Magic the player ~ of all point guards he’s the GOAT. Magic the GM ~ of all players who turned GMs and coaches, he’s the WOAT. Loved Magic the player but I’d rather see Mr Logo and Son come back before Magic talks Jeannie into signing John Wall and playmaker Lance. Magic is the perfect PR magnet for attracting players, but I wouldn’t give him any roster building responsibilities again. When Jeannie said she’s still in contact with Magic on roster decisions it would explain signing Westbrook to play next to LBJ.

Just simply no. Magic Johnson was a horrible GM. Are you a sucker for punishment? :P

Magic is great at hustling for himself... but is not a worker to build up an organization. He would not show up to the office... let players go without getting any value back... then tried passing the blame to Rob Pelinka... and quit like a drama queen. Even Lebron took issue with the way Magic quit.

What did we get back for those guys?

We finally gave up DeAndre. Another catastrophic mistake by this front office

It would be funnier if the Lakers drafts Bronny and don't sign LeBron.

The ONLY reason to draft Bronny is to sign LeBron... Bronny isn't really NBA material.

I'm just saying this to piss Lebron and to show him that Lakers is still the boss. :D

The only way I could look past Magic's first stint as GM and be okay with bringing him back... is if he uses his time now to tamper with and bring Luka Doncic to the Lakers, either this summer or the next.

He can do it safely too, since he isn't an executive working in an official capacity. :P

Pelinka, LeBron and AD have all said LeBron and AD went and sold the idea of Westbrook to Rob... I don't think you can put that one on Magic.

And that's my point about Magic. AD and Bron tell somethin to Pelinka, pelinka says Yes Man Lets Do It! A Superstar tells that to Magic and he says heck No! Westbrook ain't sh**!!

I mean, I love Magic, but he does get some pretty wacky ideas about players sometimes, and he's always going to root for the aging vet over the new up and comer... That said, he bleeds purple and gold more than anyone I can think of... Would not tolerate a losing season, and would have no problem telling Klutch to pound sand, because he's basically untouchable as a sports icon...

He probably wouldn't be as hands-on as we'd want, but he's also probably be delegating a lot of the details to those who knew them better anyway.

The flip side is that I hear a lot of people bashing Magic for 'going behind Pelinka's back'... Do we really think that's how that worked?
I mean you have an absolute cut throat (by everyone's measure) former agent on one side, and Magic on the other... Who was more likely the one stabbing the other in the back?
I mean does anyone honestly believe anything Rob says? I find him fake and slimy... All his weird, flowery, statements he seems to work on to specifically portray him as this humble family man, all come across weird and 'off'...
I thought he was a really weird choice when we hired him in the first place... He hasn't screwed too many things up in the short time he's been here until the last 2 seasons, and I understand that was mostly the Klutch Krew... But still... Are we really saying we trust him more than Magic, who brought us LeBron in the first place?

That said, there has got to be a better option out there than either of them... Just not any Klutch rejects please...

Hell, give that other Buss kid a chance... The one who's been nailing the draft picks for the last few years...

Isn't there enough drama here already? Magic is a great Laker player but he's really not a guy who's going to go into the office every day and put in 12 hours a day for the Lakers. He's got a lot of other stuff going on and loves to be seen and heard too much to be a GM or POBO. He's best as an orbiting PR piece IMHO... and better suited for it too.

I think everyone is targeting too low in the organization. I think we need new ownership. Only a new owner can do what needs to be done. Separate from LeBron and trade Davis. New owner.... new era.

Side note: I loved DFS when he played for the Gators in college. I always thought he’d be a great role player and I wanted the Lakers to find a way to get him. Sad it couldn’t happen.

How can Lakers KEEP Malik Monk next season Is the only way if we let go of Westbrook?

Lakers need to really do all they can to keep MONK IMO

I like Monk, but he's not a priority right now... He's essentially a less arrogant Dennis Schroder... Or a smaller Kuzma with worse man defense...

And, he's going to get stupid offers in free agency... He's gone.

We need to focus on adding a legit young star and then figuring out the right pieces to fill in around them and LeBron and AD after that.

I also want that as our next star after these 3 clowns needs to be under 30 period - no excuses this time around

But keeping Monk could be a good option and be used as a potential 3rd star OR maybe 2nd star if he learns Defense - he still young and worthy of it.

Kilroy wrote:But players love Magic... Star players especially... As does the media to a large extent... It's a definite catch-22... But I think I feel better with Magic advising us then off helping some other team... Like West...
Just as long as we're not letting him run it all... Although our drafting in his tenure was solid... And I think a lot of people would have agreed with firing Luke a little sooner... So IDK...
I thought our team the first season under Rob was great... It's been worse each year after... And some of the decisions just seem like they didn't have any thought behind them...
So... IDK...
The Lakers leaked like a sieve under Magic though... That had to stop... But was it Magic leaking it, or disgruntled Rob...

Generally agree that Magic helps as recruiting add-on and not decision maker, but tbh, the Lakers out of all teams will see the least impact from a legend recruiter. There's already a bunch of other stuff like city / history that will attract players in terms of non-sporting factors.
