Early signs are encouraging.

It looked bad if you still consider Porzingis a positive asset. I think the Mavs being willing to salary dump him for two guys who aren't exactly positive assets themselves was a clear sign that NBA teams don't view him that way.

Yep I agree, It was probably more surprise related to the name than actual value unbalance in hindsight

Shout out to Spencer Dinwiddie

Post#42 » by dygaction » Wed Mar 2, 2022 6:06 am

He appears to buy in Kidd's system, taking good care of the ball, playing reasonable defense, setting teammates for easy baskets, and shooting the light out.
In the 5 games for Mavs, he is averaging 14p/2.6r/4.4a with 60% 2p/44% 3p and only 1to per game. I even feel more comfortable sometimes to have the ball in his hand than in Luka's. For people who watched him during his Nets days, is he going to be the #2 guy Mavs are looking for?

He's always been good. It says more about the Wizards that for some reason they rejected him

Already seems like a better fit than Porzingis ever did

Wizards have a bad/losing culture and like it that way. They don't want anyone stepping up and changing status quo. I'm happy for Dinwiddie and the Mavs, should help take pressure off Luka.

Agreed. He did not take any time to fit in, so smooth. What I did not expect is that he seems to have really good leadership on the court. You don't have to worry about lead vanish immediately and Luka was able to finish strong in the 4th in the last two games.

No he’s perfect where he’s at as the 6th man. He’s leading the bench scoring. Also when Luka gets tired or teams are doubling and tripling him Dinwiddie is able to create and get others open shots while the defense is focused on Luka.

The Mavs will resign Brunson and Dinwiddie will continue to lead the second unit. When teams ask Dinwiddie to do too much that’s when we start to see the guy that was in Washington.

Anyway, I think he is more a natural PG than Brunson and can be an insurance to avoid way overpay this summer. Luka/Brunson/Dinwiddie/Bullock backcourt feels good.

Wizards were just a bad fit for him.

He was great in Brooklyn. Will be good w/ Luka too.

That's where I am undecided. Did he have so many open looks or were the 3s more forced? He can have so many wide open 3s in Mavs.

Dinwiddie has been better and has fit in better in these 4 games than KP did last n the 3 years he was in Dallas.

I liked the move for Dallas and continue to like the move, but 14 ppg on what looks like unsustainable shooting doesn't stirke me as Dallas hitting the lottery.
I think he will be a solid player for them moving forward and they won't regret making the move they did, but I also think they are still in largely the same position they were in before and that's that they are another legit wing player or star center from contending and it's not clear how they get that player.

Ya pretty much came to say the exact same thing.

Liked the move, but it wasn't some great trade. Are Mavs fans still going to be over the moon about him when he is shooting 40% from the field and 30% from 3, instead of 60% from the field and 40+% from 3. That is going to be a drastic difference and one that is going to happen. He's 28 years old and in his 8th season, we know who he is as a player.

Again with that said, I like the move for them. He is a really good 6th man, but that is what he is, a 6th man and not an elite one at that either. But ya having a really good 6th man is something this team needed, especially with the moving of Brunson into the starting lineup.

And ya the biggest question mark with Dallas is still the same it has been since it was clear the KP thing wasn't working out. Who is going to be that 2nd star and how are they going to get him. Because they need that legit 2nd star to bump themselves into that next tier of teams.

I mean I'm sure KP had some good 4 game stretches as well taken out of context of a larger sample

Yup I mean just earlier this season here is a 7 game stretch by KP

He's better than Porzingis just for the fact that he actually plays. Porzingis never plays

Lol. People are not bothering to look at the game logs, they just check his averages. They use more time to write their reply than actually looking into what he is doing. He was chill the first two games, getting into it, learning the offense. He then had 20 points, 24 points, and today with 14 points and 9 assists. He plays really well with Luka and I have never seen Luka trust someone this much. He is the second-best player on the team without a doubt.

Please check all his shots here (makes and misses)

You do realize Porzingis actually missed less games to injury over the last 3 seasons than Dinwiddie who has quite the injury history himself? I'm not even sure if KP is actually even still hurt or if the Wizards are just tanking right now, the latter seems more likely

In 8 league years Dinwiddie's VoRP is a whopping 5.4 and he has been barely above average with a career BPM of 0.2.

Not sure in what world numbers like that qualify a player as good, but I suppose there is a chance that he'll keep outperforming his career eFG of .477 by continuing to convert at a .681 clip.

That would be $18 million per season well spent.
