Its between Mobley and Cade with Cade a little bit ahead now. Barnes has lost h2h to both Mobley and Cade so he should not be in the picture.

Instead of picking your 3 faves, let's see who we think is standing atop and will win Rookie of the Year. I do apologize if your guy was left out of the poll. There can only be 10 options and there are more good rooks than that.
Anyway, as with the previous threads, let's keep our discussion polite and reasonable please. Enjoy!

why would you put Green, Suggs and Duarte as separate choices? It does not make sense. They should be in Others group.

Evan for now but Cade is closing the gap. Scottie is on the outside looking in but still has a shot due to team play and him looking healthier right now. The magic have been deliberately reducing Franz role so I don't think he has a chance. Giddy isn't playing and doesn't have a chance either IMO.
All that said, the guys above, and a few others have shown a great amount of potential. What a great rookie class.

You really think Green, Suggs and Duarte have done enough for rookie of the year award?

3 quarters of the season is already finished and Green, Suggs and Duarte have no chance to win rookie of the year award. So no point in having them as separate choices like they have a chance; they dont.
Dont argue for the sake of argue. Try to be practical.

Because there's room for 10 options and not everyone has the same opinion on everything and I thought listing as many choices as possible would generate interest and lead to fewer complaints. My bad, apparently. As long as the player you want to vote for is an option I don't really get dictating who others have to vote for.

Oh & shock horror, he’s a Raptors fan ....
Not exactly lol. Mobley is clearly the favourite right now, I was just mentioning that there's a realistic scenario that changes this perception.
I thought the 11/1 odds in Vegas was a great bet since there's a good chance the Cavs could falter while Barnes continues to strong play down the stretch.

Since this is the final thread for ROY so I was expecting the poll to be realistic. Anyway relax, serenity now

Depends on how Mobley is performing in those games. Right now Cade is easily outplaying Mobley and has to be in serious contention of ROY. If things stays the same (Cade > Mobley) then Cade will win it. But if Mobley improve his current game to match Cade's current game or Cade's game falter then Mobley will win it as he has been performing from the start.

Then why is he such a favourite to win ROY when some others have identical stats as him? The whole narrative about Mobley has been how his defensive impact has led to the Cavs success.
If the Cavs have a losing record, everything surrounding Mobley changes where people would be complaining that he's not assertive enough offensively to help the Cavs.
No one cares about what Cleveland's record is when discussing Mobley's defense. We only base it on what we see from him on the floor, and on the floor he is in fact playing excellent defense. But that was never the main reason for Cleveland's success this season. It's been a contributing factor, sure, but not the main reason. Garland and Allen are. Most people who rave that Mobley is the ROY favorite know this.
Understood as that's where things stand right now. My point was that the narrative could change if the Cavs continue to stumble and Mobley is not impactful enough offensively to help the Cavs through it.
I'm looking at Barnes who has near identical stats as him and could play a greater role to help his team finish strong. This narrative is a stronger possibility than the current 11/1 odds suggest. That's all my point really was.
when was Mobley impactful enough offensively? His offensive EPM has been bad for a long long time. Its his defense which has been saving him in ROY race or else he will not be in top 3

My point there was that people would start focusing on his lack of impact offensively if his defense isn't helping the Cavs win games on that end.
Anyone who thinks the Cavs turn around record wise isn't a huge factor why Mobley has the ROY race locked up is fooling themselves. If it weren't for the record, Mobley would still be #1 but the race would be a lot closer.

I don’t think the ROTY award is measured like the MVP is in terms of the “Best player on one of the best teams” that usually applies to the MVP reward.
But speaking of records, both the Cavs and Raptors would actually benefit from slipping into Play-in so they can retain their 1st Round Pick (Lottery) and still have a chance to make the playoffs. That’s just my opinion anyway since both teams traded lottery protected 1st’s at the deadline.

Re: ROY Race If Cavs Continue To Falter
I think, with the top 5 rookies (Cade, Barnes, Mobley, Giddey, Wagner) there isn't hugely meaningful statistical separation. I think Mobley will win because he's made the best overall impression on voters. Mobley's defense, the Cavs surprise success (even if they fall into the play-in) already have influenced voters to be most excited about Mobley.
- Barnes has been right there the whole time, and is a fairly deserving candidate. He stands out a little bit less on his own team. You can make a case that Barnes is the 3rd best Raptor, but you could make an argument he's the 5th best Raptor too. Mobley has been the clearcut 3rd best player at worst on the Cavs. It's close, but I think voters are just a little bit more excited about Mobley's impact.
- Cade has been awesome for a while now, but I don't think voters are really noticing. He was shooting the ball so bad for so long, and only recently cracked 40%FG on the season (still hasn't cracked 50% true shooting which is pretty yucky, like worse than Russ yucky). He's an inefficient turnover machine on a bad team where those problems are highlighted. He's been improving every day but he dug himself a hole early and I don't think he's caught up.
- Giddey has been the best rookie for a little while now. But he's glaring weaknesses as a scorer have people less excited in the big picture. Some people are still unsure that Giddey is a viable player in the long term and aren't going to want to give ROY in case it ends up looking like MCW.
- Then there's steady Franz. He's just been a solid scorer all year long and the defense is good too. I think he's the vanilla pick here. Deserves some votes but wont get quite as many as Barnes or Mobley.

Lol what... A couple regular season meetings don't decide who wins the ROTY award. If that's the case, Cade has the award on lock considering he's 7-3 against the top rookies this year.
But if you wanna look at the numbers..
Cade and Barnes had identical stats in the 1st and 3rd meetings. Cade won the 2nd meeting.
Barnes and Mobley had pretty similar numbers in their only head to head this season and you can easily make the case Barnes was better. In a 1 point win for the Cavs, Mobley was a team/game worse -7 and Barnes was a team best +5.
