Mask mandate is ending in California tomorrow. Cali has been in masks since march 2020 and has been the most restrictive state in the country since the pandemic.

Thats all you need to know to realize we are exiting this pandemic.

That would be great, but I'm afraid you're jumping to a conclusion here. So many decisions regarding Covid are made for political reasons rather than medical. If the hospitalization rate drops low enough, the politicians can justify dropping the mandate, but I still wouldn't want to be one of those people with a breakthrough infection in the hospital.

The whole thing was compliance training. Ending the mask mandates? Welcome to our club.

https://sports.yahoo.com/nba-commissioner-adam-silver-criticism-010036068.html

I seen this the other day, was waiting to see if anyone else mentioned it. I'm not going to touch on much of the article, just put what commissioner Silver said.

"This law in New York, the oddity of it to me is that it only applies to home players. I mean, I think if ultimately that rule is about protecting people who are in the arena, it just doesn’t quite make sense to me that an away player who’s unvaccinated can play in Barclays but the home player can’t. So, to me, that’s a reason they should take a look at that ordinance".

That's Silver playing the PR game. He knows why it only applies to NY-based players--it's impractical if not impossible to enforce if not illegal.

Weird that he's backing Kyrie so strongly though. He could just exempt the Nets from the NBA policy to follow local ordinances and just let them pay the fines.

The city might not be too happy about that. The actual executive order reads, "...such person or entity shall be subject to a fine, penalty and forfeiture of not less than $5,000." There is no upper limit-- a few million dollars per violation sounds like a good way to fund the city budget.

Going out of your way to sabotage a local team's playoff aspirations is a good way to lose your next election.

I'm sure New Yorkers want to make an exception for a millionaire basketball player. If Barclays Center isn't going to follow NYC rules, they would probably have to include the crowd, other events, etc. Sounds messy.

I'm saying NYC would have to make an exception to fine them more than the minimum.

I don't expect the Nets to do this until it actually affects their revenue (i.e. the playoffs), though.

Don't even know why they are still bothering with this...Nobody would even blink an eye if they scraped all protocols. Everybody's focus is on the war in Ukraine and everybody just saw the president parading with no mask on at the SOTU. What are they waiting for?

What does that have to do with the NBA trying to keep Covid under control? You think the virus disappeared because of a war in Europe? NBA protocols have worked amazingly well, it would be ridiculous to end them now.

Amazingly well? In what world? The reason there are almost zero positive cases left is because everybody already tested positive. If you call that successful, you must not be familiar with a lot of success.

"Everybody" tested positive? Less than half the league tested positive, plus you can recover and test positive again. Perhaps you're not familiar with how numbers work. There were about 100 in protocols in December, down to almost none by the end of February. Because of the protocols.
