordan never existed).

Well I'm sure you were happy when Dominique was picked #1 overall in the NBA 75 draft!
Love the Ant comparison. I think that's bang on. Both are athletic outliers with big confidence, both needed to figure out how to think the game. very similar strengths and weaknesses. Nique was listed at 6'8" so he's obviously bigger and playing a different position.

Mookie was CRAZY underrated then and even more so now. He's almost completely forgotten. A rare elite non big man defender, elite passer, and all around quality guard.
I didnt think they played that long together but don't really care. Mookie needs more love lol.

Re: Dominique Wilkins
My fellow Hawks fans are gonna kill me but he’s criminally overrated. I won’t speak on the 75 list outside of calling it nonsense.
Nothing really outstanding about his profile except offensive rebounding. A career .478 eFG and 1:1 assist to turnover ratio for a guy who led the league in usage twice is far from ideal. Not one conference finals appearance, never made All Defense. The bulk of his defensive profile was gambling for steals so he could break away and a few highlight blocks into the 7th row. His on ball and team defense always lacked. Led the league in missed shots 5 times yikes. Comparing his IQ to say Larry Bird’s is comedy.
I idolized the guy as a kid, realize as an adult he was mostly for entertainment. Listening to him as a “color analyst” has almost driven me insane; no depth to his basketball IQ whatsoever. I’ve literally heard him call 1,000 opponents shots “terrible/ awful/ horrible.” How many of the Hawks’ shots has he made that distinction for? 0. His unprofessionalism knows no bounds, so much so that Danny Ferry rightfully pleaded he be better trained at his job.
I can only dream to look as young as he does at 62 though. Mans got no wrinkles and his original hairline.

There's no real reason for him to be remembered now other than by old Hawk fans and true fans of the game. You basically had to watch him play to understand the impact he made, but it was instant, and he was a piece Atlanta had desperately needed.dhsilv2 wrote:GeorgeMarcus wrote:Not top 50 for me, probably around the 75 mark. Well fans of the game...wish he was more talked about. He's a guy imo who needs to be in the top 100 discussion, maybe he isn't, but still he's in that discussion.
