I think he said a few things in the media though about not wanting to be here in the offseason. He was also under contract here. He might've been a good teammate while he was here but he ultimately chose to bail on those same teammates in order to stay in Miami.

Kinda this. If he had decided to stay a positive locker room presence and mentor to the young kids, even if he wasn't playing, he would have been welcomed back to cheers.

Personally, if having him stay in Miami made sense for the team, then I'm glad that they made that call. But Toronto fans don't like it when they feel that somebody quit on the team. The boos, from a fan perspective, are understandable.

He left because of a family situation, and also because the team wasn't intending to play him anymore. I don't see anything to get bothered about. The team did just fine without him, so it was the right call for all involved.

No one was talking about Flynn's playing time when they were winning like 8 in a row. Anyway, good on Malachi for staying poised. He hit some big shots last night when we needed them. It's pretty obvious that Fred is unable to play basketball right now, and by taking him out the team has been much more competitive.

Siakam was out though to begin the season - the wing position was kinda out of whack until Siakam was back into game shape. OG then got hurt in November and December too. FVV and GTJ never got hurt.

Good point. Flynn played in 6 games where one of FVV/GTJ were out in the first ~50 games. He averaged 6/2/2 on 33/29/80 shooting splits in 18 MPG and he was a cumulative -25 in those games where we were outscored by a total of 24 points.

Obviously it's not a huge sample size, but Flynn generally had opportunities whenever FVV/GTJ were out. He just wasn't good in any of those instances until the past month.

Flynn has straight sucked for most of the season and has gotten burn. Glad he's performed the last 2 games and Flynn playing well can only be an asset to us.

BTW in a span of 12 months, Flynn lived in San Diego then Tampa Bay then up north(and a rude winter on top of COVID restrictions). It must take some serious adaptation.

Even though this should have been an easy win, the Raptors did what they had to do and you know the Nets had the last game on their mind.

Scottie Barnes looks like a 5 year vet out there. At times you watch him on the court and he truly plays like he's the leader of the team with how calm and fundamental he is with everything he does. The presence he has as a 19 year is ridiculous. It reminds you of all the great rookies who went on to become superstars, and he does it all with his basketball IQ. I'm excited to see what the Raptors have him work on this offseason.

Malachi Flynn - I have been a fan of him since last season. This guy has a skillset that no one on this team possesses. If he ever learns how to consistently put it together he can be a very good backup. It looks like confidence in his shot makes the world of difference for his entire game. Hopefully the Raptors encourage him to start attacking in the midrange because that's where he really excels. And man is it good to have someone who can run the pick and roll.

GTJ - it was good to see him try a few things other than his typical patented one dribble step back. He showed some passing and an ability to get into the paint, and shows that he can develop a semblance of a midrange game. He still has some room to develop other moves.

Basketball_Jones wrote:Not a good game for Banton, but I still like his natural feel for the game and point guard instincts. Ultimately, he has to work harder if he wants to stick around. Just like Fred/Siakam/Powell and all the other projects before him that came up in the system. Otherwise you end up like Terence Davis or McCaw.

You mean three time NBA champion Patrick Andrew McCaw? Put some respect on his name and bend the knee!

I love that they are teaching him how important all the non shooting parts of the game are and he is getting better at all of them.

That’s how you build a player. Wish we developed Derozan that way but he had to go to the Spurs to learn the intangibles. Glad we have a different development track now. If we can help Fred, Pascal, OG and Norm get to where they got imagine what we can do with Scottie who is way more naturally talented than those guys. So excited we got him.

This is also why Flynn hasn't been getting as much action this season. You can tell he has a lot of natural skills, skills that you see in some of the better players. But the Raptors are probably focusing more on him doing the little things right on the court. This team knows how to develop players.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

I hope he took that saved money, and included it as a tip for the bariste. They probably need that money more than the next customer in line.

Trent was a beast on D in this game. Curry had maybe a handful of good looks.

It’s really strange and mildly infuriating how difficult it is to hand my money over to merchants/NBA for jerseys I want.

I sorta understand that it’ll be difficult to get previous season’s Ja Morant jersey in light blue, but why the heck is it impossible to get DeMar’s Bulls City Edition jersey, and why won’t they make more Scottie City Editions?

Don’t get me started on the Kobe mamba jersey.

Yeah, I just bought the authentic black jersey with the Jordan diamond logo instead of the Nike logo. But I wanted the black and gold joints. lol hopefully they restock soon.

johanliebert wrote:I’d have to guess many of you read stat sheets instead of watching games cause how can anyone say Flynn got them into half court sets. I saw possessions where pascal of all people had to direct traffic and get Flynn to hurry up. He can drive and kick like most guards but his poor first step is an issue. Playing the nets with the roster they trotted out masks what Flynn really is and that’s a 3rd string point guard. FO has to address the backcourt they need some athleticism there.

This is way over critical. Flynn has played well the past few games. He is producing and has low turnovers. He is is an excellent PnR pg. The problem is, Raps don’t run enough PnR with him to excel.

They should consider PnR offence with the second unit with Precious and Boucher as the screener for Flynn to see what he can do. Limited shooting from the other spots will make it a tough slog I suspect. But worth exploring.

With FVV out, and GTJ no longer as unconscious from deep, we are lacking 3pt shooting pretty bad it feels, I wonder if we won't see more teams deploy zone against us if FVV is out going forward (Minny, and BK x2 of late)

Well. you know the old saying, if you're not mortally wounded you can still play 48 minutes!
